Halo, COD, Borderlands, Battlefield, and Gears have been spotlighted by gamers and non gameing media alike. I have never played a KZ game but it looks awesome, but for some reason it never reaches that level of success or aknowledgement.

coorrect me if i'm missing something.

Because the first one was decent but hampered by controls and the second one this gen was all graphics no gameplay. A complete downgrade from the first game.

because it is still "fresh" in the industy......and imho..probably because it's a ps3 exclusive and ps3 exclusives (until the recent years) were not given much thought since the 360 was the lead platform...idk im gonna get flamed but thats my thought

Because the first one is garbage and you would have never heard about the series in the first place if it wasn't for graphics hype.

I don't want to play the console bar/bias game, but do you also think shooters on the PS3 get ignored. I have never played either of these games but MAG and Resistence 1 and 2 were realeased and then swept under the rug imo. I heard mag was a good game, but I have never met anyone who played it and no one talks about it online.

Bingo.. there's no originality in it. I'm saying this as a ps3 owner that own KZ3. The game borrows things from so many other games, and has no real identity of it's own.

lol , it sorta has to borrow, from other FPS as its an FPS and a great one at that. But what does originality has to do with popularity? Just look at COD and battlefield, hardly original.

Because people love to hate... Playing killzone 3 last night online was like heaven, I knew that I missed it but I didnt realize I was so addicted. IMO it is an amazing game, its got something for everyone: large scale combat, amazing graphics, vehicular combat but not so much that it ruins the game. The only problem I have is when you kill someone there is a short delay before they really die.

....to answer your question:

Because it's a blatant "me-too" shooter franchise that feels like it's trying too hard. The first one was garbage yet it was suppose to be the "Halo Killer". The second one was all about the graphics (severely overrated mind you) and had horrible controls, gameplay etc.. The third one is my favorite one because the controls for the most part have been fixed.

But saying it's my favorite is not saying much. There is hardly any story and in general the whole franchise just feels empty with no life, character or that certain zeal that makes it special. So why should gamers care? Because of the multiplayer? Sure that can add replay value but unfortunately for kz3 the multiplayer in my opinion is also hit and miss.Kz3 is respectable but as a franchise killzone gets a big "MEH" from me.

It's not very good for what it is. It's a class based shooter that requires zero team work, and has no actual focus on the classes. It needs alot of work. Single player is decent though.

there are many reasons why some people are biased against KZ2 and/or KZ3

- they cant appreciate grit and rawness. thats why they childishly call it "greyzone"

- they dont like having guns with actual weight and kickback.

- they feel obliged to hate on it, because they have aligned themselves with the xbox and/or its poster-boy series, "halo." this is a common fanboy convention to hate on games from other platorms. this also applies to some PC gamers.

- they probably got their ***es handed to them when playing through KZ2's campaign or multiplayer

- they didnt like the first game and have permanently closed their minds to the series.

- its not as mainstream as other games. thus, it doesnt sell as much. and thus it doesnt receive as favorable reviews. Reviews these days are more about marketing and less about the games themselves.

- they havent played it

Because its all flash and no substance. Most sony games focus too much on presentation and not enough on gameplay. 360 games are the opposite.

bull****

1) how many other sci fi FPS games are there these days where you are at war with other humans/humanoids? not many.

2) how many other FPS games have the grit and extremely harsh environments that killzone 2 and 3 have? not many.

3) how many sci fi FPS are there where you hardly use any energy weapons?

4) how many sci fi FPS games are there where you are invading an enemy planet, not the other way around?

5) the "helghast" are one of the most unique factions to really come into their own this gen.

6) the size and scope of the conflict in the KZ2 and KZ3 vastly outweigh pretty much anything else on the market right now.

7) KZ2 was one of the first FPS games this gen to really capitalize on a cover system

8 ) the villains of the killzone games are some of the most memorable ever. Malcolm Mcdowell steals the show in KZ3.

9) KZ3's jetpacks are different than pretty much any jetpack in FPS game history.

KZ3 brings lots of its own things to the table and when you blend it all together, its one of the most unique series this gen.

its certainly more original than halo or crysis. whether or not you like those series, you have to admit that their concepts and styles are contrived and cliche as hell.

You should play other games besides the ones Sony releases. You know, many of those points reek of denial and damage control.

Especially point 6, that really makes me think that not only you don't play anything other than PS3 games but that you aren't even in the slightest informed about non-PS3 games.

Because KZ1 was a game THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN but barely delivered, due to limited technology at the time.

The plot should have been fleshed out more with KZ2.

And judging from the reviews of KZ3 (haven't played it yet), it seems the story has been a complete let down.

Overall, based upon my experience with KZ 1 & 2, the series is NOT that bad as people make it out to be. I LOVE the SP experience, gameplay and shooting mechanics, and I'd rather take the series any day against any of the overhype FPS out there, especially CoD games.

Eh, there is a fairly easy answer to that question TC.

Behind graphics, sound and looks (artistic) thre needs to be a stong fundament of gameplay, any game that is all flash and no substance dies off fast.

Now Kz2 and 3 are fairly interresting, Kz2 does have sort of a gameplay idendity, and it works fairly well. You can feel how they took a good long look at "what is cool in the industry today" and made thier game to talow the "now" But it did have a different feel, ironically the weight of the weapons/movement put alot of gamers off (you know, the kind of people who thinks rifles are these odd laser weapons, where the bullets reach the target as soon as you pull the trigger, no recoil, and gravity has no effect).

Anyways, Kz2 was a love or hate game. It was atleast Kz2!

Kz3 went the "me too" route completely, tryied to please everyone, and thus ended up pleasing no one, it is an identityless game, that feels and plays like every other of that kind of game, what little identity and gameplay Kz2 could call its own, was torn out in favor of a broader mass appeal.

Thus making me outright hate it. (Kz3, not 2)

I honestly can't figure out how it scored aswell as it did, goes to show that hype, and a big name behind it, can raise any games score.

Ignore the reviews as far as the story being a *let down*. The presentation is substantially better in Killzone 3 than in Killzone 2, like other shooters it has it's share of cheesy moments and bad dialogue, but the idea that the story was "called out" by certain review sites is laughably off the mark to me. I see alot of people perpetuating that as well, that never play the game. If anything I thought the story was a strength of the 3rd game. That is not to say it was anything particularly amazing, but basically you have nicely rendered cut-scenes, great voice actors, mixed with some occasionally cheesy dialogue and "over the top" moments. Still, just with having polished scenes with top-notch voice acting that's better than 90% of video games right there.

I haven't ventured much into multiplayer yet, but I was a bit disappointed they took out server browsers and custom games. It plays about the same as KZ2, but the whole experience seems alot more streamlined and oversimplified (i.e. COD-ized). I'm hoping that over time they add a bunch of multiplayer features back in.

Because it is your average run of the mill next-gen shooter with the usual bells and whistles. And people already have Cod for that, so a game will have to be different to get noticed and sell.

But that said, I too am perplexed why KZ couldn't get attention when the halo series, which is the definition of mediocrity(except the first game) gets so much of it. I mean it's not fair that one meh game is like christmas come early to reviewers, while the other is given a kind comment or two and then cast aside.

I play games outside of the PS3. I guarantee that whatever you game you probably have in your head, I have played and I will probably disagree with you.

no other FPS game I have played has matched the level of punchy intensity that killzone 2 and 3 offer. you have buildings falling apart around you. there are ships battling and exploding above you, crashing into buildings, sending debris crashing into the streets. there are explosions and mortars going off around you sending dirt or snow into the air. the constant explosions cause your character to sway, which effects your aim. various pieces of the environment come apart on a regular basis. the weathering effects and apocalyptic settings really put you into the experience of war. you are put in firefights where you are hopelessly outnumbered and everything seems to be in chaos. the raider turret segments in KZ3 are just mindblowing in scale and the sheer amount of destruction you cause.

above all, there is a whole lot more going on during the battle sequences in Killzone 2 and 3, than other FPS games out there. The care for detail put into the action sequences in the killzone games is truly exquisite. few people take the time to appreciate it.

some of it's probably poor marketing, and IMO also the developer's insecurity about their own product. I remember what the head of Guerilla said in 2007, while they were working on KZ2. "We're not interested in what other shooters are doing, we just want to make the best game we can"

compare that to KZ3 today.

Or someone just legitimately didn't like it. Not everyone is in on whatever anti-Killzone conspiracy you think exists.

If it goes the path of killzone 3 it will never be reconised. Games are supposed to go forward, not backward.

I found the second one mediocre to say the least. The third one was worst.

The first game didn't take the industry by storm like for example, Halo.

It's not as easy to get into and multiplatform like for example, Call of Duty.

Bingo.. there's no originality in it. I'm saying this as a ps3 owner that own KZ3. The game borrows things from so many other games, and has no real identity of it's own.

I've never played KZ2 or 3 but this is exactly the impression I got from what I've seen of them. I'm sure the games are decent on their own merits but they appear to have very little that makes them stand out from the already overcrowded FPS market.

I personally found the games to be pretty dull. I enjoyed KZ2 more than KZ3 though. Halfway through KZ3, I started thinking about other games to trade it in for after I beat it. I beat it just for the trophies and then promptly traded it in for Heavy Rain. And yes, I played the MP as well and it was ok.

I personally didn't like Killzone 2. Although Killzone 3 was slightly better then Killzone 2 I thought they borrowed to many elements from other games.

Nothing really eye catching. At a quick glance, many people will feel like it's another CoD. And all the brogamers will stick to CoD for their fix. Also, the first one wasn't considered good by people, so that certainly killed some interest in the series altogether.

Because it's just not that good?

Personally I couldn't finish either KZ2 or KZ3 they just became to boring. Of course just my opinion, but you asked.
