As a nearly 40 year old gamer who has been faithfully enjoying this hobby since the atari 2600, there is no sweeter statement that could be made about the potential of this hobby than what the switch is doing to the tech obsessed generation.

Its gloriously destroying ps4 and Xbox fans because the games are diverse, incredible inclusive and super fun to play. The design is off the charts perfect and it's doing all this with hardware that isn't trying to compete with ps4 and Xbox because good game design DESTROYS graphics and performance and nothing you can do, say, think or hope will change that.

What were seeing in Switch is a generation of technology obsessed fanboys lose their shit because Nintendo is doing it better with less under the hood....

I just think Nintendo fans are completely blind to their faults and/or completely unwilling to criticize anything they do. Usually when I criticize something Nintendo does, like not including a browser on the Switch or taking so much time to bring the VC to Switch, it's because I want them to fix it. However, I'm usually met with a stream of Nintendo fans accusing me of being a hater, of just not liking Nintendo, of trying to bash the system, and that's really not it. Case in point, my one biggest complaint with the Switch is that it doesn't function as a regular tablet and I've said it would be 100 times better with an Android OS. Well, surprise, surprise, Nintendo actually approached Cyanogen about making a custom Android OS, so I'm actually thinking the exact same thing as the Switch developers were. If I voice that sentiment, though, I'm a hater.

I could go on. I've seen Nintendo fans say that Nintendo never makes bad games and get mad at me when I point out bad games, that they never make yearly releases and get mad at me when I point out yearly releases, that they never do microtransactions or cash-ins and get mad at me when I point out microtransactions and cash-ins. The way Nintendo treats streamers and the fact that they can't find a way to be more amicable with people who love their products and are giving them free publicity especially gets me. That's one example where I can't understand why so many Nintendo fans just jump to their defense automatically and parrot the company line. Maybe it's just me, but I seem to get a lot more blowback from Nintendo fans for relatively mild criticism than I do from any other type of fan.

@theone86: I think Nintendo fans have become artful in defending the last two generations because Nintendo vision was suspect to say the least. Wiiu should've never happened and for all the Wiis that were sold to old age homes on the heels of wii Sports, there's a bazillion Wiis in the wild that were better suited as door stops. That's my personal opinion.

Nintendo fans have been watching more ambitious and aggressive movement from their competitors on connectivity and online features, third party, hell even first party games for a while. Hence, Nintendo fans have become artful at the game of dodge and validate.

Fast forward to today and Nintendo seems to be embracing forward movement and ambition for their library on switch. They're showing movement on connectivity and they still have the only free online service in console gaming. Nintendo fans finally have games and a device to legitimately gloat over and so we're seeing it more and more.

What I think is best to do is let fanboys fanboy. Sony, Nintendo and Ms all have one thing in common, their fanboys are misguided, inflexible, short sited and bizarrely rigid in their beliefs. Better to let them rant and giggle behind your computer screen than to feed the fanboy and validate their silly leanings.

It was the same with the Wii and Apple. When will nerds learn that casuals don't care about power and all that stuff. Lack of VC support is a bit disappointing but if they did have it I'd probably make a stink about having to buy games I've already bought through VC again, so, whatever, still happy with my Switch so far as a supplemental gaming device.

What is with the Fanboy Wars (aka talking about the "sheep")? I thought we are supposed to talk about games on System Wars, not the gamers ("fanboys").

@TheEroica: I will say that Nintendo fans have probably gotten used to being dumped on by MS and Sony fanboys, it's been happening since the 64 and it only gets worse with each generation. I still don't like the knee-jerk reaction I get from some of them. And I will say that at least part of the reason Sony and MS fanboys dump on them so much is because Nintendo always seems to find a way to make dumb decisions for no apparent reason. The PS2 won that generation, in part, because they included a DVD player, but Nintendo skipped the DVD player on the Gamecube and Wii. MS dominated the 360 generation because of its support for online services, but here Nintendo is two generations later just having gotten rid of the horrific friend codes system and not including Netflix on the Switch. I just really don't understand Nintendo's thinking as a company sometimes. But yeah, fanboys do suck.

And I'll even go to bat for the Wii and Wii U. Yeah, no one really used the motion controls, but I chalk that up more to developers being unimaginative and not taking chances. That's one area where I'll really credit Nintendo. Not only do they usually do something innovative with their consoles, but they actually develop games that use those innovations as more than just a tack-on. They also make games like Starfox Zero now and then, too. And the Wii U, first step in a better direction. Still, I don't think anyone at Nintendo was intending the Wii U to go out so quickly. But yeah, the Switch is a legitimately innovative console that takes all the best features of the Wii and Wii U and packs them into the sort of mobile console people have been asking for since tablets were invented. Hard for Xbox/Sony fanboys to dump on the Switch for graphics when they're outclassed by PCs themselves, and Nintendo is doing something that neither PCs or other consoles do.

To be fair, Nintendo has been doing this for a very long time and this is the first time anyone has done anything about it. Plenty of other companies do it, too. In fact, Sony was named in the exact same document. Still, Nintendo is the company that's considered the one that actually cares about its fans.

That remaster is coming on other systems besides the Switch. Why don't you knock them down for getting the same 7 years old game too?

And why wouldn't people praise Dark Souls? That game is indeed great.

This is the problem right here folks... Nintendo won that generation. Just because casual gamers like it, doesn't mean it's a shitty console. Why are casual gamers and female gamers disregarded.

While Nintendo does have a lot of fan boys who defend them and buy their products no matter what, this is simply not true for most people. If that was the case the Wii U still would have sold well. A lot of people criticize Nintendo for a lot of reasons and they should. Nintendo makes great games, but they aren't always the most consumer friendly company. People should get on every company if they aren't doing the right thing.

Thinking about it until the switch Nintendo have had one successful console since the SNES. The handheld market and got them out of trouble.
