Despite the ligting looking fantastic in BF3, where you kinda underwhelmed by the overall graphics on BF3?

OB-47

Don't know how anyone could be underwhelmed. Looks better than any other multiplayer shooter and these aren't even the final graphics. We still have updated ones comming out with the final release and ultra settings too.

The Witcher 2 imo, the graphics and art direction are the best right now.

Ucharted 2 no doubt! This game is like playing a movie! Although the gameplay needs some tweaking it's still an amazing game.

Probably ICO when i saw it the first time, running around outside on the castle grounds with the huge draw distance, and how you could see past areas you had explored in the background.

Was really impressed at the time.

It was the first game I played after buying my gaming rig. Before that,I had only played games on my 360 and some old pc games.

No it wasn't.

and what wxactly was the best looking more graphically advanced game in 98? If anything Unreal received alot of praise for its open landscapes detailed textures and exceptional lighting for its time

On console ; those were, from the old days until now : Donkey Kong Country (TEH graphics were 32bit!!!!-SNES), Final fantasy 8 (the FMV played real time while playing!!!!-PS1), Wipeout3 (60fps!!! PS1), Metal Gear Solid2 (the details:ice cubes melting in real time-PS2), Metroid Prime (no loading times in the entire game:GC), Resident Evil 4 (the PS2 version had HALF the polygons: GC version of course), TES Oblivion (the first time you stepped outdoor...xbox360), Gears of War (the rain in the forest...good memories: xbox360), Uncharted (the water effects, the interaction with the environments: PS3), Farcry2 (yes, I know, but I really liked the engine: PS3) , Uncharted2 (without it, maybe there wasn't a Gears of War 3 like this...), Crysis2 (you can say what you want about the game, but the graphics...xbox360), Gears of War 3 (just play it and see: xbox360).

On the PC, things are a bit different for me because I've never had a real high end system...

I was a bit with textures. It still is easily the best MP graphics around, but from the hype and photos I saw the graphics where kinda dissapointing. But the cloth on the soldier looks godly. It' an August build so when the final game comes out

Gears of War and Elder Scrolls Oblivion, early this gen. and for all the hate it gets Crysis 2 is a very good looking game and one that we will look back on in a few years and say it was the best looking game this gen unless DOOM 4 has something to say.

but all time is the original Resident Evil on PS1 it looked so good for it's time and i think it was a launch title though i'm not sure.

When Gears of War 1 came out I was really surprised, never saw anything like it before. PGR3 was also just amazing to me at the time

of course looking back at those games now they are blah but back in the day they really amazed me graphically.

I would like to be more original, but for me it was Uncharted 2.

When I first saw the trailer, my jaw made a hole through the floor. True story.

The 2005 Kameo, the 2006 Oblivion & gears plus games like RDR, Banjo, Reach has hugely improved Halo visuals and Crysis, Arma, Uncharted as well and of course Gears 3 is superlative for 6 year old hardware. :P

360 - Oblivion when it first came out.

PS3 - Killzone 2 when it first came out

Wii - Xenoblade Chronicles because of the ridiculous draw distance that seems impossible with the Wii's tiny RAM.

Zelda OOT when it came out, going from super mario world and other 2D SNES games to N64 was probably the biggest leap ever for games and for me aswell! Luigi's Mansion also blew my mind when I got my gamecube at how crisp and clear it looked compared to Mario 64 graphics!

For this gen though I got to say FF13 is the most impressive i've played so far, too bad its such a linear boring game!! Ahhh!

Metroid Prime won me over in a single graphical moment. Landing on Tallon IV for the first time, looking up to the sky and seeing the raindrops falling down on Samus visor sent chills down my spine. That's also when Metroid Prime won me over after doubting it for so long.

Mirror's Edge is probably the only game that has made my jaw drop in terms of how otherwordly good it looks. Compare shots of Mirror's Edge to almost anything else released this generation and the colour difference is night and day.

And of course I will never forget the distinct graphical style of Donkey Kong Country 2 the beehive, theme park and lava levels simply blew my mind as a kid. And they STILL look amazing.

Other games are Yoshi Island, Half-Life 2, Perfect Dark, Red Alert 2, Starcraft, Banjo & Kazooie, Wind Waker, Super Metroid

You're post just reminded me of my first Prime experience and I'm ashamed I forgot it. I remember on that first intro area shooting all those tiny bugs and their green guts splash against the visor and I was like "Damn".
