[QUOTE="jessica492"]There's also GTA: LCS, GTA: VCS, Driver 76, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, Sid Meier's Pirates, SOCOM FTB 1 and 2, Burnout Dominator, The Warriors, and that's just naming a few. jessica492

Every one of those games has a form of that franchise on the PS2. Why not just pay $130 for a PS2 rather than $160 for a PSP?

Because nobody buys it just for the games. There's music, vids, and pics. Plus, you can surf the web. It's a computer, iPod, DVD player, and PS2 built into one.

and because of opera and other 3rd parties, you can do the same thing, only BETTER on DS for about the same price... Thanks to the touch screen!

Why not buy the PSP for only $169.99 instead of an iPod for $200.00, a Digital Camera for $250.00, a PS2 for $130.00, and a DVD player for $70.00? Seems simple to me.

maybe because the PSP isn't exactly amazing at the certain things it does... The main Problem I have with it... is cost

20 dollar SD cards, 40-50 dollar games, 15-20 dollar movies, etc.

The DS can do most everything the PSP can now thanks to 3rd parties.

And also...

PS2>PSP

Ipod > PSP

DVD Player > PSP

thats why...

Yes, but in regards to memory space, you can buy as many memory cards as you want. The PSP will catch up to the PS2 soon as far as game libraries go, iPods are very small and take forever to charge, and DVD players are huge and you can't move them. Unless you have a protable one in which case it tkaes up 3 times as much space as a PSP. With software you can rip your DVD's and put them on your PSP, so the movie libray for PSP isn't small at all.

ill stick to my DS and my Ipod Video...

Oh that a shame, since Mario Kart DS outscore every PSP game on gameranking.

According to Gamespot, yes, but according to me and many others, the Mario franchise is just about squeezed dry. Not much liquid left, if you get my metaphor.

iPod = Much more space, better sound quality.
Digi. Camera = More space, better quality.
PS2 = More games, better games, better quality.
DVD player = More movies, better movies, cheaper movies, better quality.

Actually, the sound quality is determined by the audio codec properties of the file . That being said, determining how you convert your mp3s or WMA's, you can get great sound. As for space, yes, memory stick pro duos have yet to break even ten gigs of memory as of now. Digital Camera: As before, depends on how you convert the images to the PSP. If you have a memory stick above 256 mb, images aren't a problem. PS2: well, that ends up really down to your opinion. The games on PSP are designed for portability, so whether that hinders them or not is really just due the platform they are designed for. Not to mention what possibilites custom firmwares open up. DVD: You don't need to buy UMD movies to watch movies on the psp. You can convert any number of your own video media formats (like avi, divx, Windows Media, etc.)to be watched and can adjust the quality of the them.In short, the PSP is much more flexible a media device than you give it credit for.

I'm sick of Mario. Why can't they keep him in the platformer genre. They stick him in every game they have so his iconic image will pull in a few more people. Mario Banking. Mario Bartender. Mario Proctologist. It gets a little ridiculous. Why can't they have a tennis game without sticking Mario, Yoshi, Bowser, Toadstool etc. in there? I'm not a fanboy. I owned a NES, a SNES and a Gameboy, and every Mario released for them. I also completed Mario 64 at a relatives house. I just think they've milked him dry. Keep him in platformers and I may not get so sick of him.

I'm not arguing it's flexibilty, I'm arguing the PSP's quality of all of it's features. I can buy an iPod for my movies/music and not worry about space, or I can fit three movies on a PSP memory card that costs upwards $50. It's a very cost worthy system when it does its features to highest capability, either expensive, or extremely limited in space. I just fail to see why people don't just buy an iPod and a DS. It's two products that are a better quality on all fronts than the PSP has to offer. The PSP does make a great NES/SNES portable system though. I didn't say that.

I was really hoping someone with Okami in thier Avatar would recognize the PSP for it's unoriginal gaming and complete lack of creativity. How dissapointing.

LOL

Nope, no cigar... and besides, you're wrong about the lack of creativity.  In fact, YOU of all people should know, since you use home.... in this case, the creativity stems from the users, which is basically what happens with Linux.

And besides, the PSP does have a few original games, such as GripShift and LocoRoco.  (again with the:)  And besides, what do you expect from a handheld which is layed out in the exact same way as the PS2, albeit with less buttons?  A touch screen allows for more gameplay diversity, obviously.  But remember this:  originality will never = good gaming unless it's matched with good execution.  Games such as XYXX and a myriad of other DS games need to learn this.

Get what you pay for. If you like poor quality bunched in one package, more power to you. You're a fan of Grand Theft Auto aren't you?

Yes, I think lugging around a television, an iPod, a DVD player, and a PS2 is a grrrrreat idea. Set it all up on the subway and have a blast! Be realistic. Comparing a PSP to a friggin console is absolutely ridiculous. RIDICULOUS.

You don't need to buy their UMDs. Rip whatever you have on your HD on there and voila. The quality is great too.

Let's be blind fanboys and not factor in the MAIN SELLING POINT of the PSP, PORTABILITY. It's called a Playstation Portable for God's sake. CLUE!

When you do a crappy port of a AAA PS2 game, you get a AA PSP game. Not saying all of the games are like this, but there are enough to make the difference between the number of AA's.

Not to mention that the DS has a lot of underrated games, such as Contact and DQH: Rocket Slime. And anyone who actually thinks Diddy Kong Racing DS deserves a 6.7 hasn't played the game, but then again, GS hates kart racers -

DKR64: GS - 6.6, GR - 89%

MK64: GS - 6.4, GR - 85%

As my sig says, thats just like, your opinion, man.

I have an iPod. It's a G4 that I paid $400 for when it came out, and it does nothing but play music. My PSP, for $200-something, plays music too. And it plays games. And it plays movies. And it surfs the net.

Game-wise, I don't think the DS even touches the PSP. I like GTA. I like God of War. I like MGS. I do not like Nintendogs. I do not like Pokemon. I do not like Green Eggs and Ham. It's all a matter of preference, and I certainly prefer the titles (both ports and exclusives) that PSP has on offer.

Video, my iPod doesn't do video. I'm not shelling out for a new iPod because my current one plays music just fine, and my PSP plays videos on a nicer screen with the exact same quality.

Audio, my iPod is tough to beat. Quality-wise, the PSP is just as good, if not better. Capacity-wise, iPod takes the cake easily.

Now, shall I shell out for an iPod and a DS (what does that come out to?) or keep my PSP? Do I want a technically inferior game machine and a superior audio machine, or something that does it all?

The fact that you basically have to "team up" a DS and an iPod to take down a PSP says a lot. What do they cost? And you're complaining about buying a couple of mem cards? Mkay.

My bad.  I didn't read the post leading up to it, so I thought that he was just another cog in the "PSP=port tsunami"  machine.

Anyways, I get the point.  The DS has more original IPS than the PSP does, but in my opinion that doesn't matter so long as the games are fun.

you're stupid...

Syphon Filter = sequel AND better than any of its console predecessors.

Killzone = sequel AND better than any of its console predecessors.

Twisted Metal = sequel AND better than any of its console predecessors except Black.

Mega Man:  Powered Up is NOT a remake.  Not only that, but it also lets you CREATE YOUR OWN LEVELS.

FIFA = EA sports game.  WTF do you expect?!  FIFA on DS = console spinoff!!!! god, use your #$@$#@$ brain for once...

Wipeout Pure = sequel AND better than any of its console predecessors.

The rest are spinoffs though, I admit that.  But then again, look at the DS.  Most of ITS great games are spinoffs.

MPH is a spinoff Sequel

Mario 64 is a spinoff No comment

Mario Kart DS is a spinoff It better then previous mario kart games

Castlevania DOS and POR are spinoffs Sequels

NSMB is a spinoff. No comment

KCC is a spinoff No comment

Mario and Luigi:  partners in time is a spinoff of a spinoff. Sequel

The PSP is definitely the better handheld as far as games go. The DS is a gimmick handheld. I have proof! Here at GamSpot, the PSP has more AAA + AA games than does the DS. The PSP has only 5 AAA games compared to the DS' 7, however, it is in AA land that the PSP far surpasses the DS. Links are below:

Face it, people don't want to admit Sony is doing good at something.  It all goes back to all the negative rhetoric against Sony.  You look at the scores (what really matter) and you see PSP has better, more higher scored games.  Then the sheep come here and give a 1001 excuses as to why the PSP has better games than their "almighty DS" which happens to sell alot because it's cheaper and appeals to a younger audience (kids actually buy handhelds).  PSP's games are rated high, end of story.

scores vary by game site. and more people buy DS even though psp is created by sony. so DS still wins.rowzzr

The fact that it's created by sony is a blessing and a bane.  A blessing because of the prior success of the PS brand, a bane because Sony has had no prior experience in the handheld market.  Nintendo has had almost two decades.  Whoever actually thought that Sony would be able to kick Nintendo off of its high horse in one handheld generation is an idiot.  However, Sony DID manage to win over 21.5 million people.  Now THAT's an accomplishment for a first try.

[QUOTE="Deactivation"]Interesting how the PSP games you listed are sequels, and the Castlevania's aren't...

The point was original IPs vs. original IPs if you'd read the whole thread rather than be so anxious to make personal attacks.white_sox

Who cares about new IPs...I'd take a good sequel than a bad new game. You bash good games just because we've seen the same face before? Dumb.

So the comment fanboys make against Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, along with Pokemon is ok, because it's just Nintendo right? Suddenly a great score from many sites, and critics alike means nothing, because it's "just another mario" game despite being new and a sequel to a running series.... Huh... funnay... :|

you're stupid...

Sequel

Did you know you just self owned yourself?

"Self-owned yourself"? As opposed to "self-owning" someone else?

Face it, people don't want to admit Sony is doing good at something. It all goes back to all the negative rhetoric against Sony. You look at the scores (what really matter) and you see PSP has better, more higher scored games. Then the sheep come here and give a 1001 excuses as to why the PSP has better games than their "almighty DS" which happens to sell alot because it's cheaper and appeals to a younger audience (kids actually buy handhelds). PSP's games are rated high, end of story. SergeantSnitch

Since scores matter: According to Gamerankings.com
-DS-
Mario Kart - 92.2%
Advance Wars - 90.5%
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow - 90.3%
New Super Mario. - 88.8%
Meteos - 88.6%

-PSP-
Lumines - 90.2%
Wipeout Pure -88.7%
Ridge Racer - 88.5%
Tekken -88.5%
GTA: LCS - 87.4%

According to this, 3 AAA DS games, 1 AAA PSP game.

That's my point, though.  I'm being as stupid & careless as this person was when naming games that are "spinoffs".

I already know that ML: PIT was a sequel and that the Castlevania games are sequels as well (but at the same time, though, they are technically spinoffs of the original storyline, as it's branching into other families now).

I was just making the "DS spinoff list" for the sake of invoking irony.

"You look at the scores (what really matter)"

"scores" was plural. That implies multiple reviews.

What game did I bash? Please put words in my mouth and tell me what game I bashed?

You make all these games sound like garbage...

Burnout - Console spinoff.
MGSPO - Console spinoff.
Syphon Filter - Console spinoff.
Daxter- Console spinoff.
Tekken -Console spinoff.
World Soccer - Console spinoff.
SOCOM - Console spinoff.
Wipeout - Console spinoff.
Fifa - Console spinoff.
GTA - Console spinoff.
Mega Man - Remake.
Smackdown vs. Raw - Console spinoff.
Twisted Metal - Console spinoff.
Ape Escape - Console spinoff.
KillZone - Console spinoff.

...or thats the way you come off.

I own three of those games, it was to make a point, not to illustrate my dislike of the games.

Are you actually reading the posts, or are the tears blurring your vision? He said that PSP didn't knock Nintendo off of its high horse, and most people didn't expect it to. Try reading the post next time before you jump to conclusions. Its not like his post was even long, there's no excuse.

And do you know what's the common factor for each of those PSP games that didn't score 90%+?  1 or 2 70% reviews.  in other words, basically 2 review sites kept each game from achieving AAA status.

My bad. I didn't read the post leading up to it, so I thought that he was just another cog in the "PSP=port tsunami" machine.

Anyways, I get the point. The DS has more original IPS than the PSP does, but in my opinion that doesn't matter so long as the games are fun.

BTW, I don't think you saw this...

Don't tell me how to read, you should learn to write. You implied in your statement, that prior to the launch nobody should think Sony could dent Nintendo in the handheld market. Yet in the very next sentence you go on to say Sony sold so many, and that was an impressive feat. I thought this was to contrast the original thought that wouldn't be done, was in fact, done.

and don't even deny the fact this forum is trolling with many people claiming that the PSP "stole" marketshare, (when if it had sold just one system it would've technically taken marketshare). So excuse me for thinking you're another one of those types.
