where should i get it then? You are a terrible consumer then. So, you are saying that you would pay $999.99 for a PS3 when you can get one for $299.99?[QUOTE="SolidTy"]
It's 7.99 or rounded up, $8 a month. I used to try and explain this to people and gave up around 2007.
The misinformation spreads and now we see TC's asking questions. The most Damage control I've seen is the I only spend "$30 a year and it's great" without explaining to the SW poster that in reality they got a sale. It goes on and on. I try to pay less too, but I don't try to spread misinformation.
Sorry you had to find out the hard way TC.
The Xbox Live monthly charge is $8, however, the annual charge is $50. Why are we breaking up the annual charge into per month? Then the information gets diluted, and we have confused posters, like the TC of this thread.
I understand the breakdown, and as I tried to explain to folks other people don't. Also, the official monthly charge for Xbox Live is $7.99 per month. Besides, why are we breaking it down. Why not break down other products per month?
How come nobody ever talks about the 100's of dollars Xbox Live costs over the years? I know I've bought a PS3 and Wii with the money I've spent on the service starting at just this generation (of course, I have two Xbox 360's and two Xbox Live accounts).
DropTarget
What, I didn't say I spend $7.99...I have had two gold accounts for years and it adds up though. No need to try and make it personal. I'm not a terrible consumer. You just read what I posted, and then tried to apply it to me, as if I live some sort of terrible consuming lifestyIe. No need to do that.
BTW : Some people do pay more for 360's, Wii's, and PS3's at those rent to own places. They charge you per month, so it seems cheaper, but it costs much more in the end.

Ok, am I going insane here? XBL is $50/yr. That comes out to a little more than $4 a month. How is it $8 a month?
No one is spreading misinformation, they're just paying $50 a year, which I thought was the norm... :?

When adding up totals, it has to either be 8$, or 50$. Some people try to cheese it and site a yearly figure using the 8$ a month cost.

Everything else in SW isn't divided into months, but somehow Xbox Live Damage control is allowed and has been for years.

The reason that people say "it's $4 a month" is because of the prevalence of 12month subscription cards. Everyone I know uses them, they can be gotten online or from almost any online store. I actually use Wal-Mart for my subscription card purchases because they routinely go on sale and give you free shipping to a WM near you.
XBL is only $8 if you do not use one of these cards, which from everything I've seen is actually only a minority of the people that don't. A PS3 250Gb costs $350 but you don't see people quoting the price of the PS3 as $350? Why not? Because there is a just as easy to find, cheaper alternative.

I agree. I have never seen people try to apply the $8 x12 number, but if they did I would be in that thread explaining it's $50 per year, not $96.
[QUOTE="WarEagle1357"]I paid $35 for mine so 35/12= $2.92 a month...seabiscuit8686Agreed - I only ever pay $30 (no tax or shipping) from Amazon for the 13 month card: 30/13 = $2.31 per month
I believe the 13 month cards were discontinued a long time ago, where are you finding those at Amazon?
$4 is pure bullocks and people need to stop spreading it. Lems and their nonsense. I just went on Amazon and saw a 12-month XBL card for $40. I'm no math experts but 40/12 =/= 4. Lems need to stop with the BS and come clean.Senor_Kami

good thing the sale seems to constantly go on. But then again hey I've not paid over 30 dollars for a year of xbox live in over 5 years. but that's just me and my amazing ability to actually find deals...that are obvious and consistant...like amazon's and neweggs when combined lasted for a total of 6 months last year.
Do you actually paying $2.91 a month or do you pay a whole years worth in one go?It's coming from the fact that you can find XBL subscriptions at a rate equivalent to or lower than that. It's not uncommon for amazon to have $35 12 month subscription cards, which equates out to $2.91 a month. I understand this is system wars and people aren't always grounded in reality, but the reality of the situation is that consumers do not consider MSRP when they make a purchase, they consider the price they are able to get it for.

as far as my bank shows... or people are just in denial
You have to buy a one year subscription and its only $50... as you know $50 devided by 12 months = $4.16/month. You'd be very foolish to buy it month to month continuously.[QUOTE="BPoole96"]

It's silliness to break such a small payment down even smaller. But if that $50 is hurting you, then by all means, make it seem as small as possible so your wallet stops crying.

You're starving yourself by saving up $1/week? Maybe gaming isn't the right hobby for you then.
paying for live is still more than steam (free) that is a much better service all around, and psn/home is free also
Basically I goes like this.
official prices.
1 month $7.99
3 months $19.99 ($6.70 per month)
12 months $49.99 ($4.17 per month)
Unofficial prices.
1 month Free (http://m.slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1911756)
3 month dunno never see these.
12 months $35 (basically everybody has a $30-35 deal for a year of live at least 1 time a year) $2.92 per month.
So basically you can go either on any extreme of the spectrum which is free or $7.99 a month, but I'd prefer to go w/ what I think your typical XBL consumer pays for live, and that's probably 4.17 per month w/ the official 12 month plan.
[QUOTE="Little_Big_Dude"]You gotta love how the Lem solution is to starve yourself and XBL that will give you extra money to pay for XBL.I honestly don't think it's a matter of XBOX Live being 'too expensive'. Its a matter of 'perceived value'. You either think Twitter, Facebook, Last FM, Netflix, and Party Chat is worth $50 a year in addition to playing games online. Or... you don't. --- I don't think the features alone are worth it at ALL as of now. I think there are some exclusive upcoming shooters that are worth it though (Gears 3 and Halo Reach).Don't go out to eat once a month for a year and your live subscription will be paid for. But unfortunately for Timmy, he can't afford it. That's where you come in. For just a mere 14 cents a day you can make sure Timmy pwns noobs with his trusty Gravity Hammer on XBL. No. They need to let it go because it's not an issue and no well-respected gaming press ever supports their whining.
using the 4 dollars a month idea is by far the stupidest thing to say and is a horrible argument. Many things in this world would sound nicer if you were able to break it down on a monthly basis. The principle of charging for online play is absolutely absurd. since it's inception on teh PC online gaming has always been free. also using the monthly fails to take into account the long terms effects. I've had my PS3 for over 3 years now 3*50= $150. thats 2.5 games. in other world i have to sacrifice more than 2 games in my collection to pay for xbl and it's supposedly superior service. I'm sorry but push comes to shove i'd rather be able to buy more games and settle for a simpler yet still adequate service of PSN over paying for XBL. Also i want to pose this question to those people who feel XBL is worth it. If gold membership retained all of it's current features but now silver offers online play, friends lists, and basic forms of communication found on PSN for free. Now while you might feel it's worth it but do you really think the other 10 million(not sure on that number) people also agree and will continue to for XBL? When push comes to shove people would rather pay less or not pay at all if they can get a basic service. MS also knows when they first created xbl were hoping people would adpot it. If gamers back on the xbox would have said now XBL would now be free. It only because the precedent was set that gamers are willing to pay for online that this is even an issue
