Obviously System Wars represents the entire world.
Oh wait... It doesn't...
aren't people from SW human beings too? it may not be the whole world, but it's representative of a chunk of it.[QUOTE="Darth_DuMas"]For example I saw the sale thread on steam today and was about to get bioshock 2 but at the bottom it says it needs games for windows and also installs secure rom. I'd rather pay a little more for the plug and play console version.VandalvideoDo you even know what games for windows and securom are? First of all, Games for Windows is just a marketing campaign. It just means you need Windows. SURPRISE! What else is new? The vast majority of games don't run on Mac. You needed a Bioshock forum to tell you this? Also, securom doesn't even impair the game all that much. It is just a process which runs in the background which requires absolutely no upkeep. It does not effect ease of use. It is just one extra next click on the installation process. You can object to DRM on ideological grounds, but it by no means impairs ease of use. The only DRMs which do impair ease of use are limited install DRMs. And even, then you need some kind of LAN party going on to run out of installs. And even THEN, you can just call the company and get the cap reset. The DRM "problem" is greatly exaggerated by peoples who know nothing about how they work.
The vast majority of console ports are superior on the PC as it is. We haven't had sloppy ports since Capcom got their act together about a year or two ago. Then there are the outsourced devs that do the PC ports. What good is it releasing a console game on the PC when they can't be bothered to do the job properly.
Games for windows has caused me issues in the past, on one of those poor ports Red Faction Guerilla, as soon as it kicked in on the menu screen, it disabled the control pad. That was one of the last times I trust console ports, this dev that was outsoursed took 3 months to send out one patch literally. One of the reasons for some of the delays was getting it through the games for windows process. Apparently MS need to review the patch it before sending it through their client.
I had to uninstall Crysis to get Windows performance back, so maybe drm does affect some people. But one of my points was that it is needless to have this on versions running off steam. Do those versions really need any other drm, or even Games for Windows which seems to be a waste of time on PCs. The point of live on Xbox is that everything runs through it and its the centre piece of the xbox experience, while on the PC its just an annoying piece of the PC experience, since it seems to be a half hearted attempt at the same thing. Steam is the centre piece of gaming for me on the PC, it works my games and takes care of everything, publisher nonsense and GFW on top of that just ruins it. Plus Ubisoft DRM, which definately turns me away from the PC versions of any Ubisoft game using it. And again i'm guessing the Steam version has it too.
I don't know what you're talking about with macs and bioshock forums :|.
Ghostbusters didn't even go into a game properly on my PC but since I got it cheap on steam, I didn't mind too much and let it go and I put that one down to me given the score, but I have heard it has some performance issues. Saints Row 2 is supposed to have abysmal performance on the PC and this is according to gamespot as well. Splintercell conviction, they said they made no attempt to adapt it to the pc so there was no difficulty. The force unleashed I hear is even more sloppy than the console versions.
And you say the ports are better, where a lot of the time the ports are direct and make no attempt to make use of PCs advantages so end up being the same game at better resolutions.
I'm sure the majority of ports are fine, but I never said "all" I said that they outsource the PC versions to lazy devs who don't do a good enough job.

SW likes consoles better, period.

I mean everywhere, not just gamespot users...
And that poll was added long after the thread was created, in every other poll I´ve seen here the PC always wins.
Besides,it´s one system vs three and it still holds it´s own, that alone should tell you something.
I prefer the games, I prefer a controller over a mouse and keyboard, I've always been a console gamer, and majority of my friends are console gamers.
That is fine and all, but I would like to add two things:Games for windows has caused me issues in the past, on one of those poor ports Red Faction Guerilla, as soon as it kicked in on the menu screen, it disabled the control pad. -it;s not Games for Windows that's causing your problems, that's just a brand, a piece of graphics you put on box. The thing that's causing the problems is Games for Windows LIVE, different thing, GFW is a brand name, GFWL is a service. Fortunately it looks like even the few remaining supporters of this crap are giving up and putting one nail after another into GFWL coffin. Just this month two more devs annouced they are dropping it in favor of Steamworks.
-second, you are right that there are some sloppy ports on PC, but the same could be said about console games, there are numoerous cases of great pc games ported sloppily to consoles. Red Alert 3, CnC3, Tropicop 3...all vastly inferior on consoles...SupCom 1-2, they look like PC version on low..and with crippled gameplay. RISEN is yet another example, great PC RPG, but 360 version was outsourced to crappy dev and the end results suck like hell. So while it is true that PC sometimes gets sloppy ports, the very same thing could be said about consoles.

Thank you for a non defensive reply. :)
Yes I did mean GFWL, I didn't expect people would think I mean't the brand (others have pointed this out to me in this thread). It's good to hear publishers are giving up on it though.
I agree it can go both ways I just never really looked at it like that since I avoid playing PC games on consoles and console games on the PC. I just have an expectation of the entertainment on the different platforms and that entertainment is different too. Console games can feel too arcadey on the PCs and PC games can feel a little too serious on consoles.
Don't ask me why I feel this way its weired, because they're both machines, I shouldn't really affiliate certain experiences with either I guess. Didn't stop me trying them out on steam, who can pass up a good deal right? :P

The general reasons in why people like consoles more then Pc gaming.
1. Its quick and simple to starting gaming.
2. The games that they like are only on their console or comsoles.
3. Consoles is all they know about, venturing to a different form of gaming is intimidating.
4. Fanboyism plays a big role in bashing, denial, and telling lies to try to make their favorite item be on top when its not.
Then general facts of Pc gaming.
1. Dont need a zillion dollar Pc to play games. A simple $100 upgrade on a 3-4 year old Pc can spruse a family Pc into a Pc that can game equal or better then current console graphics abilities.
2. Gaming on Pc has gotten alot easier with new OS's like Windows Vista / 7 , Programs like Steam unifying gaming into a single package like consoles do.
3. Pc technology goes leaps and bounds over consoles by the time a new generation comes out Pc is already there and will be ahead.
4. Connecting Controllers and TV's is not hard, but very easy.

Really? I'm sure it's more comfortable to dismiss anyone who disagrees with you as a fanboy, but really, if you're not wiling to engage in honest debate, I question what value you add to the discussion, if any. Beyond that: if all I wanted to do was become a fanboy, and if PC gaming was really so compelling that its superiority was undeniable, then why wouldn't I have just become a PC fanboy?4.
