BluRay winning this format war is probably the worse thing that could happen to the consumer.

Having a major movie studio(s) owner and producer owning the means that give them the power to dictate how movies will be played, where they can be played, and rights of the actual movie is downright disgusting.

Not to take away from the capabilities of BluRay, I think both HD-DVD and BluRay are quite comparible, but now a major movie studio (Sony) ownes the means on how you can play/own/distrubute your BluRay movies.  This is very bad for the consumer, regardless of what fanboys on this site tells you.

Uhm...both formats support resolutions up to 1080P, do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Blu-Rays do not play in 720p, leaving most of us without 1080p sets to watch movies in 1080i. I own both an HD-DVD add on and a ps3. A little research never hurt, btw.

You might want to do a little research as well. Stand alone Bluray players can play BD's in 720p.

that's only for the ps3. standalone blu-ray players output 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.

Beta is a little different. Beta was better quality than VHS but it had less duration. So if anything HD DVD is the beta of the past because of its lack of storage. Blu-ray's much larger storage not only offers higher quality but it also offers more duration. So Blu-ray is almost like a VHS-Beta hybrid in comparison; the best features of both squared and none of their flaws along with next-gen technology.

wrong. betamax lost because it cost more than vhs, just like blu-ray now. the movies maybe around the same price but the lowest cost hd dvd player is $400 while the cheapest blu-ray player is $600 (not the ps3, a standalone player.)

Once again your wrong,  the cheapest HD-DVD player is $276 - $10 dollars with Google checkout.  Even with shipping and taxes included, it's still under $300.  You even get 5 free HD-DVD movies with the purchase of a standalone HD-DVD player,  thats a value of $100-$150 dollars in movies.

I was just wondering why Blue-Ray is so hyped up..... i mean iv heard it cant be read from as fast as a HD-DVD, and i know it has more space... but i dont think games developers could actually fill all that space up. But im not too smart so please tell me which one you like and why.

P.S. im not a Microsoft fanboy.... I have a PC, and a DS Lite... Im neutral!

it doesn't matter which one you like hd-dvd is finished check the news

ROFL all you BD owners keep saying HD-DVD is finished. But it couldn't be further from the truth.

The truth is TOTAL BD sales finally match TOTAL HD-DVD sales. They are basically neck and neck. How can you call the other format dead when it's sales equal the other format? According to the persons's logic who posted above me both formats are dead then...

More Studio Support and bigger space (TDK revealed a 200GB Quad Layer Disc). The coding on both HD DVD and BR is now the same. Previously HDDVD had the better coding.

It's all about the titles and the quality of the transfer to high definition. Right now bluray has GREAT titles available where as hddvd has ok movies available. Who knows when this will change? Space isn't the issues since most movie studios will never use all of the space on those disks. As for the transfers hddvd has had better looking titles in the past but bluray is moving up. Once they rid themselves of that mpeg qulality they are using and move to VC-1 which is a much more superior format then they will also have great looking titles.

I actually prefer Hd-Dvd as a format but because the PS3 is supporting Blu Ray, naturally i have to go with that as it is the winning format.

If you read the sources on that 200gb Quad layer disc it cannot even be read in any of the Blue Ray players that exist today. The most the Blue Ray players can read today is 2 layers...

i was talking about the current price on the gen 2 models, not the gen 1. gen 1 cannot be found in stores because they were replaced by the gen 2 models. once again, you're putting words in my mouth to make you sound smart, but all that is doing is making you sound like the idiot you are.

buena vista is a subsidiary company of the walt disney company. had you done your research you would know that. also, after searching and looking through the studio canal website, link and the studio canal distribution website, link, there were no results for reign of fire (le regne de feu) on either site. face it, once again you fail. if anything, that reign of fire on hd dvd in japan is a bootleg or an upconverted dvd on an hd dvd.

it's a failure on sony's part. the scaler it uses does not fully scale the image in both the horizontal and vertical directions like the hardware in the 360. the ps3 hardware scaler only scales in the horizontal direction. here's a link

All of those movies that are Paramount or Warner will also be on Bluray. In addition, Universal's releases on that list are nothing compared to Fox, Sony, and Buena Vista. Casino Royale and The Pirates movies alone will sell more.
