You don't need a gaming PC to play PC games, nor do you need a very powerful PC. For every game that requires a legit gaming PC there are probably 100 others that don't.
There are also so many hundreds of free games, or sub-$10 games out there that it's not too expensive to get started.

As far as gaming potential, the laptop I have is crap. I'm not sure I have a dedicated video card.
Dedicated video cards aren't important, however if you have one of those Asus EeePC type thingies then you can't really play any games.
PC has a 30 year long backlog, and has a crazy amount of indie support, and many more low-profile games.
You could, at the least, try out some demos on your current laptop for modern games just to experiment with what it can run. I'm willing to bet you'd be surprised.
I've got a terrible laptop myself that I bought for $300 a couple years ago, and it's got some games on there. I know I put The Witcher on there at least.
Maybe I'll give that a try. I should be getting a new one for college so maybe it'll be better. Thanks Ly.
