Now before I get lynched, I would like to say this is not a flamebaiting topic. I've been seeing some people in SW claim the PC is crap or the games suck or something like that. But I really want to get the bottom of why people are saying that. Why do THEY think the games suck, why do THEY think the PC is a crap format.

Basiclly for this topic, I kindly ask you to come up with a convincing opinion not just "hurr durr, PC sucks". Notice I bolded opinion, because thats what is it, an opinion.

clyde46

I can only speak for myself. I think PC games are fine. In many ways a PC is capable of doing things that consoles just can't, such as good MMORPGs (which may change) and RTS. Even some of the best RPGs of all time were because of the advantage a keyboard offered as a control compared to a console controller with fixed buttons.

Having said that, for me, the PC is simply too much hassle and effort to really make it the focus of gaming. I like that a console is a standardized experience. People can argue all day about "freedom" and "customization" and whatever, but the reality is that with freedom and customization comes extra knowledge, work and effort on the part of the user to take full advantage. I don't want to be bothered with that. I want to buy a console, plug it in and use it knowing the games I play are standard and the best experience the developer planned to deliver. I don't want to have to tweak settings and nitpick over performance issues and textures and lighting effects to maximize the performance for my videocard or RAM. I don't want to sit there thinking that I'm getting an inferior verison of the game because myu hardware isn't capable of displaying the full game the developers designed and intended for those with better rigs.

Which then leads to upgrades and worrying about drivers and patches and whatever else.

There is something to be said about standardized hardware. I know it works as advertised, offers a reliable experience and just works as its supposed to without any real expectation from me the gamer. It is why I've converted to a Mac and have an ipad and will likely ditch my android for an iphone in the future. It is easy and simple and I honestly believe technology should work for ME, and not the other way around.

Granted, much of this has migrated to consoles as well (updates, patches, etc) and I don't like it there anymore than on PC. Maybe I will change and move to PC in the future, I'm open to the possibility. But for now I just don't feel that it is for me other than small indie type games and the occassional game I can't play on consoles (like SC2). For those who like playing around with PCs and working with them, good on them. But to argue that is the only "real" gaming experience (while arguing with all other PC users about what cards are better or who paid how much for what, etc) is ignorant fanboyism in its own right because it fails to see anyone else's POV.

I would also add that I am on a computer all day long 5 days a week. It isn't exactly fun for me to then come home and in my spare time sit in front of a computer some more. I also feel that there is something more welcoming and relaxed with console gaming due to the connection of the living room. Sure, as some have probably already pointed out, PCs can be hooked up to TV and you can buy special controllers or whatever. But again, that is just more for me to worry about. Our PC is primarily for work related purposed, web browsing, etc. I don't want that to invade my living room and I also don't want to have to keep moving it around from room to room any time I want to play a game vs work.

PC has its place as do consoles. For me, the PC is not the gaming experience I want for the most part. Console are.

Yes, and what's funny is you don't want to make the thread about you, but you keep constanly talking about your experience... look you can't have it both ways ( sounds familiar? )

Bebi_vegeta

There's a difference between discussing my experience in context, and asking completely unrelated questions or dismissing posts simply because of who wrote them. Even the people I listed earlier, I read the entire post and respond.

Right, when you see fit... it works well.

Not what I said at all. If you have legitimate criticisms of my experience, or evidence that I've fabricated it, I'm all ears. On the other hand, if you just want to complain because I'm posting, then it doesn't add anything to the discussion.

I'll put in my two cents. I primarily game on PC and I love it, but that does not mean there are things I don't like about PC gaming:

DRM. This is worst thing to come out on PC games...ever. It ties you to a specific set of rules to play the game or forces you to conform to whatever the developer/publisher wants or you can't play the game. Example: Diablo 3, you can't play the game offline

Digital Download services: I love Steam. What I don't like is when other companies like EA, have to somehow compete with Steam by releasing their own download service: Origin. EA launch Origin, not to provide a better service, but as a big middle finger to Valve, which is child's play. I only use Origin for Mass Effect games and BF3, and will not use it for anything else.

Confusing terms of service agreements: It feels like every game I install on the PC, I also have to read a large legal document to make sure I don't violate any rules put down by the publisher. These can be confusing and annoying, and have caused issues in the past.

Those are just 3 of my reasons that PC gaming can be annoying, but I still love to game on PC because it offers me the most choice.

Judging by the list, games with local co-op took a sharp decline in this last few years, also, most of the listed games are fairly older...

And yeah, of course consoles have more split-screen games than the PC, as split-screen was never big on the PC, we had on-line gaming for a much longer than consoles, and we also had LAN...

Once upon a time I paid £300 for a graphics card and 12 months later it had trouble running the newest games with high settings,I lost interest in PC gaming shortly after.I now have a PS3 which plays all the games I put in it without any problems.

Can't afford it.

Stringerboy

How can you not afford it when consoles are more expensive in the long run?

Entry cost is high with PC, I know. But still... It depends on what PC hardware you want. If you're happy with low & medium settings, the PC entry cost is not pricey at all.

I do game on PC, just because I don't have one that can run Crysis at max settings doesn't mean I don't have a gaming PC. The reason why it's not my favorite platform is because it can be a bit of a hassle at times, and having to upgrade again is an expensive pain in the ass.

And despite what PC fanboys say, the PC version of games are not really that much more better than their console counterparts. It's slightly better at best.

It's funny how every single year at the time of the steam sales we get a flood of threads about how great pc gaming is. An upgrade is only feasible after 3 or 4 years. That's about the same lifecycle of a console...

Hassle? Is it not considered a hassle of having to spend money to replace a broken console every 2 years? PC is much more reliable by the nature of itself.

By your logic, upgrading from the PS3 to PS4 is an expensive pain in the ass.

1) If you want to play all the latest games with max settings and whatnot you have to upgrade about every year, and consoles do not need upgrades every 4 years. This gen has shown that.

2) It is a hassle to upgrade and tweak settings, I rarely get any PC game to work right the first time. Maybe you know more about tech and computers than I do, but I can't even get my 360 controller to work right on my PC, it always has lag input. The 360 was the only console that I ever had break on me, all the other consoles have been reliable.

If you want to have the latest PC games with max settings and upgrades, you spend far more than someone who games primarily on a console.

You have no interest discussing my personal preference? Did you bother reading the thread title? And you're wrong about Split Screen being on the decline, all the best selling 360 games have Split Screen, and I don't see the Iconic 360 games like Forza, Halo, Black Ops, Modern Warefare, and Gearf of War every shying away from System Split Screen.

[QUOTE="GioVela2010"] That doesn't take away from y I don't PC Game in my living room (my preferred setup for gaming)GioVela2010

I have no interest in discussing your personal preferences, I'm only discussing the decline in split-screen relevance in console gaming, and the list you provided goes in hand with my argument...

I game on the PC, the OP's thread title question isn't directed towards me. It's directed towards non-PC gamers.

Also, Forza, CoD, Halo and Gears, that's what, 4 franchises still maintaining split-screen?

Your list nicely shows how as the years went on, we had less and less games including it.

Now, I'm not saying it's dead yet, I just said it lost a huge part of its relevance. I expect it to die off completely some time next gen, though, aside from some isolated cases, maybe...

Because

1. It has the most genres. (GS)

2. It has the most competative games/genres bar none. Only fighters on consoles come CLOSE, and then fall short.

3. Best graphics. (Fact)

4. Best performance, by leaps and bounds. (Fact)

5. Most Games. Most Exclusives (4x than any single console infact) (GS). And biggest Indy scene.

6. Most features and options. (FOV/MODS/Controller Types/Hook upt to HDTV/etc.)

7. Best version of 90% of multiplats. (GS)

Jankarcop

he's just a troll

Explain which of those 7 facets was factually untrue.

Atm, I can remember Medal of Honor, which used to have split-screen last gen, but latest installments don't. I can also think of RE: Operation Racoon Ciry, where co-op is playable on-line only. Will edit when I remember more...

EDIT: Need for Speed used to have split-screen, yet latest installments don't...

EDIT 2: Burnout used to have split-screen, yet latest installment, Burnout Paradise doesn't...

EDIT 3: Remembered one more, GTA. GTA SA had some sort of a split-screen mode, with two players following each other, know my friends loved it back in the day. No such thing is present in GTA IV...

But still, doesn't matter much, the list gave all the proof I need, it's simply a game element that many devs consider unnecessary, and even when included, it feels half-assed...

GamerwillzPS

An upgrade is only feasible after 3 or 4 years. That's about the same lifecycle of a console...

Hassle? Is it not considered a hassle of having to spend money to replace a broken console every 2 years? PC is much more reliable by the nature of itself.

By your logic, upgrading from the PS3 to PS4 is an expensive pain in the ass.

Uhmmm, consoles have had a minimum of a 5 year lifespan. Last gen was 6 and this gen is already past 7. So no, not the same lifecycle of consoles.

Are you honestly comparing buying a console and plugging it into the wall/tv and playing with buying new PC hardware, taking apart your PC and installing it? Hell, even the amount of research required to buy the right piece for you at a price you want is more than it takes to buy a new console.

I don't think you know how logic works.

Basiclly for this topic, I kindly ask you to come up with a convincing opinion not just "hurr durr, PC sucks".

clyde46

I prefer console gaming over PC gaming. but it's not because I think PC gaming is crap or sucks. Just a preference.

I grew up with consoles, and I'm used to having a controller in my hands. Sitting back on a couch, with a controller in my hands, and playing on a big TV.... that is what gaming is to me. not to say I never play any sort of games whatsoever on a PC, but I use that for more casual type games (browser based, etc). I also like how you can rent games on a console. and because console gaming has a lower entry-point, price wise, and is focused on a few specific choices of hardware, you get a larger, more centralized community (with plenty of squeakers and dicks, yes, but also more than enough good ppl to game with).

PC gaming has its advantages, for sure.:) I have a steam account, and I don't think its a bad service at all.

Sucks to be you. My PC is more powerful than your Mac and probably cost less. I can play more games on it as well as use a far greater range of software. Have fun paying more to be more limited.

Yes it's a good thing you have such a good PC, so that you can use it to go on the Internet to try to convince people to care about how great your PC is. :)

Bottom lime is that I have hundreds of console games that I can play with friends with only 1 tV and 1 console, compared to 1 handful of games for PC.
