Are you forgetting that we are good for at least 3 GTAIV games using the same technology before we get 5? 5 will be WELL into next gen where either Microsoft is using Blu-Ray/HD-DVD or digital distribution.
So the answer, is that it doesn't matter.
i dont see why not, usually the problem with blu-ray is that you cant compress audio nor video, which in turns causes the game to take up more space then it shouldstika
Did you just make that up ? :? Why the hell would it be impossible to compress stuff on BD ?

i didnt say its impossible, i say that usually it is not compressed, many of the PS3´s games use uncompressed audio or video, because the blu-ray player on the PS3 has a slower disc reading speed

Stop dodging the question - ok, lets change that to demolish a completely lame attempt at evasion - will the NEXT GTA fit on DVD9. You know that it won't.

Uh, I didn't evade a thing. Think for a second. The next GTA will be using the EXACT same technology as IV, so will the one after that. The games will fit no problem on a DVD9. The problems with GTAIV never came from DVD9, they came from a lack of standard HDD.
You fail. Miserably.

Oh I fail, do I? Well you're not going to like my pointing out how you just self-owned yourself. The very reason the 'lack of a standard HDD' IS a 'problem', is because a standard HDD would have been needed to make up for the lack of space on the main medium. If the 360 had of had a HDD as standard, then Rockstar could have made the game bigger, because they could have used the HDD to make up for space. The fact that it doesn't have a HDD as standard, means that Rockstar can't use it, so they have to fit everything on DVD9. Creating the 'problems' you're talking about.
Nice self-own.

If Microsoft release another console that soon, it'll mean the 360 was a failure and wasn't capable of staying in the fight with the PS3.
You should ask yourself will the PS3 need a mandatory install from GTA IV?
I'm betting yes... Since BR is so slow and the radio stations would lag up the PS3 while it's trying to load parts of the game while your flying or driving.

I know, and since the 360 doesn't have a HDD as standard, it means that if GTA V is to appear on it, it'll have to somehow fit on DVD9.

Care to back up your exact statement with a link? Because I can evidence pretty easily what developers use a standard HDD for...Devil May Cry 4 and Hot Shots Golf 5 say hello. They required 5 gig installs just to load 1-2 seconds faster, eating up the hard drive. GTAIV will no doubt have loading that Rockstar wanted to do away with by using an HDD. You don't download content onto the HDD, you stream it off of there to eliminate loading times. Videogames 101 here...come on now I know you deep down you can understand...
What you don't seem to understand in the world you live in where Blu-Ray is the answer is that gaming companies can't justify making games as big as YOU think they should be. Case in point? Microsoft gets hours and hours of extra content that PS3 owners do not get. Why not just put all of that on the Blu-Ray? I mean it has the space and the 360 has to download it...Because they don't have the money to put that in for free that's why. Microsoft paid the money to finance the additional content, so only Microsoft customers get it.
So go on, find the exact statement from Rockstar that says, "We want to require the HDD on the 360 so that we can make the game bigger and better for free." And I will believe it.

xbox 3 could launch this year and 360 wouldnt be a failiure ( not for me anyway )and since when was the ps3 and 360 "fighting"? lol u dont see them swinging lefts and rights at each other :P
Oh my god, the fanboyism has blinded them so much that they can't see! This reminds me of Nintendo fanboys back in the late 90's who couldn't accept reality.

"The 64 will have all exclusives by 2000, on carts".
And look what happened there. Face facts, DVD9 has no place beyond 2010/11.

Not for you anyway, but from a business standpoint it would be. Seriously, take off those fanboy blinders. What happens when you release consoles too often to try and one-up the competition? You end up like Sega, thats what.

I'm still waiting for a response to my statement?
I'll keep going though. What good is all the space on a Blu-Ray disc if the PS3's disc drive can't read it fast enough?

an HDD magically makes more content appear? They would still have fit it on one disk anyway. The point of the HDD wasn't to make more content but make it so there isn't any loading. Rockstar even said that the game is the size that they wanted it to be. They planned all along to have a smaller game than previous games, just make what is there more lively and interesting.

What statement? The one where you basically say Blu-Ray isn't necessary? That was so lame it didn't even deserve a nod. MGS4 is 50gb. And already compressed. And this is only 2008. COD4 developers said that the blood-splatter effects seen in single player were possible in multiplayer, but they couldn't do it because of DVD9.
You're even more delusional than those Nintendo 64 fanboys.

I want a link to MGS4 being compressed. Because Kojima has said time and time again that the sound in MGS4 is best left UN-compressed. And that he didn't want to bother with the compression.
If Blu-Ray is necessary then why is Uncharted only 8 hours long? Why is Heavenly Sword 5? Where is the PS3's Mass Effect? Why didn't the original PS3 Oblivion have all the 360's downloadable content on the Blu-Ray disc to begin with? Why are load times longer? Why are multi-plats worse looking? All of the things you say Blu-Ray does for gaming it hasn't even done yet for the PS3! So how is it necessary RIGHT NOW?
I love my PS3 to death, but never will you get me to think Blu-Ray was necessary, because it just plain isn't.
I want a link to MGS4 being compressed. Because Kojima has said time and time again that the sound in MGS4 is best left UN-compressed. And that he didn't want to bother with the compression.TheSystemLord1
Actually, I may have been wrong about that - or at least I can't find a link to back it up. But the point remains, MGS4 is 50gb. At least. And this is only 2008.
If Blu-Ray is necessary then why is Uncharted only 8 hours long? Why is Heavenly Sword 5? Where is the PS3's Mass Effect?TheSystemLord1
Because they're appearing relatively early in the PS3's life. Look at the amount of disc space taken up by San Andreas in comparison with PS2 launch titles. How many PS2 launch titles used Dual-layered discs? You're getting desperate now. The term we're using is 'future proof'.
Why are multi-plats worse looking?TheSystemLord1
Like COD4? Or Burnout Paradise? This desperate excuse is from 2006. 360 fanboys seem to live in 2006. The 360 is easy to develop for as well. The PS3 isn't. You think this is a good thing? The reason for that is because devs are getting most of the potential out of the 360 now already, whereas with the PS3 they're only scratching the surface.
All of the things you say Blu-Ray does for gaming it hasn't even done yet for the PS3! So how is it necessary RIGHT NOW?TheSystemLord1
Umm, the PS3 isn't even one year old in major areas like PAL regions. And it was designed to last even longer than the PS2. If you can't see what future proofing means, then I'm not even going to waste my time.
I love my PS3 to death,TheSystemLord1
Somehow, all 360 fanboys HAVE to get this statement in. lol.
tell me if i am wrong, but i thought i read somewhere that sony got exclusive rights back on the gta series after part 4.Lo_Rising
There has been a rumour that Rockstar is going PS3 exclusive completely after GTA IV.
I think TC that you should have asked the following, more pertinant, question;
Will the next version of GTA be released on time or will the agonisingly long and painful dev cycle for Sony's movie player push it back so far no one will care about it when it's finally released?

Timed, yes, but it would be idiotic beyond belief for them to do that, ESPECIALLY when MS is shooting barrels of cash at them for exclusive content.
It will if it has to. As with any other game.heretrix
Ok, it will if it has to. But what if it doesn't have to? What if squeezing/cutting it so heavily just isn't 'worth it' in comparison to the 360 install base in 2010? I mean yes, Rockstar could do it -- if the 360 was roaring ahead of every other console (in spectacular fashion), IF that happens, yes it would 'have to' Otherwise? They won't bother, basically. And trust me, that won't happen.
By then the 360 will be a distant 3rd, and Rockstar won't make that sort of sacrifice.
I think it'll come out next gen, with GTAIV coming out so late, and the two episodes, R* would need to develop teh games quick.wemhim
'Next gen' is at least 4 years away. Rockstar won't wait that long, why wait when you can make profit? A total of 3 GTA games appeared on the PS2.
Oblivion is a little over 4GB and has 16+ sq. miles of terrain, indoor enviornments, and dungeons. DVD will never be a problem.

GTAIII appeard 1 year after the gen started, GTAIV is appearing 2 and a half, THEN GTAIII went straight to VC, GTAIV is going towards TWO downloadable eps, also, next gen will probably being in late 2010, which is less than 3 years in the future, if that is indeed true. If GTA is viable on a platform that already has 17 million users, do you mean to tell me, 2 years from now (since we are speculating here) in which it could have DOUBLE that amount, Rockstar is going to say"Oh no, MS is in 3rd place we won't develop for that platform!"
Yeah, right.
GTAIII appeard 1 year after the gen started, GTAIV is appearing 2 and a half, wemhim
Nice try - but if this generation is already 2.5 years old (lol), that means you mean it started when the 360 launched. So by that token, you have to start the last gen at the Dreamcast. So GTA III appeared at least 2 years after the gen started. Or more accurately, the same time.
THEN GTAIII went straight to VC, GTAIV is going towards TWO downloadable eps, wemhim
You can't compare DLC with an entirely new game.
also, next gen will probably being in late 2010wemhim
You only wish. The 'next gen' will start in 2012 at the earliest. Just because the 360 has a short lifespan, it doesn't mean this generation will. If MS releases another console so soon, watch it bomb.
If it starts in 2012, sure they could, but I doubt this gen will last that long, EVERY other gen didn't, since the 70s.

It will start in 2012 at the earliest. The PS2 is still selling like hotcakes, yet you think we're going to go 'next gen' the year after next? lol. Stop trying to change facts and history just to appease the 360 not being future-proof.
Yes, but that's the perfect time for next gen systems, so it doesn't matter. I'm not a fanboy either, I could be wrong, but as far I'm concerned, when I pattern has been started since 1972 and has yet to change, it will remain, and that pattern is.....The next gen in 2010-2011 area. The 360 came out in 2005, 2010 or 11' would be PERFECT for the next one, especially 2011.Oh my god, the fanboyism has blinded them so much that they can't see! Don't be angry with me just because you're annoyed at being suckered into the 'Bluray is a necessity' marketing strategy from Sony.
Are you saying that GTAIV will fill a DVD9 completely? Are you willing to say that? If it doesn't then your whole argument about them cutting back on content this time is false and your argument about Bluray space being required is also false.
See my guess is that nothing was cut because developers are having a hard time getting content into these blockbuster titles because of budget and time constraints rather than space. For examples please see Uncharted, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm and R&C.
