Shame on them for trying to make as much money as possible. The Wii is still $250 because Nintendo is being an arrogant self indulgent ass of a company right now.

Consumers care about results not technology.
Do you know what you people don't get? The people buying a wii don't give a damn about the PS3 or 360. They don't care about the BS value, they don't give a damn about the games and they don't see Mircosoft or Sony as worth their time. They buy the Wii because it is the console that appeals to them. The PS3 and 360 are irrelevant as to why the wii will keep selling. Because of this, it doesn't matter what the competition is priced at.
ActicEdge
But do you think that the same thing is going to happen for next gen? I don't think so.

When we see what next gen is then I'll comment. Right now, this is all I know and this is all I'll comment on.

Especially when the concept is such a simple one. This either goes to show the average age of people that visit System Wars, or how ignorant the average System Warrior is. Mind, the latter could include the former.
time and time again many posters in this forum prove that they do not know what they are talking about
it's harsh, but true
i get a good laugh out of the good ol' "nintendo should sell the wii for $100" comments on here
it's hilarious because these people really believe in what they type
if these same people were in charge of nintendo, they'd bury that company into the ground within months.
The Wii is still $250 because Nintendo is being an arrogant self indulgent ass of a company right now.
amaneuvering
The PS3 went from $600 to $300 so the Wii should've been able to go from $300 to $100 or free.
patriots7672
I'll say it again, some of you guys need to stop playing videogames for a second and take an economics **** Sony did not lower the price to $300 because they wanted to be nice to their customers. They did it because the PS3 was getting outsold everywhere by the competition and they were forced to make a price cut or face the risk of being knocked out of the console market.
The Nintendo Wii, on the other hand, is selling more than the 360 and PS3 month after month. If the product is selling well, why would Nintendo drop the price? We will only see a price cut if there is a significant dip in sales of the console. Nintendo isn't evil or arrogant, they are trying to make money like every other company out there. You guys need to educate yourselves on how the real world works and get rid of that childish view that companies will lower their prices simply to make you happy.
let me ask you a question, if sony was making $150(i am assuming this is the profit on teh wii) and was selling as much as wii is, do you think sony would cut the price? the answer is no, if your making alot of money and people are buying your product, why would you lower the price, company cares about money not people.adman66
because oddly enough, if I put myself in nintendos shoes, and the other 2 companies cut their price, their consoles might start selling more than mine? Sounds kind of funny to say since they're so far ahead, but maybe they'll cut the price hoping the PS360 won't catch up in sales and to stay far ahead of the competition. It's not totally farfetched.
From a customers standpoint, I can see people saying.
hmmm, Wii $250? If I spend 50 more bucks, I can play blurays too, or for just a cheap I can have an awesome library of games and awesome online services. Now do I want to play blurays? play games? or waggle?
If the Wii was $150 dollars, that's 100 bucks cheaper than the competition and people will still see it as the better buy. That's how the Wii (imo) started winning this gen anyways.

Yeah, that could be the case. But lets take the $150 profit example. If Nintendo is able to sell 1,000,000 units at its current price to get the current profit, that's $100,000,000 they would have lost if they cut the price to your $150. That's a big chunk of change to lose unneccssarily. And you don't want to be the business guy at Nintendo responsible for pulling in less money. Especially when Nintendo doesn't have other sources of income to fall back on (compared to Sony and MS)
All these companies do market research up the wazoo. I'm sure they have a good handle on things. And I wouldn't be surprised in N has a price cut ready to go if they see the other two creeping up in sales. And they are certainly not going to look desperate by a knee-jerk cut now because the other last places systems did the same.

Imo, the Wii was one of the best options from a consumers standpoint because it was by far the cheapest, but now there's quite a few options for the same price, or 50 bucks more.

Yes, it doesn't mean it will outsell the competition at a cheaper we price, but it has this gen. I know it's not due to the pricing alone, because we all know nintendo has done a lot more advertising this generation than they have for last, and it caters to a larger variety of the population who wants to game. I still think the pricing played a factor in the console selling so well. I see your point with the 360 arcade, but I don't think the arcade offered enough to warrant a purchase over a Wii.
I feel if the generation started with all 3 consoles closer in price, it would have caused a much larger threat to nintendo than it has now. I still feel it poses somewhat of a threat, even if it's minimal. My point is that there's more options at the same price or for a little more and they're way better options than a console without features such as a harddrive and without the ability to play in HD (arcade).

thats kinda like saying if mercedes were more closely priced to hondas they would sell more... sure its true, but they dont for various reasons
i see what you mean, but when it comes to consoles, the population seems to pick one and run with it... there hasnt been a close gen (in terms of hardware sales for 1st and 2nd place) since the SNES days
but there is 1 factor though: the Wii appeals to more people than the ps3 and 360...
why are there so many threads on this???? the wii is popular, so Nintendo chooses to keep the profit high.. it's really not difficult to understand....
I agree with you that it caters to a wider population's tastes, but I think the price was one of the reasons the console looked so appealing. Parents aren't going to want to buy their kid a $400 dollar console when you can buy one for just about half the price...and for all they know they have similar games.
For the Wii you've got a wide variety of games, from cooking, to aerobics, to first person shooters and so on. You've also got a price cheaper than the rest of the consoles.
A cheaper price is a Pro when choosing a console. If comparing 2 consoles you want, but one has the cheaper price and you really want both, that would seem like the more plausible option. It's harder for me to justify my purchase of a Wii if it's priced the same as the 360. There's another option which makes the choice harder, and if I didn't own a PS3, the 360 may seem like a pretty good option.
that's just my opinion though, and I'll feel much better buying a Wii when the price has dropped as well.

yeah, but the average consumer doesnt know what we know in regards to videogames.
this comparison has been done before, but the Wii is like the ipod... the ipod is overpriced compared to other mp3 players that offer alot more... but its still easily outselling the them

definitely got me there. I could try to argue that the iPod is by far superior in terms of that type of technology with so many different options on top of being a mp3 player, whereas nintendo isn't in terms of graphics or being a media center, but they took a gimmicky direction with it that the average consumer "bought". but then again, your point still holds. I'll leave it at that because I don't know how to otherwise address your reply without sounding even more like an idiot -_-

lol! nah... you didnt sound like that to begin with so its all good
it shoud be no more than 150$ IMO. The wii is such a joke its not even funny. The system has 6 TOTAL AAA on Gamerankings, 3 of them exclusive , and out of all 6 of those games, 3 of them are ports/rereleases of last gen titles. not only that, but its literally an over clocked gamecube that has inferior graphics and shares code with PS2 games, it uses a dumbed down controller, meaning the controls have to be simplified making the gameplay inferior to even the PS2 versions in most cases unless the devs come up with some groundbreakingly creative way to utilize the motion control in a way people will actually give a **** about. And on top of that, they only sell you HALF THE FRIGGIN CONTROLLER!!:lol:You can get a 120gig ps3 for 300 bucks
You can get a 120 gig 360 elite for 400 (soon to be 300 I hope)
The killer is the 360 arcade for 200 that's 50 less than the Wii.
The games on the wii are mostly rubbish and the graphics are 480p original xbox style or worse. The audio just hurts my ears and the online is not even worth talking about unless your into the weather. I sold my wii for $500 and that was the best time I had with it. My gaming pc is just so pretty to watch and listen to at times I just hug it and say this is to good to be a game.
The one thing good about the wii is it is almost indestructable from what I have heard anyway.

so much fail....
its always these alternate accounts that spew the most biased statements
I think it's good at where it is because it's selling really well, but if I had to choose one,it'd be $200.
Wii sells good because it's a game console for all the members of the family. I'm actually buying one this upcoming holiday. I'm already a PS3 owner so having a 360 would make a mere difference considering the fact that they have almost the same games and only few exclusives.
so much fail....

how many of those statements are fail in your mind? was it the part where I said the system has 6 total AAA?or the part where I said it had vastly inferior hardwere to 360/PS3? or the fact that you have to buy 2 parts to their gimicky controller (which has less input options than the PS2 and even the Gamecube controler does meaning dumbed down gameplay, aka Rail shooters and special "Wii Versions" of multiplat games) which most games require either to get the full experience of the game, or most of them just to even play the game at all. not only that but for $200 and $300 you can get a PS3 or 360, each with superior graphics and more than double (360 almost tripple) the # of AAA titles. the PS2 had more AAA's EXCLUSIVELY on the system at LAUNCH (note I said exclusively) than the Wii has TOTAL AAA (multiplats included) entering its 4th year.:| seriously, the wii has got to be the biggest joke of a platform ever.

BIAS? You cant be BIAS when you compare photos. The Conduit is the best looking game on the wii. Technically. You may feel as if other games are more ARTISTICALLY better, but The Conduit has the best graphics on the Wii.
Uncharted 2 has better graphics. Its as simple as that.
