Why are all Main/Playable characters White?

San Andreas and Afro Samurai are the only ones I can think of. Another question to ask, is why are all the bad guys white? :P Remember the stink that was raised when certain people found out that RE5 had white heroes killing black zombies? :|

There are tons of Asian/Black/Spanish leads. Like Riddick, San Andreas, 50 Cent :P, etc..

How can you say there aren't any black comic book super heros when one of the best ones out there is black.

As for games, yes, there are usually no black playable characters...and the only one I know is Carl Johnson and he was an extremely stereotypical character.

I used to think that Jade from BG&E was black but now I'm not too sure anymore. The only "normal" black character I've seen in a game is Lambert, the NPC from Splinter cell lol.

Anyways, there is a simple solution to this...all you have to do is become a developer and make your own games the way you want to.

Race batters are the ones who notice color of skin first and sadly are just Waiting to be offended which is only a ploy used to control others that those of us who actually are color blind when it comes to skin color are virtually sickened by this fact. :?

For my rant, why isn't there Indonesian, Singaporean or Malaysian game characters at all!?? There are over 300 million people together living in those Asian countries. We only get to see East Asians (Japanese,Chinese,Korean, Taiwanese) in games but never South East Asians or South Asians. The game industry needs more variety in their games.

Just to "connect" with the audience, which people presumed all of them to white. Truth is there are people in every country who plays games. But if you want a worse example, look at films. When was the last movie made in Hollywood that didn't have a white lead? Hint: It's not dragonball evolution.

Why people focus on the color of the characters is beyond me.

For the same reason there aren't alot of black leading characters on television:having a black leading character usually leads to the opinion that it's a niche title.To be less politically correct,having a black main character means most people will think it's for African-Americans.Actually,any ethnic group has the same effect.

What is "white" anyways? People from Russia all through Europe and into Canada and the United States are all considered "white" yet many of them come from very different and varied ethnic backgrounds.

What bearing does the colour of a character's skin have on their depth and the quality of the game?

personally don't care about what the race is of the character I play, as its all fake to me. But I do enjoy the occasional game that offers diversity in their character line up. I'm glad they made the co-protagonist in the new RE black, even though I wish they made her look like a majority of Africans (i.e. darker)

I really don't think i've seen a non white main/playable character. Most of the main/playable characters are white people, like gears 1&2, killzone2, uncharted 1&2, dark sector, assassins creed, etc. Even with comic book super hero's they are all white too, whats the deal?

I don't know. Uncharted was kind of racist though. All the good characters are caucasian and all the enemies are latinos, asians, and blacks. Great game nonetheless.

i just finished playing Uncharted. First PS3 game I truly enjoyed and played all the way through. Except for the stupid twist at the end it was as engrossing as any game I've ever played.shsonline
