The game had commercials running on a lot of basic cable networks. Hulu has the ad running nonstop. So how did a high profile multiplatform game that had a successful multiplayer BETA (on 360 at least), chart so low?

How much did it sell ? I dont think you can expect something like Crysis 2 to sell at the level of other high profile shooters. Especially on consoles since they are not familiar with the series. Homefront did better, because of the massive advertisement they did with the game. Even I was interested in homefront till I actually played the game.
Crysis is a PC franchise. Consolites outside of System Wars didn't know the game was even coming out on consoles or didn't know about the game, period. Regular Joe only knows about Halo and Call of duty, everything else is crappy. I'm pretty sure those that did know about it were PC gamers that were gonna get it on PC, regardless if it was multiplatform or not.nintendog66http://au.gamespot.com/news/6308732.html I think the sales were for all 3 platforms. Still the game was advertised everywhere, Homefront is a new franchise too, your statement doesn't explain why.

because it sucks? i mean crysis 1 > 2 even in terms of graphics (imho) and it was released 3 or 4 years ago.
[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]consoles ocstewDA2 and Homefront are way more consolized. And worse games in general.
but they had a huge fanbase to back them up, at least DA 2 because it was made by bioware and it was the sequel to the awesome DA:O, i mean i got that garbage just because i thought it was gonna be half as awesome as the first one. Too bad i was wrong, and i can bet more than one person bought it for the same reason, we fell for EA cashing the success of DA:O

I've seen more "Crysis 2" ads on TV than "Homefront" ads

Yeah and DA2 and Homefront suck even harder yet still beat Crysis 2. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33708/Saling_The_World_Crysis_2_Heads_Domestic_Multiplatform_Sales.php Compare these sales, where Homefront is no where to be found To http://au.gamespot.com/news/6308732.html Of which the OP is talking aboutMention the game Crysis to people in the real world (outside these forums) and you usually get back blank stares. I think the majority of console owners had never heard of Crysis 1 and had little to no interest in a sequel to a game they'd never heard of in the first place. Also I think we're starting to see some FPS fatigue in the gaming market...thank God.getyeryayasout
I wouldn't be surprised if crysis2 ends up making less overall than crysis 1 when costs (development and advertising) are subtracted.
Serves them right.
Probably not a huge amount of people like this, but: I know about 10 people who won't play the game because they never played the first. A lot of people I know buy games for story progression or familiarity with the series. They know Mario, so they'll play it. They've played all the Halo games, so they continue playing those. The overwhelming conversations I have concerning Crysis 2 is a shrug followed by "Never played the first" so they don't care.
wut? Crysis 2 plays a lot like CoD. I think that is one of the main reasons it underperformed. Instead of trying to stay true to it's roots of a PC shooter, it tried to be CoD.People got used to Call of Duty and Crysis didnt play like call of duty

I clearly said "the average FPS (first person shooter) gamer"
The game completely missed the point, and that's why they don't deserve sales.
I understood that they were going for an entirely new audience(PC gamers to mass market console gamers), but they have completely missed the point and haven't actually succeeded in meeting that new audience's needs. However at the same time they cut out what made the first 2 crysis games good.
The setting for crysis 2 is amazing. They really should have worked on this and created an atmosphere with amazing characters and story that drage you into and SUPPORTS the gameplay. Emotions tied to gameplay make a game much more fun than the gameplay mechanics on its own (look at the chronicles of riddick escape from butcher bay for a good example of emotions create by the atmosphere that are tied to gameplay)
Instead of focusing on this, Crytek have created an amazing looking atmosphere that doesn't feel as believable as it looks. It's empty and crytek should be ashamed at themselves. It is pathetic to say the least. They spent so much effort on creating this engine, and then haven't put it to good use. Shame on you Crytek.
I do however hope that some other skilled developer that actually KNOWS how to engage its target audience is able to use CRYTEK's engine. Crytek probably deserves money for getting this engine to work on consoles.

Everyone I asked if they bought Crysis 2 replied with "I didn't even know there was a Crysis 1" The first being a PC exclusive hurt the sales of the second. The PC fanboys are going to jump all over me over this but it's the truth. I really don't care. *Going to play Crysis 2 now*GoldenElementXL
Targeting people who didn't know there was a crysis 1 is what hurt the sales of the second.

In fact a lot of people I know bought the game and liked it at first. They simply began complaining that the game was "Alright at best." and thats what the verdict is across the board. Deal with it. Game isn't that great
Not many people cared all that much about the Red Dead games. Redemption came around and was purchased on the merits of it being a SUPERB game. If this were the case with Crysis 2, it would have gotten similar reviews, sales, and all of that. Game is B quality.
Wonder what Crytek will say when Cry2 sells less than Cry1. SAGE_OF_FIRE
The pirates had allied with the ninjas to sabotage the foliage. Zombies could not be found.

I know the game is nowhere near as good as the original. I don't know about sales, but after release week I noticed a dramatic loss of interest towards the game, not only on various websites but in the real world as well. I think that's because it was seen as just another multiplat shooter, and they're a dime a dozen these days. People still bring up Crysis four years after it's release, I doubt Crysis 2 will share that.
Same here, i played the demo on the 360 and was like heck no, and they tried the pc demo and was like ok a little better. I loved the first crysis and warhead but i had no interest for this one ( i hate that they made it into the city instead of the youngle) I was really dissapointed at the trailers and stuff, but i will still pick up the pc version in a week or two. A shame really this game couldve been alot better if it was PC only;(The MP beta was the only "demo" of the game, and it was enough to make me think twice about paying more than $30 for it.

That sums up my thoughts on the game.
The environments are plenty believable. It's New York occupied by a PMC engaged in a rivalry between the US government. At the same time alien forces have spread a virus throughout the city, infecting it's citizens. They didn't miss the point at all.The game completely missed the point, and that's why they don't deserve sales.

The console gamers don't even know what Crysis 1 is.. So they're going to buy Crysis 2 knowing nothing about the franchise. Not a great way to sell games on consoles when it was an already established franchise on the PC.
