Why cant you play as Germans in WW2 shooters ?

Its simply bad taste. Its not good for devs to go out of there way to make a game allowing you to play as one of the most controversial and well disrespected groups of people ever. Its not a subject devs want to screw with and for good reason. Its not even something most people (regardless of origin) want to talk about, let alone playalong sidein a game.

and another thing, people seem to forget that more than just Germany and Japan were with the Axis forces, Finland fought off VASTLY Superior Russian army's in many battles during the winter war.

Well you can play as germans in DOD\DOD S but thats a multiplayer game not a SP.

Their the entire reason the war started yet in all the WW2 games I remember you play as soldiers from

1.The United States of America (crowd cheers)

2.The United Kingdom (ehh there ok)

Is is because developers think it wouldnt be fun playing as the losing side of the war or something ?

You have already been answered around 100 times. It is a a subject far too delicate for a video game. /thread.

If you want to know why it is that delicate go to the Off-Topic forum or AskYahoo or Wikipedia or whereever you want just not here in System Wars.

Why not have a COD where you play as German fighting on the eastern front? who cares what Russia says. Brits,Americans or Canadians are not getting killed.

that is a very true statement, and the only way to get rid of that stereotype would quite possibly be a game where you the player are swept u in hatred at the beggining of the war, fight as a new recruit the the blitz, become a veteran of the west/east front, have your experience beat by superior allied numbers, forced into a surrender at the turn of the war, and end the game in one of the many POW camps where German soldiers were forced to watch movies about the holocaust they unknowingly defended. it CAN be done tastefully in the right hands especially if it is NOT made into an arcade shooter

There would be a lot of controversy if that happened, which is a shame. It would be interesting to play on the side of what most people would consider the enemy. We don't see that many games where you play as a Taliban or anything like that. Also I wouldn't blatantly say that the entire War was of the result of the Germans.

the more i think about it, the more i think it could make a great game if it was done correctly.

like, if it had different paths based on your moral actions. one could lead to you advancing through the ranks to be hitler's right hand man, another could have you learn of the genocide, then you decide to help the enemy instead. then a few inbetween paths
