I believe that Valve don't want to make some games for Playstation 3, because they don't know how to make codes for Playstation 3. Keep in mind, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360's codes is big different, in between of Xbox 360 and PC is almost same. So it's easier for Valve to create games for Xbox 360 and PC only. You can see that Orange Box on Playstation 3 didn't great version, while Xbox 360 and PC is very great. Orange Box on Playstation 3 has length of loading time problem, bugs, and many things.

Valve are PC developers.

I honestly doubt they would even bother porting their games to the 360 if it wasn't easy to do so.

TF2 hasn't received half as many updates on the 360 compared to the PC.

Well I don't see anyr eason why they won't seeing how they are even programming for opengl which means they would just need to optimize and port that code to ps3 similar to xbox 360. They actually have no excuse this time except that they want nothing to do with ps3.

they are making a mac game which would just mean they would have to port and optimize that for ps3.

Why do Cows assume developers are under obligation to bring their games to the PS3?

sSubZerOo

.. Not to mention why are these people taking it so personally .. the Playstation 3 like the 360, and every other platform.. IS A PRODUCT base.. Not some kind of people they are trying to put down.. This is a business.. They look out for their shareholders and what not, deal with it.

I'm starting to believe that you didn't even read my posts in this thread if you think that I'm a fanboy,so I won't even bother to prove you wrong.

Instead of releasing Portal 2, why they don't do Half Life 2 Episode 3? I'm losing my faith each time on Valve.

I don't think they're treating it like "trash". It seems like they just don't care for developing for it, even if they could make a profit. In the end I do think they regret they earlier comments.

You know they didn't even make the 360 version of L4D. Certain Affinity did. Why couldn't they do the PS3 port? They could have outsourced it. It seems like they just didn't want to.

It might be too much work and money for them to outsource from other devs. Remember Valve has pretty small development team. And they've said it before, putting the time and resources into the PS3 won't have long term benefits.

they just have to port 95% from the mac iteration. I would imagine they wouldn't need to put much effort this time.

Then it will run slow. The code for textures, physics, etc are all goign to be the exact same. If they want to optimize it they will have to add code.

Or they could get EA to do it, like The Orange Box. Then actually support the game post-release themselves. That was an issue they admitted to fans.

---

They already stated they were wrong in about the PS3. And 2007-2008 isn't like present day. I'm sure they could successfully develop on the PS3 and make profits.

---

EDIT: Valve actually has 250 employees. Not really small. I think they're just "small" in philosopy. They also have an independent spirit and close ties to MS. They have a partnership with one of the biggest publishers in the world with EA.

Yeah,I don't think that 250 employees can be considered "small","Mid-Sized" is actually more suitable, considering the fact that Infinity Ward has nearly 100 employees and they have developed MW and MW2 for all platforms including PS3.

It isn't an issue. Kojima wanted to make a ps3 exclusive than they could make a xbox 360, pc game. I hate how valve doesn't just say this openly. Instead of all these silly comments. I guess they find it amusing though that people would care that they troll the ps3.

Seriously, that makes zero sense to me. First they admit that they "Messed up on PS3" and then they announce that there's "No Portal 2 for PS3".

As I see it they are still treating the PS3 like trash by not porting any of their games to it and thinking of PS3 ports as an afterthought, why is that?

Thanks.

Just play it on your mighty PC that all PS3 owners have... or buy a 360, no problem, they're cheap now.

They all form a screwed-up family, really. Sony is the jocky older brother, Microsoft is the nerdy middle child, and Nintendo is the little tyke that occasionally attempts to act like the older siblings.

I guess that makes the PC the dad. But who's the mom?

I mean, why not just release the game on the ps3 and expand there potential market. The ps3 must have a fairly close market share by now and its growing everyday, I can think of maybe 3 reasons why they don't: 1)They're lazy and don't wanna learn the ps3 2)They're not happy with their skill with the ps3 yet and want their first proper release on the system to be of a high standard.(hopefully) 3)(For the conspiracy lovers)Microsoft t in coalition with the reverse vampires are paying them off not to release titles for the ps3 in an effort to destroy the ps3 and eliminate the meal of dinner.killzonexbox
4) valve determined that porting the game would either loose them money or make very little money conpared to just keeping it 360/pc

But the PS3 version of almost every other big title sells close to or even better than the 360 version, that is,since the release of the PS3 slim and the rise in it's sales.

Valve most likely gets paid and/or incentivised by Microsoft to develop/port games to the XBOX 360 and not bring games to the PS3.

firstly why are cows complaining they got orange box what did wii get from valve, nothing , ,

so if any ones getting treated like trash its wii ,

ps3 deserves it though , just look at the games ps3 made cancel,

timesplitters 4

secondsight wii

any game midway had in development-such as rush , crusin 5 etc

the biggest devistation sits at top of list-goldeneye teams timesplitters 4 we all know how good that would have been better then kz 2 of course , , halo of course as good as perfectdark 64 ,/ge/ts

lol

i dont feel so sorry about ps3s loses , as i do wiis/360s

because of sony we lose alot

lets see what weve lost

600 dollars we will never get back

3 awsome gaming companies/developers along with some awsome game ips

and most of all

sonys lost its exclusives and loyalties such as

... gta

final fantasy

need for speed-wii got an exclusive nfs ,,, immagine that

metal gear-who would have thought ! cows thats who

gran turismo may be next!hahaha thanks to nascar getting involved!

spyro-since ps2 era

crash-since ps2 era

rugrats-shared w gc , before hand n64 and ps1 had seperate titles except rugrats in paris

lets not forget the franchises ruined by ps2

-top gear this was a big disappointment -dare devel , , what a drag

timesplitters-thanks to haze as mentioned above

lair -destroyed midway

so with that valve should continue t support xbox360 and thin k of supporting wii ,

Of course they do. 2 and 2 is easy to put together.

EA wanted to port L4D 1 and 2, especially 2, but Valve declined. With 30 million PS3 userbase, its the only logical conclusion. Really easy to read.

Clearly EA does have something to do with Valve. You just claimed otherwise.

Besides, I'm sitting here with my Orange Box PS3 jewel case that showes EA on the cover.

EA and Valve are in bed together.

EA wants to port all of Valve's games to PS3 and any other console they can think of. At this juncture, to refuse is not a question of Ability or resourses....its something else.

Microsoft pays.

Everybody knows that Valve and EA have a distribution deal, but thats as far as the relationship goes - distributing the games to retailers. EA have no business or creative sway on Valve whatsoever. Valve have said on numerous occassions that they aren't interested in the PS3. You really need to get a grip on yourself.

Valve have said on numerous occassions that they aren't interested in the PS3. You really need to get a grip on yourself.KittenWishes

No offense KittenWishes, but your view on deals and business seems a little obtuse. Deals are made altered modified and changed at will.

Obviously EA's relationship is more than just a simple distributer when warranted. I just told you I had the PS3 Orange Box....Who do you think ported that, KittenWishes? Who's resources do you think were used? That's more than a simple "distributer", KittenWishes.

As you can see, my grip is fine.

Valve doesn't like the ps3 because, as someone stated before, it would cost a lot to learn thearchitecture, and would not make that much money anyway. Valve is clearly not biased toward microsoft or the 360 because they are now bringing steam to macs. The ps3 architecture is just unnecessarily complicated and to difficult to work with.

No it's not difficult. Valve has enough resources to:

1. Hire a couple employess with their SPITLOADS of money to port games themselves.

2. Get someone to do it for them like Gearbox used to do, like they did for Left 4 Dead's XBOX Version

3. Get EA to do it because EA is always desperate to put games on as many systems as possible.

The train of thought you are putting forth doesn't add up, killerfox39967. Left 4 Dead 2 would have sold 1 million units minimum on the PS3...that's 30 million dollars in revenue. Since when does any business say, "nah, we don't want to make an extra 20-30 million dollars...no thanks, extra money is whack"

Don't you understand there is more going on here?

Maybe if Sony paid Valve to make the game on PS3 they wouldn't mind. But Valve is a private small company, why should they spend their resources on a new (to them) platform with no guarantee of a return. I'd think if Sony decided to help them, I think they would gladly accept, it may that Sony hasn't taken an initiative with them, maybe Sony doesn't care for their games...

Sony doesn't pay cash for third party games.

But my point is, EA has already volunteered. EA was chomping at the bit for L4D2 PS3 version. That would have sold 1 million minimum easy. Like I said, there's a reason Valve declined, and it has absolutely nothing to do with porting ability or resources.

Mhm, I guess that makes sense. I do think people should stop saying stuff like "I bet MICRO$OFT paid them off".

People make it sound like developers are obligated to release games on their platform of choice.

Although development expenses are driving developers cross platform, who they make games for at the end of the day is still entirely up to them. Valve has low development expenses thanks to the use of their old engine, two platforms (PC/360) must be enough for them right now.

Now it's 3 platforms with their announcement of Mac development.

I mean, why not just release the game on the ps3 and expand there potential market. The ps3 must have a fairly close market share by now and its growing everyday, I can think of maybe 3 reasons why they don't: 1)They're lazy and don't wanna learn the ps3 2)They're not happy with their skill with the ps3 yet and want their first proper release on the system to be of a high standard.(hopefully) 3)(For the conspiracy lovers)Microsoft t in coalition with the reverse vampires are paying them off not to release titles for the ps3 in an effort to destroy the ps3 and eliminate the meal of dinner.killzonexbox

well.

if it makes you feel better they are steam games coming on to the MAC-surely that wil expand there market share.

I think there are more MAC users then PS3 users anyway.

:D
