[QUOTE="ROLFCHANK"] that article doesnt seem to say anything about hd dvd being dead. blu ray is beating hd in sales 52% to 48%? doesnt seem like that big of a deal. anyway, who cares about this format war yet? not i.

In LTD sales of the format which is significant considering the price discrepancy and the fact Blu-Ray launched months later with lukewarm titles. The actual sales month-by-month are over 2:1 in the US...by far the biggest market at this point, HD-DVD isn't even around in Japan and the European movie numbers are too small effect that ratio. Casino Royale broke the Top 10 on the Amazon charts, the first time a high-def movie has done so...it even beat out one of the DVD versions. The rankings of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD when placed side by side on that site are amazing...one site has the average ranking of Blu-Ray titles at something like 200 and the average ranking of HD-DVD titles at around 1100 right now. Heck..that report doesn't even count Walmart which I'm sure would make the gap in sales even more so in Blu-Ray's favor.

i guess you simply forgot about WB re-releasing many, many of their older titles on hd dvd...

meanwhile you're simply counting new releases....

ps... porn is backing hd dvd...buh bye bluray..;)

it wouldn't hurt you to do a bit more research before posting again...;)

Two very major porn companies are releasing stuff on the format and that sector is largely irrelevant now anyways. There are far cheaper ways to get far more porn than the next-gen optical formats. The sales numbers do not reflect your argument, if Blu-Ray continues to outpace HD-DVD in this way and the numbers increase enough Universal will be forced to switch sides and then the format war will REALLY be over.

Don't bother arguing with the master of self ownage,  he still can't explain why Blu-Ray outsold HD-DVD 2-1 for 2 months running.

No. I'm a bit brighter than that. Porn is primarily an Internet-based thing. Unless you happen to enjoy walking into seedy video stores and letting everyone see your face.

Do you really think the movie studios will go supporting to formats? And that is even more expensive than a single BR player which are going down in price.

yeah, cause its not going to go down in price either

By the time most people can afford an hdtv, there is a pretty good chance that most people could afford this too.

... In case you're wondering, that player is meant for people who have already purchased HD-DVD content and still wish to remain compatible with the most likely winner of the format war. Good going.

That player is severly gimped. It cannot fully make use of all of HD-DVD's features. It's reviews have been less than stellar.

Next Gen pc vendors are adopting blu ray drives not hd drives from what ive seen at alienware and velocity micro. So pc games will be blu ray in the future . Ps3 games = blu ray. Next gen medium for gaming and movies = blu ray. Hd-dvd is toast imo.

yup, more major movie studios support blu ray then do hd-dvd. I think it was like 5 out of 8 support blu ray or something vs 3 out of 8 for hd. I forget exact #s but something like that.

I have a HD-DVD player but it seems all the good movies are going to blueray. Casino Royle, Crank... Does anyone know which format 300 will be on? Just came to theaters but would be a blueray player just to see it in HD.

Of the majors Fox, Sony(MGM, Colombia, Tristar, etc), and Disney-Buena Vista exclusively support Bluray. Universal exclusively supports HD-DVD. Paramount and Warner support both.

Almost positive Blu-Ray.

The movie is made by Warner Bros. They support both HD-DVD and Bluray.

I say we check back in two years and we'll see. However... I think traditional DVDs have the advantage now... both Blu-ray and HD-DVD are too expensive for most consumers now.

You can't watch Pixar films, Disney Films, Spider-Man films, or Rocky or play games on HD-DVD...

Blu-Ray may not be a better disc, but it has better support, so what's the use of using a better disc if there's nothing to watch/play with it?

HD-DVD is destined to die... why do we need to discuss this?

I was just wondering why Blue-Ray is so hyped up..... i mean iv heard it cant be read from as fast as a HD-DVD, and i know it has more space... but i dont think games developers could actually fill all that space up. But im not too smart so please tell me which one you like and why.

P.S. im not a Microsoft fanboy.... I have a PC, and a DS Lite... Im neutral!

Next Gen pc vendors are adopting blu ray drives not hd drives from what ive seen at alienware and velocity micro. So pc games will be blu ray in the future . Ps3 games = blu ray. Next gen medium for gaming and movies = blu ray. Hd-dvd is toast imo.

while alienware, dell, and velocity micro may have blu-ray in their computers, hd dvd drives can be found in computers from hewlett-packard(HP), samsung, acer, LG, toshiba, and fujitsu. also, companies that were once blu-ray exclusive are now making hd dvd products, example, samsung, HP, and LG. apple, once blu-ray exclusive, is as of now undecided about what format to use. also, china is producing hd dvd players that cost less than those sold here in america and will soon be here, example of one such company is lite-on. china has chosen to use hd dvd with their own codec because it cost less to produce, all you have to do is change the codec and you can sell the hardware and software anywhere in the world. europe, as of now, has hd dvd leading the market with 85% . hd dvd's don't have region coding meaning any hd dvd bought anywhere in the world can be played using an hd dvd player from another part of the world. example, and hd dvd from america can be played on an austrailian hd dvd player.

i hope that at least one blu-ray fanboy can answer this, if the bda has 2 million blu-ray players on the market while the dvd forum only has 250,000 hd dvd players on the market, then why is blu-ray only outselling hd dvd by 2:1 instead of 5:1 or higher?

dvd forum expects to have 600 hd dvd titles by years end. this is in addition to the current 300 titles already available.even though these releases are for europe and not here in the states, since hd dvd's are region free
(unlike blu-ray that has 3 different regions), they can be added to u.s. hd dvd titles.

i don't expect hd dvd to fail anytime soon. there will not be a clear winner until 2008, but until then bith formats will be going strong with the hd dvd group looking to reclaim the number 1 position that was usurped by the bda.

Because it takes time for people to adopt new technology, Note your pc vendors comparison Alienware , Dell xps, Velocity micro pc's = Pc's built for gaming. Samsung , Hp, apple those are more like multimedia pc's. HD-dvd drives have yet to do anything for gaming....at all.

wow, dude, you just self-owned yourself. gaming pc's use cd's and dvd's for games not blu-ray. blu-ray for pc gaming is a moot point. the reason they sell it is because they support blu-ray and want to raise the blu-ray hardware sales. also, people with gaming pc's also watch movies, not just play games, also a reason blu-ray is in their computers. a better way to blu-ray in computers is to make them an option for computers starting at $1000, not computers starting at $3000.

edit:
dell supports blu-ray but it can't be added to there computers at this time. alienware has it as a $900 dollar option for the aurora 7500 which has a $1,799 base price. HP provides hd dvd as $250 dollar option for the m7790y desktop computer which has a $929 base price. both otical drives are options and are read only. (note: the blu-ray drive provide dvd burning but the blu-ray portion is READ ONLY, ie, you cannot burn blu-ray disks, even though blu-ray is 2x. it's 2x because even sony said movies need to be on 1.5x disks and drives in order to function as it should.)

the Toshiba HD-A20 (noy to be confused with the HD-A2) and the HD-XA2 both offer native 1080p output. the hd dvd add-n also has native 1080p output provided your using VGA cables. the component cable for the add-on only outouts up to 1080i.

I have a HD-DVD player but it seems all the good movies are going to blueray. Casino Royle, Crank... Does anyone know which format 300 will be on? Just came to theaters but would be a blueray player just to see it in HD.xXHackettXx

Just a little FYI...CRANK is a horrifically bad movie. Even for a movie that doesn't attempt to be good its bad. Bad bad bad. It stinks not getting SPIDERMAN or CASINO ROYALE yes but CRANK? No. I haven't bought a next-gen HD player yet because I don't have the time or setup right now to enjoy it. But my brother had STIR OF ECHOES blu-ray and it was a terrible transfer with hardly any extra features. He had KING KONG on his HD-DVD and it looked awesome with real time video commentary. They keep short changing the blu-ray discs when it comes to features. They might do it with some of the HD-DVD discs as well but apparently Sony screwed up when it came to supporting the right codecs and whatnot. Still early on in the race. Neither format sells worth a squat compared to DVD.

they support it but they can't use it for gaming because blu-ray is not the optical standard. they only system to use it for gaming purposes is the ps3 and even then it's not as good as the 12x dvd drive in the 360 because the data transfer is not as fast hance why ps3 games have to install on the ps3 before you can play them. and yes you are self owned because you were alluding to the use of blu-ray as gaming medium for the pc. as far as pc gaming is concerned, dvd will be the standard until there's a next gen optical winner; there's no point to use one of the new optical formats and have the medium you chose become obsolete. also, not everyone has hd dvd or blu-ray for their pc's and most are not willing to buy one until there is a clear winner.

on a personal note, you did not provide any links or proof to what you said. you did not reubtt anything i said. thus, you merely provided your opinion. you were also defensive in your response meaning you know you got self owned and are afraid admit it.

Your wrong , dvd9 transfer rate is 5x slower then blu ray , i really dont want to argue... Pointless since Hd- dvd isnt used for gaming , while blu ray is. Ive already done the posting links to show these facts months ago on a similar thread , dont really feel like repeating the process. Your like way off the subject of the post man. He ask why blu ray is hyped up......Because its used for gaming and will be used for gaming in pc's imo....its all good.

(note: the blu-ray drive provide dvd burning but the blu-ray portion is READ ONLY, ie, you cannot burn blu-ray disks, even though blu-ray is 2x. it's 2x because even sony said movies need to be on 1.5x disks and drives in order to function as it should.)

whats your point here ....... Alienware and velocity micro ....known for gaming systems support blu ray ....ps3 already uses blu ray for gaming ........ self 0wned pfft...hd dvd used for movies still even if we were to look at hd-dvd vs blu ray purely for movie aspects. Blu ray still has superior data transfer rate and capacity....self owned ? Come on.

they support it but they can't use it for gaming because blu-ray is not the optical standard. they only system to use it for gaming purposes is the ps3 and even then it's not as good as the 12x dvd drive in the 360 because the data transfer is not as fast hance why ps3 games have to install on the ps3 before you can play them. and yes you are self owned because you were alluding to the use of blu-ray as gaming medium for the pc. as far as pc gaming is concerned, dvd will be the standard until there's a next gen optical winner; there's no point to use one of the new optical formats and have the medium you chose become obsolete. also, not everyone has hd dvd or blu-ray for their pc's and most are not willing to buy one until there is a clear winner.

on a personal note, you did not provide any links or proof to what you said. you did not reubtt anything i said. thus, you merely provided your opinion. you were also defensive in your response meaning you know you got self owned and are afraid admit it.

blu-ray good for gaming?: link

Your wrong , dvd9 transfer rate is 5x slower then blu ray , i really dont want to argue... Pointless since Hd- dvd isnt used for gaming , while blu ray is. Ive already done the posting links to show these facts months ago on a similar thread , dont really feel like repeating the process. Your like way off the subject of the post man. He ask why blu ray is hyped up......Because its used for gaming and will be used for gaming in pc's imo....its all good.

no links = no proof. no proof = self owned. blu-ray isn't popular because it's used in gaming. it's popular because its advertised more than hd dvd. blu-ray will not be used for pc games because dvd is sufficient. games like half-life 2, doom 3, fear, and crysis are all on ( or in the case of crysis, will be on ) dvd. just because your a blu-ray fan and want hd dvd to fail so that you can justify you waste $600, doesn't in any way, shape or form mean that you're right. in other words, you fail.

[QUOTE="Me_Ur_Daddy_"][QUOTE="Spartan070"][QUOTE="2largeadults"] ... That wasn't an opinion pal. Here's the link form since you aren't the sharpest crayon in the box: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2104850,00.asp

Attempt to be sly = 79% failure rate. Neither format is in immeadiate danger of dying = 97% correct.

sorry hddvd is already dead, being outsold like 4 to 1[QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]I forgot to add, althought 200GB eight layered BD is in the works, i think ultimately HD-DVD will come out on top. It's cheaper to make and cheaper to buy so i think it will catch on like VHS. Plus the average joe will associate "HD" with "DVD" and come up with "HD-DVD" :D When they might not even know what Blu-Ray is.

P.S. I've also heard of a four-layered HD-DVD with 60GB and maybe an eight-layered version with 120GB.

its not that much cheaper to make and production cost for bluray are dropping fast, i dont know what kind of hope you are holding onto that ur hd-dvd add on for ur 360 will ever come into heavy use or as much use as a bluray player, but im sorry MS got you to pay $200 for it. my condolinces for ur 200 bux, RIP $200, im sure he misses you

Mate, 4:1 = dying or owned but not dead. If HD-DVD was dead it would be selling 0 and the ratio would be infinite.

It has nearly universal major studio support. But it's not DVD.
