Are you telling me that hardcore gamers should be happy with 2 games coming out each year?

Do hardcore gamers just buy Nintendo first party games and nothing else?
In all honesty, Nintendo has had abysmal 3rd party support going all the way back to the N64. I'd be willing to bet that the game library of most people who own a N64, Gamecube or Wii is like 70% Nintendo published games. That is the reason to buy a Nintendo console. Nintendo has an approach to making games that nobody else has.
I think its kinda like an unspoken rule that you don't buy a Nintendo console for hyper-violent M rated games unless you just wanna dissapoint yourself. Meanwhile you don't buy a Sony/MS console if you're looking for platformers and games that can be fun and not hyper violent at the same time... unless you're happy with only buying like 1 or 2 games a year.
I don't think a hardcore gamer can be 100% satisfied with only a Wii, but I do think a hardcore gamer (from my age group at least) will always consider buying a Nintendo system to pick up the titles and types of games that simply aren't made by anyone but Nintendo.
I respect Nintendo cuz they make games that are good only because they are fun. They seem to really sit down and analyze things. I can see them being like, "yes thats cool, but is it fun?" and actually rejecting it if its fun factor value was too low, regardless of how cool it seemed.
What age group are you in? I'm entering my 30s. I would assume that more people in my age group do not play video games and Nintendo has successfully done well to reach out to this group. That's why the Wii is selling massive amounts right now.
I do think that Nintendo has tried to go for the M crowd with games like Eternal Darkness and Geist. They just haven't been too successful and they're probably better off leaving that to third parties. This gen it seems like 3rd parties are kind of filling this gap with games such as Fatal Frame IV, The Calling, that one game with the monks (can't remember right now), Resident Evil, Dead Rising, House of the Dead, Mad World, No More Heroes, and probably other stuff. This seems like a good situation to me cause Nintendo can concentrate on their strengths and 3rd parties can fill in the gaps in between.
This is why the 360 and PS3 are looked upon as successful. What MS and Sony cannot make they have 3rd parties fill in. Look at the JRPGs that have been released. Mostly 3rd party games with a few 2nd party. This is the best way to run a system because not one company is able to cover all the genres for players. I've said that 3rd parties are important because they bring games that fill out a line up and make it better around the 1st party games.
This gen it appears that this will start happening for Nintendo. Yeah, there's definitely a lot of subpar games that are being released, but the good games take time and no one predicted the Wii would be this successful. A lot of third parties are starting to focus on releasing games for the Wii and the fruits of their labor are starting to show. Look at Marvelous' line up. 90% of their games are for the Wii and they have many of them coming out in 2009. EA and Activision are beginning to understand the sales potential of the Wii and they're also planning more projects for it. Guitar Hero 3 sold extremely well for Activision and it's a million seller for them.
I think the Wii is starting to come on to its own after a slow start. Things will get better and more support will round out its library.
