Nearly every single game on PC? Good lord, have you ever gamed on PC? I just installed Ori and the Blind Forest last week and I am running it at a native 3860x2160 (4K for those not familiar with resolutions). Nearly every single game I have is running natively WELL OVER your 1440.
@Legend002: Xcom 2 for example, AAAE and PC has had more AAAE's this year than ps4, infact pc got 4 within what was it 3 weeks or so?
And seriously google how resolutions works because your "upscaling" is nothing short of laughable
Here let me give you a puzzle: You have a 1440p monitor and take your random game that has resolutions available in options above 1920x1080(this is literally every game on this century), then play the game with 1080p selected in options then change to 1440p and it doesn't look the same, why?
You really are going out of your way to make yourself look like a clueless fool
@howmakewood: You don't know how resolution works. You are probably one of those people that turns on Sonic on PC and call it 1080p native.
Okay humour me, how do you see games "native" resolution on PC and why dont games look the same on 1080p and 1440p on a 1440p monitor as it's just "upscaled"

Let's see if he argues with Arstechnica, lol

Aside from the benefits of a larger workspace, or increased sharpness with desktop scaling, the PC—and not the console—is the only place where you can game at native 4K

Upscale resolution is an upgrade but it isn't native. Compare 1080p PS3 titles versus 360(which upscales everything to 1080p) upscaled 1080p for example. The difference will be apparent.

Why would I compare anything in this discussion on consoles? We are speaking of PC GAMES
I know well how consoles work, I am just questioning your bullshit on PC
@kvally: Those games weren't developed natively at 4K. Full 1080p development is expensive as it. You think 4K is feasible when consoles can't even reach that fidelity which EA relies on most for profit? Please.
Dude, you keep just burying yourself deeper and deeper. STOP. You are not only embarrassing yourself, but the PC community as a whole. The majority of PC games are NATIVE HIGHER than 1440. Those are FACTS. If you dispute the truth, lol, feel free to disprove it to the rest of us. Dis gunna be good.
Ok let me just set this straight, you set the game to 1440p resolution on the game settings and the game outputs NATIVE 1440p RENDER to your 1440p monitor, you set it to 1080p in the options and it gets UPSCALED to your 1440p screen.
You are free to count the pixels, because it's just like that
Are you honestly saying that you need 980ti instead of 970 to UPSCALE a game to run on 1440p
@kvally: actually....not every single game on PC. Older games unless updated don't have new resolutions and even then you have to have the PC to run games at those resolutions. Not everyone has that kind of PC.
Once again this is an example of PC gamers declaring universal graphics when 2 posts from now the talk will be about how PC gaming can have everything from cheap parts to really expensive parts.

I dont think any1 here claimed that the old games support those resolutions, new ones however do. What kind of PC's people have is completely irrelevant to the discussion that's going on it. But feel free to spout some nonsense
@howmakewood: what the **** do you think "every PC game" includes?
Only games you choose?
That's not how this works.
And since OC is an open platform and many ppl don't have the hardware to run games at high resolutions your generalizations are shit.
So it is relevant.
Let the grown ups talk for now.
@mr_huggles_dog: Ok can you with a straight face say that most PC games from 2010+ or so do not support resolutions higher than 1080p? I merely pointed how absurd the shit he is speaking about native pc resolutions in games
And @Legend002 why dont you try googling for something like "native resolution in pc games" and see what comes up?
once again pc games render on the resolution you set in the game options.
@mr_huggles_dog: Brah. He thinks native 3840x2160 AAA title exist.... and it's common. lmao
Humour me how does PC games 4K image get rendered
I'll be back in an hour or so you have time to prepare a good story

They'll call it native because it's an option they'll support but that doesn't make it "native". No games are developed at 4K from the get go. They are merely scaled.
@howmakewood: passed 2010?
Pretty sure most if not all games at least support 1080p.
But that's not what was said.
Just clarifying.
They'll call it native because it's an option they'll support but that doesn't make it "native". No games are developed at 4K from the get go. They are merely scaled.
Not sure what you mean, are you saying that developers don't use 4k monitors when developing? And how do you actually know the game hasn't been developed at 4k?
Okay so can we start listing 3d pc games that have 1440p as supported resolution but don't "natively" run on it when set so on the options?
New 3d games with locked resolution are also welcome
this old image shows upscaling works btw https://imgur.com/clfPV3w
and that's not something that happens on PC when the game supports the actual resolution
PC games don't upscale because they don't have a set resolution (most 3D games anyway). They are able to render the same image in a variety of resolutions without losing quality but at the cost of performance for higher resolutions.
so @Legend002 can you explain how this works as clearly nobody else knows, some sources would be welcome too
well OP since you brought up PC in a graphics comparison of consoles you are doing nothing but trying start yet another attempt at TROLLING and flame-bait..People have talked about graphics since blip on a screen. Its how we go about advancing graphics. Its the most noticeable thing we have in a game..THEN comes controls..its just how it goes. AND yes..Consoles DO have great visuals and have as long as any pc game..Saying otherwise is nothing but more trolling and useless arguing..
Don't generalize like that, it's not true. It's one faction here that's mainly the culprits and most know precisely which one that is. lol :P
No, both sets of fanboys suck.
Huh, both sets you say?
Humor me, which ones was I talking about, hems, lems, sheep or cows? That's four by the way... just sayin. :P
There's actually three. There's Nintendo fanboys, PC fanboys, and the Xbox One/PS4 Civil War amalgam that don't realize they're the same people.
I don't care that they talk about the graphics, I don't get why they cop out when the PC gets involved with the 'it's about the games' bs. What is that?

If you honestly believe this and aren't just trolling, I have to ask: How do you think supersampling works?
720p vs 1080p is serious business especially when both console are at the same price.
Resolution only ever counts where consoles are concerned. The moment 1440p or 4k is mentioned, resolution no longer matters.
Because no game natively 1440p or beyond. They are up scaled on PC. 1080p is still the standard... or should be in Xbox's case. You won't see 1440p+ native resolution until consoles catch up since AAA developments funded by the console market.
Ori and the blind forest supports native 4k.
http://www.pcgamer.com/ori-and-the-blind-forest-4k-screenshot-gallery/
@phantomfire335: Development cycle, cost. 4K still isn't really feasible.
Are you trying to say that the character models, textures etc. are made at a lower resolution and upscaled to higher than 1080p? Cause i'm pretty sure it's the opposite, for like nearly everygame.

You are getting confused, "Native Resolution" is reffering to the fixed resolution of an LCD or whatever display. Native Resolution has nothing to do with the in game assets. That is just the resolution of the assets. There is no such thing as native resolution of the assets in game. You are using the term incorrectly.

He's a PS4 fanboy. He isn't trolling, they just copy and paste random wikipedia graphics lingo and put "gfx king" at the end.

How is that trolling? Have you seen what these guys are posting but I'm the troll. You sound like a salty console peasant

Are you dumb? The native bs you keep spouting about only applies to consoles. PC can output 1080p, 1440p and 2160p. Skyrim with mods even have 8k textures and which run perfectly fine on PC.
@howmakewood: what the **** do you think "every PC game" includes?

You keep repeating this bs everytime you open your mouth about many gamers on PC can't run blah blah blah. F*** *** if 99.99% of pc population can't run the games at that resolution, I don't care. I can run it, so I don't give a shit. Let the grown ups talk and go to your basement.
@l0ngshot: YOU are not the General OC gaming community.
I'm sorry you're upset that it's the truth and doesn't reflect PC gaming perfectly.
@kvally: @phantomfire335: @GarGx1: Name one.
Open these in a new tab and zoom in for full screen, see the one that doesn't fit on your 1080p monitor that's a 1440p image from the game. Now look at the bottom left corner at the frame rates, notice anything different? That's right if the image was up-scaled there would be no frame rate drop but for some reason there is, perhaps that's because the screen is being rendered at 1440p by the graphics card? Now stop making yourself look like a complete ignoramus.
Consoles are not PC's, we don't have to put up with what Sony and MS decide are acceptable.

Dude, don't get into an argument defending someone who's either a troll and/or an idiot, especially by nit picking statements.
@l0ngshot: YOU are not the General OC gaming community.
I'm sorry you're upset that it's the truth and doesn't reflect PC gaming perfectly.
Funny enough you haven't mentioned only "2% of the PC population can run the games at 1080p resolution". The same bs you keep typing over and over again. I'm not upset, I don't like ignorant trolls.

nope. 1080p upscaled
