Why don't you take a step back and look at the likely causes for this.
1) The device was a risk and underestimated, therefore invested so heavily from the start wasn't likely to happen. just a "Get it out there and provide the games."
2) Wii U tanked, the Switch was likely alittle bit rushed out the door to get a second chance at the market.
3) OS/Memory/CPU limits ... If I recall the PS3 had "excuses" for not doing basic things XBOX did due to OS/hardware limitations... (ironically wasn't it voice chat?) ... Nintendo likely messed up here byt haivng to balance power for those features... future Switch revisions/next gen will likely resolve this... sadly.
This is the first generation of a big reboot for them. Meanwhile incremental playstation and xbox just keep building on a solid foundation.
Excuses? maybe.... but lets not pretend these things were magically in place on Sony's previous devices day one... PS2 LOL, PS3 .... had barely any constancy and plenty of quality of life issues when it came to online service.
To this day Playstations download speeds and general quality of service is lacking compared to MS/Steam/Etc.
