Well, this proves a lot. What this proves is that somebofy in the gaming media is lying. If these rumors from Kotaku (and possibly the rumors about Feel) were true, then this would proably be real.

The recent rumors lead to a slightly less powerful game console with a major feature to make it stand out against the competition. In comparison, when IGN, 01Net, and 1UP were discussing the system, they were saying it will be more powerful than the 360 and PS3, major third-party support, and a revamped online service. These are two different console ideas that contradict one another, where people are saying Nintendo is trying to appease "hardcore" gamers again.
In conclusion, it seems Kotaku, Loading, and that-website-that-will-not-be-named may be right about the new console. Since this generaton, Nintendo stopped trying to appease "hardcore" gamers, They can't continue releasing the same console as the other competitors every generation because they didn't have any support (and if the Gamecube proved anything, is that there isn't much support for a "true" hardcore Nintendo console). Instead of trying to be a "me too" console, Nintendo tried to differentiate themselves with the DS/Wii, trying to change their image in the process. Because of this, Nintendo became the top gaming hardware company.
A Few years ago, Nintendo gave some hints on some about the Wii 2, saying it will be smaller than the Wii and will feature a mobile quad-core processor. This contradicts the many rumors being said by IGN, saying it will have the same size and processor as a 360. If anything, many of the rumors coming from these sources will end up not being true. Instead, we're probably going to see something similar to the picture above: a small console with decent enough hardware for Nintendo and a new feature that will excite many people and anger others (something thats happening now). I wouldn't be surprised if this modem-looking hardware turns out to be true. It appears smaller than the Wii and also has the rumored Gamecube + screen controller behind it, but we won't know until Nintendo gives us full details.
