Wii 2 (Project Cafe) may not have a hard drive. Just 8gb of Flash memory

One of the main weaknesses of the Wii was the fact that it only had 512mb of Flash memory. Well fear not, since the Project Cafe will support a massive 8gb of Flash memory. 320gb hard drives are so last gen.

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/03/wii-2-rumors-only-8gb-of-storage-25gb-discs-and-1080p-isnt-a/

So yeah, if this report turns out to be true, then don't expect the Project Cafe to have good online apart from unified Friend Codes. Knowing Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if it is true. Plus no 100% guarantee of 1080p at this stage :|

Nintendo, cutting corners on hardware as usual. No surprise here.

If true, that's almost as pathetic as 4 gig 360s.

Online is gaming? Also, I don't care about what kind of storage device is used, I just care that it sotres my games! And I don't see how anyone could possibly fill a 320 gig hardrive. Of course, there are people who have, so go figure. (I know about installing games, but even so.)

At this point, even if Nintendo did something "right", they'll still be complaints.

Actually worse. A 4gb Xbox 360 can be upgraded with a hard drive. Meanwhile, a Project Cafe may only be upgraded with an SD card. Unless Nintendo decides to add a HDD slot (highly unlikely)

You'd be suprised i managed to fill up a 1tb almsot completly have to delete stuff periodically to make room a 2tb or preferably a 3tb would be great. As for consoles 320gb is plenty for a current gen console but for a next gen console 8gb is pathetic i can't imagine how easily that will fill up and 32gb sd cards cost $55 its great for camreas and other small form factor devices but for a console that stays hooked up in one place thm ajority of the time it would be an epic fail on nitendo part to not include a hardrive really hoep this rumor is not true.

I like how all this rumors are always true...oh wait, they are always wrong, and being realistic, Friends Condes will continue, that's pretty much a given having in mind 3DS.

DD anyone? 8 GB...this pretty much means all that you can download from the Wii store are small games or last-gen/Wiiware/SNES-like games...but not full retail expansions like those for GTA4 or other DLC...this also rules out install options of games to make the system run quieter and get better performance...and furthermore rules out any multi-media approach they could have gone for. In other words, Nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot by not living up to standards. It was hard enough for hardheaded Microsoft to catch up to standards Sony set with their PS3 and the 360 was pretty late to the party but they still managed. It's moves like these Nintendo doesn't get the 3rd party support they really need.

HAven't used more than 3 GBs on PS3? Installs can take up to 5 gigs, movies are 3 or 4 gigs, demos and PSN games are like 2 gigs, and saves alone can be a few gigs combined.

This rumor doesn't make much sense. Wii 2 will have a disc up to 25gb, yet the storage for the system will have only 8 gb? How can you download any sort of DLC in HD with only 8 gb. Sounds bogus to me.

Are you guys mental? You would rather pay 100 for a small HDD while spending half of that for the same amount of flash memory? And it doesn't produce heat so we don't have to worry about overheating and it can run from the inside of a furnace if it wants.

wii game disk are around 8gb and the internal storage is a measly 512mb so in terms of game disk size to built in storage its a large improvement over the wii.

Raw storage wins in this case especially in dollar per gb you get a much better deal with storage even with overpriced microsoft hardrives $88 for a 250gb hardrive vs $119 for a 64gb sd card.

Well Im actually assuming to be honest. I have 1 PSN game and just a bunch of saves. I doubt that exceed 3 GB really.

Didnt know updates took up HDD space. They dont for the Wii and 360 IIRC.

You probably won't HAVE to be looking at both screens at the same time, you probably could turn the screen off for all we know. Anyways, rumors are rumors, I must say this sounds highly unlikely if Nintendo really is trying to please 3rd parties. However if it is true that would be incredibly stupid on Nintendo's part.

Some rumors in recent times have actually been true. The PS3 Slim, 360 Slim, PSP Go, Kinect, NGP have all been rumored/speculated before they were announced. For example, we knew the NGP had a rear touchpanel before it was announced, thanks to rumors. While not all rumors are true, some can be. And since this rumor is about Nintendo downplaying hardware (something they would normally do), I kind of believe it :P

Probably to keep costs down, but I hope they include something that allows people to expand their memory, another SD slot maybe but hopefully one that'll allow for a higher class and capacity SD card.

Quite possibly the DUMBEST thing to offer in a console (if true), especially in this day and age.

You can get a 500GB HDD for dirt cheap today, how the hell is this cutting corners? More like "we're Nintendo, screw you gamers, we want to be different, wah, wah, wah!!!"

It's a game console. For games. Why would I want to store music or photos on it? And you probably don't install your games on it either because a) it's not as loud as the jet engine of the 360 and b) not as slow as the snail blu-ray drive of the PS3. Did you need to install games on the Wii? No? Wow, I wonder why not. The only valid complaint I've seen in this thread is that you wouldn't be able to download large DLC but any step away from DLC is a step forward in my book. Instead of sitting around whining I will wait for the actual console and see what games it offers.

With only 8 gigs, you can have harldy any DLC, downloadable games, movies, videos, music, or installs. I don't see how people can defend such terible design choices, what about the terrible online and graphics of the Wii, were they not that bad either?
