Why has Blu-Ray been skipped with PC gaming?

PC gaming has always seemed to lead the way in the next step in gaming. But i can't think why PC gamers dont seem to take Blu-Ray into there gaming. I know PC gaming is going digital but still every1 is going to have a Blu-Ray player in the future. Movies, 3d movies and data storage. I got my Blu-Ray player/Re-Writer for only £50 off amazon. The id tech 5 engine with the mega textures bs games are going to be 50gb+!!

My download speed sucks, took me 10 hours to get The Witcher which is like 11gb. Should we be asking for Blu-Ray PC games?

PC has always been a bit behind in this regard. Im pretty sure games have only been on DVD for the past couple of years. CD lasted a long time.

If there was no DD we'd probably see BD PC games in 5-8 years.

why 2 dvd's r cheaper then 1 blueray and can fit as much as is needed.

The logical answer:

I can Dowload a 16 gig game, faster then I can drive to the nearest place that sells games, buy the game, and drive back.

So, To me Blu-Ray was a dead media from the getgo. Too inconvenient, takes up too much space, and I prefer pressing an icon to insall a game, rather then go looking for the disk, Pretty simple, dont you think?

its not to say that I find Blu-Rayuseless alltogether, I can see the use with console games, since the consoles holds less space (on average), and Blu-Ray is allright with Movies in mind (altho they are merely an evolution of the Dvd, not a revolution.

So I think Most PC gamers simply looked at the Blu-Ray when it came out, and saw something that for thier purpose was hopefully outdated? (we are talking about the people who prides themselves with hardware afterall)

Mainly when you have to install a game in it's entirety and most times nowadays you don't even have to so much as look at the disc again you really don't care whether it came on 2 DVDs (most PC games don't even top a single dvd anyways) or a blu-ray..... You'll end up waiting either way and you don't really care about having to pop in the extra disc during the install (for the few PC gamers who actually still get discs at all). Then there's the fact that a BD drive is $200 with hardly anything to buy on it (certainly not games anyways) and the speed (at 8 - 12x) isn't enough of an increase to warrant paying $200 over the $20 you'd pay for a dvd drive.

Because Blu-Ray is unnecessary for the platform, and adds additional total costs (discs and drive) outweighing the convenience factor of simply using a second disc once to install.

Bad example I think, cd's way outlived their welcome. I want to pull my hair out whenever I install an "old" game on 5 cds.

Meanwhile multi-dvd games are still few and far between.

You do realize that PC devs (most of which are not MS) could release games on Blu-Ray, right? They just don't because it wouldn't be worthwhile.

Because the DVDs that come with the games install most of the files on the hard-drive. That is why with compression, most PC games fit on 1-2 DVDs at most and do not require the user to switch disks when playing.the_ChEeSe_mAn2

PCs just aren't powerful enough for Blu-ray yet. Maybe in 5 years.

I bet PC devs would like to do so but it won't happen unless branded PC(Dell, HP, etc) came with BD-Drive by default.

Digital sales are going up like crazy, retail sales are going down I believe. A lot of people don't have blu ray drives, and it's just unnecessary.

Oh, andBebi_vegeta, if you're serious, blu ray won't make pc games better at all because you have to install them anyway.

That's exactly my point... It's simply not needed.

1. DD "Steam" is the now and futur.

2. I'm sure very few people have a blu-ray player for the PC as of now, people would be forced to buy one.

3. It adds nothing to PC gaming.

because blu ray isnt needed for gaming yet. maybe in a few years with better hardware we might see some games that will be helped by blu ray. right now though motorstorm one used almost 50 gigs of space and the game didnt offer thatmuch. to much space is being wasted on anti pirate code i think

i can only assume because PC devs are made crazy good with compression or because multidisc PC games are no big deal since everything installs anyway.

My "Will Blu Ray make my PC games better" was to see how ridicul your post was.

Only 1 consoles has it... as in, the Wii doesn't have it... X360 doesn't have it... why? Are they suffering from not having a blu ray drive?

Floppy disk = 1.44Mb

CD=700Mb

DVD dual layer = 8.7Gb

Blu Ray = 50Gb

So your example of Blacks ops is "Crazy"...

As of right now, Dirt 2 on Steam needs 10Gb of space...

Unless your not a PC gamer... you should already know that a PC uses a HDD to install the game from a compressed disk and geting a blu ray disk wouldn't change or help the PC in any matter at this point.

There's no need for Blue Ray. Why?

-Even with DVDs you just install the game once and then it's no problem. I doubt anyone is so lazy that he can't switch disc once or twice while installing the damn game.

Simply put, Blue Ray doens't offer any real advantage over DVDs in PCgaming.

STEAM is the reason. Steam is the future of gaming. In the future I am sure digital downloading will be huge for console gaming as well. Unfortunately there is no service like steam available for consoles and I doubt there ever will be since consoles are locked down.

With compression you can fit almost 20 gb of uncompressed data on a dual layer dvd.
