I never played Skyrim, so I can't comment on whether the game is good or not, though I can't help but feel that some may have been throwing out 9-10 scores over the fact that the game has a SUPER LARGE WORLD where you can YELL AT DRAGONS WHICH IS SUPER MANLY. GOTY MATERIAL HERE.

The problem is while that sounds awsome in concept it gets old with-in the second or third dragon. Unlike (for example) Dark Souls with big enemies being varied and feeling special, Dragons in Skyrim become the same thing, over and over and over. Any magic they had on first apperence, quickly dissipates. Like every Bethesda title, it's an excerice in manotony.
Yep. The funnest thing in Skyrim was exploring the world and f*cking around, NOT roleplaying, mind you, which is what the game is supposed to be - a RPG.Because the Honeymoon period wore off and people realised just how shit it really was
Terrible mission design, awful AWFUL characters NPCs dialogue, Shitty old animations, clunky combat, boring enemies, really poor dungeons that were all the same
The only thing Skyrim did right was the environments and world itself. Everything inside of that world though is pretty bad

Skyrim's biggest fault is letting you see and do everything in one single playtrhough. You can become the head of all the guilds or factions in the land and no one rises up against you for betraying the other. It killed the replay value in the game for me
It also has a really poor skill tree and upgrade system that defies actual role playing. Why carve my own path when I can just play all the paths
Rocker6
Good point... they should've kept the old Morrowind system, where you had skill requirments to join and progress the faction storylines, so a mage character couldn't progress in the Fighter's Guild, or vice versa.
Also, it was neat how some faction storyline could pit you against the other one.
I actually kind of dislike that idea as I enjoy being both a fighter and a mage at the same time (which is my preferred playstyIe in both Oblivion and Skyrim, I just feel like having a balance of both standard combat and magic is the best way to survive).how come demons soul/dark souls isn't hated?Anything that becomes popular or succesfull wil be hated on by people of a certain ilk. It's a herd mentality.Â

As for the Skyrim hate, well, I do have some complaints with glitches and some bugs, but I don't hate it. I actually like the game a lot.nintendoboy16
Lots of people do. "Hate" is just the buzzword for criticizing attitude. According to these degenerates I'd be a hater even if I have put 300 hours in Skyrim.

action/adventure would probably be more accurate.
It has alot of flaws and glitches but who the heck hates the game?
I liked it and though i never finished it ( can you actually finish it ?) i enjoyed it both times i played it (once vanilla the other with mods ) though both times at about level 50 and after 40-50 hours it got a bit boring and stopped ( cant complain though since 50hours for a play through is really long ). Also i plan starting it again soon with a different sets of mods
Fallout: New Vegas shits all over Skyrim.
People bash Skyrim because its boring. They even managed to make becoming a goddamn Werewolf boring.

This... also, I'd really love if they limited the scope of the game, have a smaller game world with less dungeons and places, but have most of them unique and varied, wih some small side stories, special pieces of loot that are actually useful, etc.
Bethesda RPGs like Skyrim and Oblivion are big for the sake of being big, while I'd much prefer if the design revolved over quality, instead of quantity.
Oh, and they should also finally make the jump animations look good, they're consistently atrocious! :P
seanmcloughlin
Yep, I made a video talking about how Skyrim is big for the sake of being big and the whole mission and fast travel system they implemented completely trivialises the open world aspect of it
It's impressive to see a world that big but when it's just there for the sake of it and the game doesn't utilise it properly then it's pretty bad. It's why I am worrying a bit about TW3 going full open world with a similar fast travel mechanic
I also don't really like the fast travel mechanic. It's not like I want to take the hour-long hike across the map every time I want to go somewhere, either, though. I think the system Bethesda put into Morrowind with the Mages Guild portals, boats, and flying bug things is the best method of fast travel in an open world game. Really, almost everything Bethesda did with Morrowind was better than Oblivion and Skyrim. The combat and environments have been improved greatly, but the role playing elements are almost nonexistent now. It's been fashionable for quite a while to bash Skyrim for various reasons (getting rid of inane skills, not being deep enough, not having a strong central story, etc etc). Some criticisms I've found to be quite valid; for instance, I don't see why Bethesda found it necessary to remove skill points, but most are asinine. Skyrim might not have a strong central storyline, but it has a ton of interesting side quests. My personal favorite was the onewhere you find an abandoned light tower and slowly discover how the residents heard movment in their basement, and eventually went down their to find a nest of monsters infecting it. It was badass. Games like New Vegas have better storylines, but Bethesda has the exploration element nailed down.
Oblivion had like 50+ side quests that were just as good,if not better. My personal favorite was the onewhere you find an abandoned light tower and slowly discover how the residents heard movment in their basement, and eventually went down their to find a nest of monsters infecting it. It was badass.

Multi-classing has always been a thing (it gets really complicated in D&D), but you have to give up *something* in order to have a sword and magic. And I'm sure a Battlemage would never have the skills needed to lead either a fighter's guild or mages guild. They would be promoted as high as a command position, and never high enough. Like, would you rather have Gandalf leading the mages guild, with knowledge about every facet of magic, or some guy who gave up some magical ability/knowledge to use a sword?
i diagree. im having a blast with skyrim .i got it on sale and its a great game. Level 45 Dark Elf Vampire Lord - over 200 hours playedBecause it's shit.

The thing about Skyrim is that it is a fantastic game that did deserve game of the year, but It has a false reputation of being a fantastic RPG. Skyrim is a very shallow and mediocre example of an RPG. It's storytelling is crap, the quests are unimaginitive, and it's leveling is horrifically simplified. It gets bashed on by real gamers who have actually played RPG's besides Oblivion and Skyrim. Bro gamers who only play Skyrim, Fallout, and Mass Effect don't know what they're talking about.
That said, the reason that Skyrim is still a fantastic game despite these flaws is because it is a great example of gaming at it's best: an escape from reality. You can lose yourself in Skyrim just exploring for hours or doing any number of things to pass the time.
TL;DR: Fantastic game, crappy RPG.
Bethesda is the only game company that relies on the mod community to make a decent game for themnarutosup

Mods make it look decent. Not amazing, decent. Regardless, the gameplay (like pretty much all obsidian titles) is leagues better.
[QUOTE="heretrix"]This! Nothing this gen even comes close.Fuk the haters, Skyrim is awesome.

At what? :/
sad / butthurt people always bash stuff when it gets popular. sts106matLooks like lemmings accept any game these days as good.
Because it wasn't very good, and I played the best version. It felt empty, shallow, lifeless and wasn't immersive at all. Magic was useless, the cities were small, the guild quests were awful, the dungeons were painfully linear and worst of all they were populated exclusively by Draugr.
Because it's shit.

He has a mario sigIt had a looooooong honeymoon period where I thought the game was the most amazing thing EVER.
It took me about 150 hours to realize it was as much an RPG as the first Zelda was on the NES. I could choose what order I wanted to do the quests/dungeons in but that was about it.
I've typed out my reasons for becoming disillusioned with Skyrim multiple times, but for now I'll simply type something that I've heard several people say about Skyrim.
Wide as an ocean, deep as puddle.
Becasue console peasents are unable to mod so they flock to the next "Big Thing". I still play Skyrim, ofcourse with balance mods, and graphics mods.
It seems like any game that tries to break free of old school RPG Elements is no longer considered and RPG. Well I disagree, eversince the genre made its way to video games it hasn't really taken advantage of the medium, but Mass Effect Really is trying to change that with each release. The thing about Skyrim is that it is a fantastic game that did deserve game of the year, but It has a false reputation of being a fantastic RPG.
