You didn't really specify, so I'll try to answer this best I can...
Gran Turismo is Sony's Mario/Halo in terms of sales. It's a sales phenom that is forgotten in SW, but that's the answer if you are talking sales. GT is HUGE and it's regarded as Sony's Mario/Halo commercially. I'm not a huge car racing fan, nor do I care for sales, but there's the answer for you.
If you are looking for Iconic, I would suggest Sony's God of War over Killzone, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, or Uncharted. To each their own when talking Iconic though.
If you are talking critically, I would suggest Sony's LittleBigPlanet 1/2, Sony's MLB: The Show series, Sony's God of War 1-3, Sony's The Last of Us, or ESPECIALLY Sony's Uncharted 1/2/3.
Regarding 1st party titles: Sony creates a lot of games and release 1st party retail games year round as opposed to releasing a few titles at Xmas window like their console competitors, maybe one might consider they spread themselves thin making so many 1st games per year. That same person might recommend Sony Cancel multiple games, really work/concentrate on marketing only a few games a year instead, and just release a couple of 1st party games a year like the competition. Those games would sell better, presumably. I would have to ask though, as gamers don't we want more great games on the market? I beat a lot of games, so I enjoy more great games to choose from, not less.

Sorry to do this to you but Halo 1 is not an exclusive.
Gran Turismo sells better than Halo and Uncharted/TLOU ha great sales and better reviews. Uncharted, Little Big Planet, God Of War(excluding Ascension) were all IPs last gen than moved a ton of units with great critical acclaim.
I don't really keep up with Nintendo software sales.
Critically Uncharted and TLOU surpass any Halo game.
Where? The original Halo is ranked higher than TLoU and any UC game on Metacritic. The only place is GameRankings, which is very rarely used.
If you're specifying industry awards, you need to show evidence.

Here I was thinking that GT's sales success was firmly established by sales lovers in System Wars. I know I've answered this GT query multiple times before in years past in SW threads I'm fairly certain you were in.
My thinking is the winners there are Xbox and Playstation brands and the parent corps, not any of us...which is why I'm not passionate about sales, lol, since I don't see a dime for these games sales. I'll agree to disagree. It makes sense to directly compare both series, like the aforementioned individual was doing. Total sales figures are all well and good, but when one has been out 4 years it makes little sense to compare total sales. Your outline takes precendence though, I agree.

Mario dominated either in the time of there releases. But everyone knows Halo and Mario are the top dogs in the video game industry. That wasn't the question. The question is, will Sony ever..... EVER have a game franchise reach the success of EITHER Halo or Mario. And you subjectively use excuses because the answer is no. Sony does not own any franchise at either Mario or Halo's level.
You had to compare Uncharted and The Last Of Us "critically" (Yet no Naughty Dog title has critically matched Halo) and GT "in sales" (which since Halo has been on shelves, is simply not true). You tried to use 3 that's THREE franchise to match just one. AGAIN this proves my point. You have nothing at the success of either Mario or Halo.

Define "success". Do you mean sales, critical acclaim, or both?
How about period? Right now Sony has nothing to offer.
Well, if we're talking about the libraries of the PS4 and One, the One doesn't have anything that's received much more critical acclaim than any game on the PS4. It's really too early to tell which system has more to offer right now (this is the reason I don't buy consoles at launch).

Came off as snarky. If you weren't being snarky then my apologies. This is a stupid thing to be arguing about. If we had this discussion, I genuinely do not remember it. Point being, GT is a sales monster, I wonder how 7 is going to perform given Sony sorta botched 6 by releasing it so close to the PS4 launch.
Sony has a very different approach to first party game development than either Microsoft or Nintendo. Their model is not franchise centric, and they instead try to have a variety of experiences be synonymous with their brand, instead of just one franchise. Think of it as 'Jack of all trades, master of none.' They aren't trying to give you one mega franchise like Microsoft (or multiple, like Nintendo). They're trying to give you many relatively smaller franchises, and letting you choose from among them what you want for yourself.
It's an admirable strategy, and I find myself warming up to it more and more.

Its a tad bit hypocritical isn't it
TC is a blind fanboy. Claims that overall sales between GT and Halo don't count because GT had a head start but yet uses sales to explain why Halo is better than Uncharted series.
He then says that it has to be exclusive and he uses Halo 1, which is NOT exclusive as his measuring stick for overall quality. TC is a blind Lem, can this thread be closed now?
