The PSP is definitely the better handheld as far as games go. The DS is a gimmick handheld. I have proof! Here at GamSpot, the PSP has more AAA + AA games than does the DS. The PSP has only 5 AAA games compared to the DS' 7, however, it is in AA land that the PSP far surpasses the DS. Links are below:

PSP List of Games by Rating

DS List of Games by Rating

PSP Wins! Fatality!

Callofdutynoob

The scorces are more of a tie at first. But the DS has more games with a rating of 9 while they both tie at 9.1 and 9.2 so I think PSP is loosing to the DS. :P

almost half of the games rated 9.0 or above are nintendogs. unimpressive

Phoenix Wright, Pokemon, Meteos, Final Fantasy III, Elite Beat Agents, Castlevania, Trauma Center, Hotel Dusk.

Those destroy the PSP.

/thread

namelesschu

Phoenix Wright is a clickfest
Pokemon... again? A kids game? Please.
FF remakes don't really count anymore, they're all over the place.
Castlevania's system is already getting very, very old.
Trauma Center is decent, but still a minigame at heart.
Hotel Dusk doesn't need the touch screen. Could have been infinitely better on PSP.

I'll give you Elite Beat Agents, other than that, DS is just like the Wii, full of shallow minigame gameplay.

Burnout - Console spinoff.
MGSPO - Console spinoff.
Syphon Filter - Console spinoff.
Daxter- Console spinoff.
Tekken -Console spinoff.
World Soccer - Console spinoff.
SOCOM - Console spinoff.
Wipeout - Console spinoff.
Fifa - Console spinoff.
GTA - Console spinoff.
Mega Man - Remake.
Smackdown vs. Raw - Console spinoff.
Twisted Metal - Console spinoff.
Ape Escape - Console spinoff.
KillZone - Console spinoff.

Thanks for trying though. PSP has nothing on DS. Especially when I could just buy a PS2 for cheaper, and get another form of ALL those games.

Mario - Console Spinoff
Zelda -Console Spinoff
Metroid -Console Spinoff
Star Fox - Console Spinoff

I wish nintendo even had enough games to diss. Thanks for trying though.

So what about Phoenix Wright? Trace Memory? Magical Starsign? Elite Beat Agents? Brain Age? Cooking Mama? Trauma Center?Nintendogs? Meteos? LostMagic? Scurge: Hive?

Oh that's right, those are original IPs. Silly me, cows don't like to try something new. They like to make sure they are playing a game they might like based on a name.

ok everything in red is just a minigame or mingame compilation that last for hours on end, the blue is just laughable, the brown can be compared to puzzle bobble, bust a move/groove or other similar games. Nintendogs is pretty much tamogochi nintedo edition. WTF. But i will give you the black

Okay, you're a fanboy who is going to not use any logic when making an argument. Calling Phoenix Wright a mini-game is by far the dumbest thing I've ever read in SW history. I'm done with this guy.

Ignorance is truly bliss, no? I mean you call PW and Trauma Center mini games? Four hours only? Haha yeah I'd like to see you beat Trauma Center under four hours kid....

Brain Age is laughable because you don't like it? Sorry, your opinion doesn't mean anything kids.  Who cares what Nintendog's is, it's still AAA here on this site, and like AA at GR last I checked... and a system seller. Once again, your views are not absolute.

Puzzle Bobble? EBA? Sorry, last I checked Bubble Bobbles isn't a RYTHM GAME.... :|

Nintendogs versions count as one game. Not to mention it's pathetic the PSP's only AAA games are availible on the PS2. Lumines, Tekken, Burnout....

the fact that those links don't work and the fact that the DS has so many great upcoming realeases (eg.FF,Dragon Quest, Zelda) begs to differ that that the PSP "destroys" the DS

*sigh*Fanboys. Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center are far from being a minigame. By the way a minigame isn't really a game. Minigames are just part of a game.(ex: Party games)

what about the upcoming DS games?

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings

Final Fantasy IV remake fully 3d

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Ring of Fate

Dragon Quest Joker

Dragon Quest IX

LOL @ 4 of those 6 games being FF vehicles. Way to milk the cow Square

At the risk of sounding like a hater, I wouldn't doubt those games are just rush-jobs to capitalize on the DS's insane level of success.

PSP vs DS just comes down to preference again, like PS3 vs Wii. I like the better graphics and sound, the *S.T.Y.L.E.* of games (Tekken, GTA, Burnout, Daxter, Killzone: Liberation, SOCOM, Pirates!, MGS Portable Ops, The Warriors, God of War, Bully [probably])... all I need from a handheld is a console on the go, which is what the PSP delivers. Its like having a PS2 and many of its great games in your pocket. Then we have the media functions. I have a whole season of South Park on my mem card, a few albums worth of Mp3s, I can surf the net. DS is obviously just obliterating PSP in sales, but if I had to pick one, I would pick a PSP again. Not to say I won't grab a DS at some point (the price is right), but I have a PSP and it really covers all my handheld needs for now.

P.S. Can someone explain to me, once and for all, why Gamespot censors the word "S t y l e"? I thought it might be part of a longer, offensive word, but I can't think of anything that fits.

the "cross-button" thing works with the games made for it. All I'm saying is, for a game the relys so heavily on its controls, I really don't see it working all too well on the PSP.

so you have played all of these games then? Not to mention the success and huge sales of the newly released FF XII:RW which is no. 1 game in Japan these days. Seriously most stupid fanboys hate FF games on Nintendo platforms while they like FF games on Sony platforms which clearly shows their bias minds.

its a matter of preference but you have no right to say these awesome games of Square are just rushed-jobs.

There's also GTA: LCS, GTA: VCS, Driver 76, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Sid Meier's Pirates, SOCOM FTB 1 and 2, Burnout Dominator, The Warriors, and that's just naming a few. These are, needless to say, much better than anything DS has to offer. Who wants to play a game about Mario for the 500th time that it's been made?

Lumines destroys Meteos (in gameplay AND score)

Final Fantasy VII:  Crisis Core destroys Final Fantasy III (new game>remake)

Parappa the Rapper is on par with Elite Beat Agents

Pokemon... there's nothing else like it on the PSP, so there's obviously not going to anything that rivals it.  Same goes for Pheonix Wright, Trauma Center and Hotel Dusk.

BTW, A lot of PSP games can have the same said for them.

Syphon Filter, Lumines, Ratchet and Clank:  Size Matters, Daxter, MGS:  PO, Wipeout Pure and Loco Roco destroy the DS.

I was really hoping someone with Okami in thier Avatar would recognize the PSP for it's unoriginal gaming and complete lack of creativity. How dissapointing.

Pokemon... there's nothing else like it on the PSP, so there's obviously not going to anything that rivals it.

Yeah I agree LCS sold a ton of copies.

There's also GTA: LCS, GTA: VCS, Driver 76, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Sid Meier's Pirates, SOCOM FTB 1 and 2, Burnout Dominator, The Warriors, and that's just naming a few. jessica492

Every one of those games has a form of that franchise on the PS2. Why not just pay $130 for a PS2 rather than $160 for a PSP?

Because nobody buys it just for the games. There's music, vids, and pics. Plus, you can surf the web. It's a computer, iPod, DVD player, and PS2 built into one.

Deactivation

Actually, knock off MGS: PO, Syphon Filter, Daxter, Tekken, Twisted Metal, and GTA since those are technically sequals and/or prequals, not spin-offs and you wouldn't find them on PS2. Come to think of it, I don't think sports games would count either since every sports game on every console is just an update of a sports game a year prior. So that leaves you with about six titles that are spin offs to the DS's supposed four. Woopti Doo.

and because of opera and other 3rd parties, you can do the same thing, only BETTER on DS for about the same price... Thanks to the touch screen!

lordlors

what about the upcoming DS games?

I thought it might be part of a longer, offensive word, but I can't think of anything that fits.

so you have played all of these games then? Not to mention the success and huge sales of the newly released FF XII:RW which is no. 1 game in Japan these days. Seriously most stupid fanboys hate FF games on Nintendo platforms while they like FF games on Sony platforms which clearly shows their bias minds.

its a matter of preference but you have no right to say these awesome games of Square are just rushed-jobs.

When they announce four new Final Fantasy games simultaneously, it sounds like they're cashing in, to me. If they announced 4 new FF's for PS3 I would laugh too. No, I haven't played these games, which is why I said "At the risk of sounding like a hater, I wouldn't doubt..."I didn't say I knew anything one way or the other, it just sounds like something fishy is going on when they announce 4 new FF vehicles at the same time. FF games are such a big deal they only release one every few years. Just seems like 4 FF games might mean they're spreading themselves too thin. Don't be so touchy.

Why not buy the PSP for only $169.99 instead of an iPod for $200.00, a Digital Camera for $250.00, a PS2 for $130.00, and a DVD player for $70.00? Seems simple to me.

iPod = Much more space, better sound quality.
Digi. Camera = More space, better quality.
PS2 = More games, better games, better quality.
DVD player = More movies, better movies, cheaper movies, better quality.

Get what you pay for. If you like poor quality bunched in one package, more power to you. You're a fan of Grand Theft Auto aren't you?

maybe because the PSP isn't exactly amazing at the certain things it does... The main Problem I have with it... is cost

20 dollar SD cards, 40-50 dollar games, 15-20 dollar movies, etc.

The DS can do most everything the PSP can now thanks to 3rd parties.

And also...

PS2>PSP

Ipod > PSP

DVD Player > PSP

thats why...

Yes, but in regards to memory space, you can buy as many memory cards as you want. The PSP will catch up to the PS2 soon as far as game libraries go, iPods are very small and take forever to charge, and DVD players are huge and you can't move them. Unless you have a protable one in which case it tkaes up 3 times as much space as a PSP. With software you can rip your DVD's and put them on your PSP, so the movie libray for PSP isn't small at all.

Buying memory cards? No thanks. My 32MB one is enough for my emulato... I mean, my.. ugh... saved files! Yeah that's it.

iPods are small and take forever to charge............ Are you serious?

"With software you can rip your DVD's and put them on your PSP, so the movie libray for PSP isn't small at all." - You can do this on an iPod too.
