[QUOTE="SamiRDuran"] what???? gran turismo 3 sold 15m and gran turnismo 4 sold 9.5m. more than all halos and their hype machine combined...Salt_The_Fries
Don't you mean SHIPPED? And by the way, prove it.
Here is the link to prove that Halo series sold more than GT 3 and 4, and in before you say that it's Wiki and not relevant, all figures for Gran Turismo games are backed up by sources:

Ill agree 3.5-4million is probably about right for GT4 in the US and Japan. But then your missing out on its big territory: EUROPE.
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=5095
Thats 3.1million on day 1 in europe...
http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=887
Lists it as 9.53m total...

so...more waiting then?Sorry to break it to you early, but you cannot escape from the A-Bomb that is Gran Turismo 5. It's going to be the "Starcraft 2" for the consoles. People will sell their houses for this game. My advice to people who own the 360 only (The Wii will not get affected as much), it's time to face it. When Gran Turismo 5 comes out, Microsoft will just give up. They are smart people. They know they cannot compete with a game as huge as Gran Turismo 5. Turn 10 is going to shut down the day it comes out and go work for Polyphony Digital. The end is coming, and it starts, next Christmas.

Umm..When Halo 3 came out PS3 sold more than the 360 did. Interesting huh?
Exactly the point. If Halo 3 (the game that thousands of people stood out in line for) couldn't end the PS3 or Wii, then Gran Turismo 5 surely can't do the same against the 360 or Wii.Halo 3 has more fans than the GT series...

Yup, you're right. Surprisingly, after a bit of googling, I found that the Halo trilogy sold around 20 million units, while the GT series has 'shipped' 50 million units, but obviously probably sold somewhere near that figure too.
Firstly, I meant to say Halo, not specifically Halo 3 alone having more fans than GT, that's oops #1.
Secondly, my primary point is that if a high profile title like Halo 3 can't end the console war, even GT can't do that. That's all I was trying to say, and exaggeration got the best of me ;)
Only for people who like Gran Turismo. I, for one, can't stand racing games. Good luck to it beating Halo 3's sales, if MGS4 couldn't then I doubt GT5 will. And this is coming from someone who strongly dislikes Halo.Zweihand
GT has broke sales records in the past though.

What kind of records? Best-selling on PlayStation 2? No, that was San Andreas. Best-selling overall? No, San Andreas. Best-selling fast? No, that was Halo 2.
Which Gran Turismo are you referring to?

I think it was the first one. Not sure which record but it was definately up there with sales.
I predict the first month the game is out, PS3 sales will be double compared to the previous month (we'll call it month x). The month after that, the PS3 sales will be X * 1.5. The third month PS3 sales will be back to normal.
GT5 Charting Predictions (numbers in months it remains in the Top 10):
I think these number are pretty generous. Looking at VGChartz, the only stuff thats been Top 10 for more than 2 months has "Wii" in the title somewhere. Not only that, but we have no clue when GT5 is launching. If major stuff like Final Fantasy XIII, Wii Sports Resort, and Halo 3 ODST comes out near the release of GT5, I think its gonna drop even faster. I'm gonna go on a limb and say that if it come out before Oct 2009, it'll sell 4-5 million copies by Jan 1, 2010.
As far is it being "over" for the 360... no. Its got it own AAA racing franchise coming out in 2009, not mention Halo 3 ODST. If the global economy is still in a chaotic state, the US is still in a recession, and PS3s are still going for $400 each, I think the impact of GT5 will actually be lessened by a crazy amount. PS3 might not even outsell the 360 for the month if all of those 3 things are still in effect.

The original has shipped nearly 11M copies as of 2008.
It's like with mainstream music, whenever a musician (or puppet) makes a breakthrough, his/hers first offerings sell the most, then the sales gradually decline and after some time it's all limited to the core audience, and think about it, PS3 has 10 times smaller install base than PS2, and with current conditions, such small user base, and sales of the franchise progressively declining, how on Earth could it sold more than its predecessors?Salt_The_FriesGT3 did it:| GT1 sold more than GT2 GT3 sold more than GT2 and GT4 Expect GT5 to do the same.
What is it with flood of joke threads made by cows?McdonaIdsGuyNot what I would call a joke thread. Gran Turismo seriously has one of the most hardcore fanbases around, and it's massive. I doubt it'll outsell something like Halo 3, but it will move consoles more than any other PS3 game yet (even MGS4/GTAIV). Not to mention, the PS3 will be like $300 by the time it comes out.
The Sony loyals are having a hard time adjusting to the fact they are having to fight to even get second place this gen :? when GT5 hits you will have a great racer to play, but don't expect record console sales or anything because it may not go that way at all.

Yes, expect GT5 to have some very impressive sales. It's just a massive system seller.
But I would never pay for that DEMO called Prologue.

Then the third game released on a different platform that hasn't even sold 1/4 of its potential sold more than its predocessor. So what we have now is this. GT3>GT1>GT2 GT4 then sells 1-3 millions less than GT3 and we say the sales are declining. However it still sells more than GT1/2. So now we have this. GT3>GT4>GT1>GT2 Now we divide this by generations PS1:GT1>GT2 PS2: GT3>GT4 Now i'm not sure where your getting your ratios and stats from, but its only logical that GT5 will have huge numbers. To put things in perspective, Gran Turismo 5 prologue outsold GT4: Prologue. Gran Turismo 5 will have much more appeal to the casual and hardcore gamer because of playstation home, ONLINE and DLC(..not too mention damage, GT TV and loads of other features). Sales fluctuate, GRAW, Rainbow Six, PGR, Motorstorm....... every series.

So let me get this straight. When GT5 hits shelves its over. But the Wii will no get affected as much? Meaning that you contradicted yourself because it won't be over. You want to talk about a game out that means game over. Then lets talk about Wii Sports.
There is not one game that can be made that will end another console period.
Mavericks, Cows, Irregulars, Fanboys. They're all the same to me
Now i'm not sure where your getting your ratios and stats from, but its only logical that GT5 will have huge numbers.Adrian_CloudNowhere, I'm just going by what you yourself said. And nowhere did I claim that GT5 wouldn't sell in large amounts, but I still don't see it selling more than GT4 let alone GT3...not with PS3's current install base; that's what I was getting at...not a total comparision throughout the entire franchise.
Also it would only be logical for a latter game in the series to sell more than the original title (GT1) two generations down the road, looking at the exponential growth of this industry. The question is also PS1's install base at the time GT1 and GT2 were released, compared to PS3's current install base.

If you're going to predict sales you would be benifical to know the userbase's of the PS1 and the PS2 with each GT installment compared to what the PS3 will be when GT5 comes out. If its user base isn't as high as the two prior consoles I wouldn't expect to it shatter the previous games sales but then again who knows. We've seen more unusual things happen.
LMAO at your exaggeration!
But in all seriousness. Gran Turismo is a beast as far as popularity and sales. GT5: Prologue sold 2.5 million units (as reported spring this year), and that's a glorified-robust demo lol. I admit to contributing :P. That probably doesn't even factor in digital purchases :?.
I could see GT5 selling like CRAZY and push systems (GT3 : PS2 :: GT5 : PS3). It can potentially be the highest selling game on a console, that's not multiplat. By the time it releases, the PS3 will be lower in price and Sony will most likely have re-focused/adjusted by then.
actually, I think most of the people who were buying a PS3 for Gran Turismo have already bought a PS3. we'll see a small lift in sales, but nothing special or sustained. sorry. GT could have made an impact if it had launched earlier this year...but it becomes more irrelevant to overall sales trends the more time goes along.Sorry to break it to you early, but you cannot escape from the A-Bomb that is Gran Turismo 5. GT5 with cheaper PS3 bundle during 2009 xmas could be a killer deal. It should be easy to advertise as it is an established franchise. Sony really can't screw this one up except by not advertising it or delaying it....oh wait...what happened to LBP?:PlabgeekYeah. But GT5 is one of Sony's babies lol. Really, I doubt they'd screw up with GT!
