[QUOTE="niukas"]To be honest, Nintendo delivered this gen. I'm pretty happy with my Wii.HoldThePhone
i agree, and they still have a lot more potential. it's only been 2 years

Same here there is nothing wrong with the Wii being a gaming console for 'gamers', it's had many good game thoughout it's lifetime to make it worth owning and it's only been out for two years. 09 looks good for Wii and you arn't forced to buy anything you don't wont when you buy a Wii, like people make it out that you basically have too with all their complaning and bagging of the Wii so really I don't see anything wrong with Nintendo this gen. Yes 08 was a pretty bad year with only a few good exclusives for Wii, De blob, No More Heroes, MK:Wii, SSBB, Wario Snake it and Blast Works. But at least next looks to be a good one and 07 was fantasic year for Wii.

so what wii game by nintendo have you tried, if you dont mind me asking? Rahnyc4

Wiisports, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers Charged and Super Paper Mario. Other than Twilight Princess, Corruption and Excite Truck, none of the games really interested me that much at all.

TP was good fun but I've never had as much fun playing the 3D Zelda's as I have A Link to the Past (Wind Waker is great but I am still playing through it and I have to get a N64 before I can play Majora's Mask).

Corruption was fantastic but changed a lot about what Metroid was all about. It focused more on the shooting and less on the exploring. The addition of a spoken narrative was good but the lack of Samus getting a voice was extremely disappointing (especially considering she has full dialogue in Fusion on the GBA). It didn't feel as much like "Metroid" as the previous two Prime's and all the other Metroid's (aside from Hunters of course, the full-on shooter that doesn't even resemble "Metroid" aside from the name and Samus).

Excite Truck was great fun and lasted me an incredibly long time when I got my Wii around launch.

Smash Bros. Brawl, like Melee, was just *way* too much like a fighter and not enough like the first, which I tore to shreds with friends back in the day. The original was much more like Powerstone and focused more on having fun and tossing crap at your friends instead of countering and bouncing around "strategizing."

I have absolutely no interest in playing Super Mario Galaxy... and after playing some Super Mario Sunshine I am even less interested. I really don't like where Mario has gone in 3D much like Zelda. I recognize they are fantastic games but they just aren't for me.

Nintendo is going in a direction that I cannot follow as a gamer. The games they are offering are great but just aren't for me anymore.

Gave up on them this gen. And E3 2008 just further justifies my distaste for the Wii. And I don't see Nintendo's approach for next gen ever changing. So, no I won't exactly support thier main console.

Except the DS.

Not yet but I don't like where their strategy is going?

Last year they were amazing but this year it just stopped. When Nintendo's inhouse games aren't better than the average third party dev you start to get worried, not only that Nintendo is getting worse as a developer but also the fact that third party devs havn't got a reason to try and do better games. Why would they if the console owner isn't?

What game do we really know that Nintendo is releasing next year? Wii Sports 2? Maybe Pikmin 3? Don't give me the "Nintendo is not announcing games early" when Wii sports 2, Mario Kart Wii, SSBB, MP3 and SMG was announced a year before they were released.

They aren't that supportive of the DS either this year with barely any new inhouse DS games, there is Advance Wars: Days of Ruin but that's it.

All I'm saying is that if it were MS that owned the Wii, games like Mad World and The Conduit would be published by them instead of Sega.

I sure have. Nintendo has realised that they can make tons of money off a console with motion controls, many family games, and last gen graphics. I highly doubt nintendo would make a powerful console next gen, seeing how much sucess in terms of sales the Wii is having. I just give up. This was the worst holiday season for the Wii. They havent realeased an AAA title for like six months, and that is pathetic! There are so many great games for the 360 and PS3 right now, I might not even be able to name all of them.

*NOTE* This topic is centered on the Wii, not the DS!

 great more threads. OK just beacuse you dont like nor like the grapchis or power that s your problem. all grapchis now are outdated so dont give me the last gen graphic crap.

no more heros... great family game... red steel great family game. recu great family game. god father great family game... scareface great family game.... yea.... with many family games  Nitnendo has tried the power console it never work.... god your annoying sell you wii to someone who derseve it.

So far this Gen is 100% better then the last gen for Nintendo Fans... Why whould they give up on Nintend...

Sure some think they've been forgotten because Nintendo takes forever to release it's core franchies... (Why do you think they are alwasy quality) but no the only reason it looks like Nintendo is only doing casual stuff is because of how quick they can pump that out, compared to something like Zelda...

Zelda is still coming out at the same pace it's alwasy been.... Same with Mario, and Metroid... Nintendo has alwasy been slow with it's Core games...

No i am saying power console dosent = better sales... as snes acutally hurt nintendo as well. lost thrid party support was sued... etc... way to controling over games. If that was the case xbox and cube should of one last gen.. but no.

The SNES was Nintendos greatest console. It had AMAZING third party support and Nintendo was sued with the NES.

SNES was a power console and it won in sales and games and no it didn't hurt Nintendo. What hurt Nintendo was the many mistakes they did with the N64.

Could be becuz Sony had a more open relationship with allowing crappy games on the ps1. That and the cdrom media had a big part in it.

That wasn't the the SNES fault. It was Nintendo's fault. Why should the fact that the SNES was a powerful console and the best games on it have anything to do with what Nintendo was asking from the third party devs.

SNES didn't hurt Nintendo. Nintendo hurt themselves. The EXACT thing would have happen if the SNES was weaker then then Genesis.

Another huge reason why Nintendo lost third party after SNES was because Nintendo refused to use CDs instead of cartridges. Cartridges was too expensive for a lot of devs so they left for Sony and PS1 (Squaresoft is the prime example).

Yes Nintendo lost support AFTER the SNES but that has nothing to do with the fact that the SNES was a very powerful console and won in sales and games.

2009 looks pretty good for the Wii, and I've been pretty satisfied with the Wii so far. That said, even if you don't think Nintendo delivered this gen, I don't know how you can give last generation a pass for Nintendo. Well actually, I do know. In retrospect, the Gamecube's library looks pretty good. But the Gamecube had some of the longest droughts in VG history, and if you compare the entire life of the Gamecube to the first 2 years of the Wii, that's going to be a one-sided comparison.

Well a huge difference is that Nintendo tried some new stuff last gen when it comes to core games.

Metroid Prime was a revolution, Pikmin was superb, Geist was a huge gamble.

Nintendo has always been an innovator when it comes to push games further, not in sales or reach but in gameplay in each generation. Nintendo was always the dev to count on when a new gen arrives to see what the masters have done. This gen they have taken a backseat and are pumping out great games even superb ones but non really revolutionary.

The SNES had Super Mario World, Super Metriod and A Link to the Past

The N64 had Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of time.

The Gamecube had Metriod Prime and Pikmin.

The Wii has? Wii sports?

Gameplay over graphics was the huge mantra for Nintendo fans this gen and they said it often to almost ashame PS3 and 360 owner that they only care about graphics. The problem is Nintendo hasn't really improved the gameplay in any huge ways this gen and most of the innovative new gameplay pushers are on the other (shallower with only graphics as stated by the Nintendo fans) systems.

Nintendo is still a great dev but they aren't the great innovator in gameplay as they once were.

Guybrush_3

You do realise that sony went nearly 2 years without making a AAA game.

Then what do you call MGS4, which is pretty much 100%? or little big planet which got 95% on metacritic? or Resistance 2(90%)? and Uncharted(which got 89% on metacritic altho its user scores were alot higher)? or ratchet and clank tools of destruction which GS failed with the review while it got 90% on metacritic. Or wipeout HD which got 87% on metacritic altho it really deserves more credit? And motorstorm pacific rift which is around 85% on metacritic but bloody fun?

and warhawk(around 85% as well, but is damn good)

heaps of games for the holiday season, and straight afterwards is KILLZONE 2 then God of war 3 later in the year and GT5 soon. Plus all the great multiplatform games to last all year round like cod4 or gta4 or dead space or assassins creed or Bioshock, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Fallout 3, Prince of persia and alot more.

All of which are never comming to the wii. The wii lacks many games. Too much shovelware. And only a couple of great titles like SMG and SSBB(gets boring fast tho). Nintendo thinks thers no need to make its fans happy since thier still selling even tho i dont see a good game in sight(cos of the good old non-gamer market...). ...Wii music..anyone?

no this gen i got zelda tp (great), mario galaxy (perfect), smash bros (great), metroid prime (good), and mario kart (okay) .. to me, these are the best of their 1st party titles surely there's more to come this gen, it just takes time (3 years on average i think) .. so we may still get f-zero, starfox, probably kid icarus and more they haven't abandoned the traditional gamer, they just can't make quality games fast enough .. meanwhile, their new divisions are making the wii sport, wii fit casual games that are making loads of money, but the old teams are still hard at work like in previous gens this is highlighted by the lack of good 3rd party exclusives, so all the pressure is on nintendo to deliver the goods if they were complete sell-outs only interested in money, we'd be getting mediocre zelda and mario titles every year

Isn't it still a little early to write them off though? for all we know in the last couple of years Nintendo could release the greatest Zelda ever along with a SMG sequel and a 2D metroid :D and dare I say it a new IP for core gamers is even possible :o. If they carry on like they are I probably wont buy their next console at launch at least anyway...

Isn't it still a little early to write them off though? for all we know in the last couple of years Nintendo could release the greatest Zelda ever along with a SMG sequel and a 2D metroid :D and dare I say it a new IP for core gamers is even possible :o. If they carry on like they are I probably wont buy their next console at launch at least anyway...SapSacPrime
why write off the no.1 in the industry sometimes SW seems to be out of this world

wow you just wont listen to anything i say..... it didn't than why did half of thrid party support left nintendo after snes? why.... hmmm... maybe cause nintendo control to much over the qualitty of game... for the system.JLF1

I am saying it happening during snes so yes it did hurt them. saying it didn't hurt them. and of course it hurt them with snes when you had sega Geninis competteing as well. yea well i can tell you right now that developers are hyporcrits . :| best games? mmmm thats only an opioion on what are the best games.

that is not a fact. If power console are suppose to win than why haven't one since snes? i wonder....

Yes, the next console will be called Yuu. Rather than focus on casual gaming in the family, it's a console focused only on you. That way they can cash in more money because then every member of the family will have to buy one, family of 5? 5 Yuus right there. It's win win for them.

This generation I have already given up on Nintendo already simply because they don't have anything to offer lately, and the number of great titles haven't been there lately. Next gen if they do the same thing I will follow the same path like right now, because I don't intend to play the party games that Nintendo have put out.

well the so called droughts of titles happened all the time with nintendo.. its the side effect that nintendo consoles are often only being supported by nintendo themselves and no one else.. which is the case this gen (and nintendo is raking in money like crazy because of that)

the same happened to the DS as well..

with the exception of some notable titles like final fantasy or dragonquest.. the million seller lists contains only nintendo titles.. if you go to 3 million + titles its only nintendo pretty much

Nah. People complaining about Wii never owned/played a Nintendo system. If so, they've been cryogenically frozen since the SNES era and woke up saying, "Nintendo still gets bloody games and is the king of 3rd party support, right? Since the N64 all you could expect out of Nintendo is 1 mario platformer, 2 Zelda games and some other first party stuff. So far they've delivered game of the year Mario platformer, AAA Zelda, AAA Metroid. They haven't changed since the N64. You either like Nintendo games or you hate them. The Wii gets alot of shovelware, but cows and lems act like Ninty puts guns to people's heads and forces them to buy it. Most of the Wii shovelware flops in sales compared to the good games... as it should be. I don't play FPS so for me, PS3 and 360 only get maybe 4 good games per year anyways. With the T-Company vs Capcom fighting game, Mad World, a glutton of JRPGs, and Nintendo syaing that they're working on a new Mario platformer and a new Zelda, their 09 looks better than 360 imo. All i'm interested in is Heavy Rain (for a console that I don't own and therefore will never play), Alpha Protocol and crossing my fingers for Mass Effect 2. I'm probably one of the only people who thinks that. When you look at Nov NPD, the top ranking 360/PS3 games were all shooters. For most 360/PS3 buyers, thats the only genre they are interested in
