I take this with a grain of salt. The guy admits that he came into the game wanting to hate it and wow, surprise surprise he hates it. Thats a major issue I have with video game "journalist". They don't seem to have any real training in being a journalist and they don't stick to unsaid rules that you see followed by people who review music, movies, books, etc like no blatant fanboyism (or at least warning that you're a fanboy), going into a review wanting to hate what you're reviewing, and a variety of things that add professionalism to the trade.
I didn't understand when he bashed the game for not having a music maker mode. Is he saying that the unreleased GH:WT and MTV Music Maker are the only good music games (since those are the only ones with a music maker mode)?
He's upset that there aren't modern songs... but if i'm correct isn't the game based around an orchestra? The last time I heard an orchestra on Pop radio it was Bittersweet Symphony and that was just a sample... and it was like a decade ago.
"To its credit, the game allows you the freedom to pepper songs with your own ****-- you can add notes, hold notes, and alter pitch with some items, a truth enhanced by the fact that there is a robust list of instruments to choose from, some 60 total. But when all is said and done, you're not so much creating as you are modifying songs, so if you're accustomed to really taking the reigns of your videogames, I think you will be left wanting more from Wii Music's setup."
Once again, outside of MTV Music Generator and an unreleased game, what current music game (Rock Band, Guitar Hero) isn't like this? Rock Band 2 is brand new and is just like this AND it has no music editor mode yet the reviewer didn't drop off 5 points because of it.
