I played it again to give it another chance just because of what all of you said. This game is LAME. There's an emergence hole, locusts climb out, and then I murder half of them before they even reacquire their posture. Then I speed-walk to the next room and do it again. Then I turn it off. The graphics aren't impressive unless you compare it to other 360 games. I don't care what anyone says, it looks the same as the last game. These minor improvements are about as significant as Jak 2 to Jak 3. Playing them side by side, you wouldn't know which one is the sequel without someone pointing out minor upgrades. Plus the "horror" elements are gone in favor of trees and draw distance (whoop-di-freakin-do!). Marcus is a LAME excuse for a lead character. The first game led you to believe he was capable of a LOT more or that his legacy was strong, in this game you realize just how standard he is because he doesn't really go above and beyond, he just goes with the flow of war.
Cole is still obnoxious. Baird is still a the incompetent voice of reason. Dom is still poon-whipped. I DON'T CARE about Maria. And I don't CARE about new characters if you're just going to have them off themselves. Music is almost absent half of the time. Yeah the second Gears game is just as good as the first but THAT JUST ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH by today's standards. For chrissakes the game is 2 years-old and we should be able to actually NOTICE the visual improvements of Gears 2, not have to argue about it one bit. Yeah I played the Worm-innards part, I don't see how this makes the 360 seem like a graphics revolutionary. As far as I'm concerned, both PS3 and 360 are in second place together with graphics and falling behind on gameplay. I want to have FUN, not feel the drive to get online while I'm drunk and tell people how insignificant their subjections are. Yes, I played Horde and it felt like playing at the collesium in Kingdom Hearts. It only appeals for so long. It's just a bonus mode, and developers should be ashamed for relying on a game's extra content to make it worth playing. J
UST ADMIT IT! ADMIT that you expected so much more from Gears of War 2! It's okay to do that! Don't act like a hundred other sequels didn't improve substancially more upon their legacy than a new MP mode and more varied settings! Even that crapfest Fable 2 brought more in is bag than this cash-cow! No offense to those of you that actually feel fulfilled by this game, but 2 years is a long time to make improvements. Look at what other 2-year sequels brought to their franchises: San Andreas, Pandora Tomorrow, System Shock 2... god, if I sat in the developer's chair with this game, NOBODY would be questioning its integrity! I would make SURE that no renters would warn me about the lack of improvement, or that a Gamestop employee doesn't tell a shopper how similar it is to the original (and I've experienced both of these, multiple times!)
Yes I am drunk. You know how it is, you just feel like going to a department store and telling everyone how they're getting ripped off and that they should get a discount card at Harris Teeter so they can purchase 4 power-aids for the price of 3. So in place of that I'm telling you that GEARS OF WAR 2 is the biggest RIP-OFF you ever played and don't tell yourself other because you wanted your 300 dollars to reward you in 2008. SORRY! It did not!!!! I HATE THIS STUPID GAME! I'm going to go play Max Payne 2 and enjoy this buzz now that it's really going. Hoo-rah Marine Corps and hurray for captain morgan and met-rx bars and I wish Descent 3 would hurry the hell up and download. GOD I HATE BITTORRENT.
