Which game impressed you most, graphically?

FFXIII is a solid entry in the series. Better than several others in the main canon (including VII, IMO).

The story is cliched and idiotic, the characters are probably the most annoying and two-dimensional they've ever been, the combat is essentially done for you, and 5/6 of the game is spent navigating corridors while the final portion is spent exploring a world that's a fraction of what's in VII. If you like it, that's fine, but for me it was the most embarrassing entry in the single-player series to date. My faith in Square Enix, particularly after the debacle that was XIV, has completely dissipated.

Dead space 2 deserves a mention as well. Some parts of that the lighting looked incredible.

The story is poorly fleshed out, not cliched. The characters are equally shallow because of poor presentation, but no more two-dimensional than VII's cast. Combat is condensed and fast paced compared to VII's "variety" that boiled down to mash Attack because MP costs are outrageous past first tier spells. A large and relatively empty world also present in VII.

That we have differing opinions on both games is all well and good. I still enjoy VII from time to time when I want to chuckle at the laughable plot. Materia System in VII was also nice, even if it turned all the characters into carbon copies (a little like XIII, but not quite).

Grand Theft Auto 3 and a few years later Company of Heroes

The original Aliens Vs Predator on PC.

Metroid Prime was graphically amazing and it also had an unmatched atmosphere.

FEAR 1. I remember seeing my friend playing the demo, at the intro bit where you and the other FEAR guys are looking at the screens talking, I couldn't believe it was in-engine

Assisns Creed, Gears of War 1, and of course Crysis.

Oblivion day one of release.

Final Fantasy X... Crysis Warhead and MGS4.

Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3 (SNES, 6j), and the first two Donkey Kong Country games.

This gen, Final Fantasy XIII, the game is really beautiful.

All time, maybe Resident Evil 2, at the time it was amazing, it was the first time i saw something like that.

Gears Of War, Uncharted 2 and God Of War 3 all equally impressive

Wave Race 64, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Ninja Gaiden Black, Far Cry, Half-Life 2, Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy and Gears of War.

Gears 1, when I knew a helluva lot less about gaming, and Crysis, and that's just through YouTube videos.

This gen: Killzone 2

All time: Metroid Prime 2 (for it's time that was as good as it got in the graphics department.

Oblivion even though the computer I had when I bought it could only run it on medium.

Silent Steel and Phantasmagoria

It was the first time playing cinematic story driven games. I thought it was pretty neat at the time.

Gran Turismo 4, when I first saw the gameplay trailer, I could not tell if it was real or not, that was when I was 11.

Back when I was younger, I thought RE4 was the epitomy of game graphics. Also, wind Waker wowed me with its design.

Eternal Sonata. The first thing that came to my mind when I loaded up the demo was, "whoa, this looks beautiful."

Gears of War also impressed me when it came out. I also found chapter 3 of FFXIII to be very impressive, but the other chapters didn't wow me. They still looked pretty good however.
