[QUOTE="ocstew"][QUOTE="MIYAMOTOnext007"]

The average FPS gamer wants a great multiplayer, not a great singleplayer.

Crysis 2 had a great singleplayer, not a great multiplayer.

MIYAMOTOnext007

Explain DA2 then

I clearly said "the average FPS (first person shooter) gamer"

Yea, imo Crysis 2had a good singleplayer and it didn't dissapoint me but the multiplayer wasen't so hot. It tried to be Halo and Call of Duty at the same time.

finalstar2007

Right  It was close, the entire idea of the project was to MAKE it more cod like. Anyawy the result has been dissapointing from both sides. So while i could say it underperfomed, ea says that its doing better than the last 3 releases they made.

Try to please everyone, and you please no one.getyeryayasout

This, they tried everything, but did not try to focus enough on any of those things, just pick up a mixer and throw it all and throw it out without having much of ambition on any of those things.

I'm not effected by this at all. I predicted this way back. Crytek are clueless, they thought they were going to sell seven millions just because the game was on consoles. They mentioned Black Ops numbers. They poured millions in marketing and production. They never realized how lucky they were to have a solid fanbase on PC, but they sold out so bad the first chance they got... They deserve it. Crysis 2 is such a huge flop it wont even justify it's budget. Yes they deserve it.

[QUOTE="GoldenElementXL"]Everyone I asked if they bought Crysis 2 replied with "I didn't even know there was a Crysis 1" The first being a PC exclusive hurt the sales of the second. The PC fanboys are going to jump all over me over this but it's the truth. I really don't care. *Going to play Crysis 2 now*Elann2008
I'm a PC gamer and I called this from the very beginning. The console gamers don't even know what Crysis 1 is.. So they're going to buy Crysis 2 knowing nothing about the franchise. Not a great way to sell games on consoles when it was an already established franchise on the PC.

this is bs, its like saying new IPs cant sell very well because no one knows them. The game didn't sell because it was mediocre.

True. That's probably why I'm so disappointed with it. The atmosphere is so well realised but Crytek haven't used it to its potential

The FPS market is a difficult one to compete in, it looks like a pretty good game to me but I'd buy KZ3 before it and then have R3 and BF3 too look forward to on the horizon. Perhaps gamers feel like I do or it just didn't appeal to as many peopl as EA thought it would.

well... considering that their fanbase was on the PC and basically gave them the middle finger not to mention that pretty much no one knew Crysis outside of PC gaming (talking about general public not gaming nerds like us on gamespot :P) i cant say i'm surprised.

Don't worry, some people are still butthurt from the fallout. Some people even want a 500 member studio to go bankrupt (yes, flopping on a game as big as this will get you bankrupt), too bad the sales will be adequate profit-wise, just not as much as they hoped for. "I hope they make less profit then they did from the original, that would be fantastic." Somehow even though people think they shafted PC gamers, this statement seems very spiteful and childish.

Probably the same thing really. According to some trackers I visit Crysis 2 Xbox 360 has been downloaded ~600,000 times so far.

I don't want Crytec to go bankrupt, Crysis 1 made a good profit, but they got greedy and made a shoddy sequal, that shouldn't be rewarded.

Sales are indicating that they getting what they deserve.

Butthurt? this so called sequal not only completely made the lore and story of the first game worthless with a complete shift in direction and theme, it turn open sandbox gameplay into a complete CoD clone, the MP was also a complete cod knock off only unbalanced and tedious, at least Crysis 1 attempted to make something quite unique, while far from perfect was much more interesting than this garbage. Butthurt? nah, you are butthurt because you just wanted a CoD clone with super powers, well you got it, but your angry because the majority wanted a sequal to Crysis, not SOAP in a godamn nano suit. The company took the easy way out, no credit is given for that, should people lose jobs? the lead designer/producer should as far as I'm concerned, and so should crytek if this gets less value than Crysis 1, nothing but 1 step foward (story presentation) 2 steps back.

Same opinion, see if ater the first 5 levels you start to feel diffiently like i did. The game turns horribly linear, the story goes nowhere and in the end it feels like the campaign NEVER reached it peak, like the begining was the peak of it. After that, the ending was horrible so the otherwise pretty fun game for the first 3 hours became dissapointing and forgetable later on.

It really is true, Crytek alienated thier PC audience, and did not suceed in giving the game a solid identity on consoles.

The PC audience got royally pissed (with a fairly good reason), and you cant blame console players for not picking it up, there are so many fps games out there, and Crysis were fairly average, imitating CoD too much to get its own identity.

And soon we will hear Crytek complain again -.- I wonder if the PC audience gets the blame for this one :S

PC elitists on every forum whining about it made the game seem fail. But then again you have DA2, still I don't see how two worse games beat Crysis 2 in sales. ocstew

PC gamers can't be blamed. Is not our fault if you can simply rent the game in Xbox 360 or PS3 for a weekend campaign run. Is not our fault if the game doesn't delivers in mp and lacks editor. Is not our fault if the game has 0 connections in characters and story with Cryisis. Is Crytek fault if the game doesn't appeals console gamers. I bought the game and dplay the campaign, If I don't like what I saw I have legit right to express my dissapoint.

Marketing seems a bit off. The ads have been stylish and eye-catching, but there was really nothing to it other than some guy in an unusual looking suit fighting in NYC. It needed something that a viewer can identify with.

Homefronts ad campaign extended way beyond television. Here in NYC alone, there were add on cabs and buses and in subways, not to mention the billboards. It even had box art that was more interesting than generic supersoldier fighting aliens.

Yeah. The thing is Crysis sold over 3 million copies on the long run. Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, made those piracy comments about the PC when Crysis was selling poorly intially, I think it might have to do with the fact that they set the bar pretty high with Crysis. As people got better and better hardware people brought Crysis, over 3 million of them and Crytek quitely stopped talking about piracy on the PC. That's why Crysis Warhead sold faster over a shorter period because people already had a gaming rig to run Crysis which would easily run Crysis Warhead.

Catering to the fans of the franchise would have probably helped.

Right now, the game has some very rough spots in the tech department to the point where the predecessor is not only more consistant but more impressive overall.

furthermore, Crytek have not been up to the job in regards to bug fixing and anti cheating measures in MP.

Initially, people could apparently "hack" MP with NOTEPAD and it seems you can (hopefully could) log in and compete using a KEYGEN :?

I'm not sure what the AI is up to but they're sure easy to confuse. Looks like they have a hard time dealing with stealth.

Console players didn't know about the game because no one really outside of major gamers and people on forums know about the first Crysis. And PC players didn't want it because it was so downgraded from everything the first game did great. It didn't even feel like a proper pc game.

People bought it for the multiplayer and complained about it. It should always have been marketed as a Single player game IMO and releasing a multiplayer demo just made people think it was all about the MP.

MP that needs a lot of work at that, at least on PC. Kinda ironic that it's probably the worst of the three.

Besides Crytek overestimating the success of a game making it's 1st entry on consoles, I think bugs and tech issues with the beta hurt it a lot.Even still, most videogame series' on consoles don't seem to really take off until their 2nd showing. So my guess is Crysis 3 will have a lot more success than Crysis 2 did.

Esecially when they were still there upon retai release ;)

Considering Yerhli's comments I'm not even sure there will be a Crysis 3. I would'nt be surprized if he's a thinking a PC exclusive would have been less hassle by now.

Crytek has to realize that the console market is a whole lot more competitive than the PC games market. Mediocre FPS games that are all about "teh grafix," like Crysis and Crysis 2, aren't going to fly on consoles.

Because of it's lack of an identity. I unfortunately am one of the fools who loved Crysis 1 and bought Crysis 2 and haven't put more than 2 hours into it. What a waste of $60 for a pc game. Game truly is mediocre at best.

TV advertising market =/= Gaming forum minority. [QUOTE="ocstew"][QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]consoles ocstew
DA2 and Homefront are way more consolized. And worse games in general.

DA2 had a very dedicated fanbase, it's a Bioware game. Crytek rested its laurels at the expense of sacrificing its IP's core audience.

DA2 may of taken steps back, however it didn't have the launch debacle of visual settings, broken multiplayer and disregard for the PC audience in general. That's looking at both as multiplatform games.

Which is why I personally picked up DA2 on launch, and am yet to buy Crysis 2. Coming from someone who bought DA:O, Awakening, Crysis and Warhead all on release.

Because of it's lack of an identity.

Crysis is a PC franchise. Consolites outside of System Wars didn't know the game was even coming out on consoles or didn't know about the game, period. Regular Joe only knows about Halo and Call of duty, everything else is crappy.nintendog66
That doesn't make any sense when the 360 version out sold the PC.

The game didn't sell because it was mediocre.

Krelian-co
Yet mediocre games sell well. The truly mediocre and unremarkable (for nearly all of the part) Homefront receives positive sales, and Crysis 2, which is still a far more remarkable shooter than Homefront multiplied by a thousand would ever be wasn't nearly as successful as anticipated. New IPs struggle to do well, it's rare for a new IP to turn a profit in the triple A retail space, what developers tend to do is build up the IP into something that can have sequels and become a franchise. Like Assassins Creed in your DP, that's one of the best examples this generation.

[QUOTE="nintendog66"]Crysis is a PC franchise. Consolites outside of System Wars didn't know the game was even coming out on consoles or didn't know about the game, period. Regular Joe only knows about Halo and Call of duty, everything else is crappy.dc337

That doesn't make any sense when the 360 version out sold the PC.

Many PC gamers felt disenfranchised by it. I haven't bough it, still.

It would have sold better on all systems if they bothered to add a story and some interesting characters. Crytek is good at graphics but not much else.
