I gave up on nintendo after I bought the GC. Oh_Lonesome_Me
What?!? The Gamecube was great!, Why are there people saying the Gamecube wasn't great? RE4, Twilight Princess, Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime 1 & 2, Seriously?!? The gamecube was great, those were all first party games too, except RE4.
never gonna GIVE YOU UP
never gonna LET YOU DOWN
never gonna run around and DESERT YOU
NEVER GONNA MAKE YOU CRY
NEVER GONNA SAY GOODBYE
NEVER GONNA TELL A LIE AND HURT YOU
i'm sorry but I just.. UN gave up on nintendo during the wii.. how can I give up on them after finally acknowledging them?
then again.. i jumped in last year and i'm definately jumping out this year.. no more support for ms, but enjoy their 09 which consists of halo and more halo
speaking of no AAA in six months, did you count how many exclusives the wii has vs the 360 this year? here's a hint, it's more
no credit for getting a third party AAAE original ip this year though, did MS get one? 2 superior multiplats this year as well..
The Gamecube was pretty meh, I skipped it. I'm totally loving the Wii as of late though, it was collecting dust in autumn, but my copy of Fatal Frame IV finally arrived + Tatsunoko x Capcom, Rune Factory, 428 all in the past couple of weeks.
Edit: And don't even get me started on DS, I had about 40 games for it at the beginning of the year, and now it's around 90, it will probably be over 100 by years end.
lol i absolutely hate this console.... outside their AAA titles, most of their games have terrible controls
lol i might buy the next console just because they said theres probably HD.... right now wii is an eye sore on my HD tv
Your HD must not be good at scaling then... The Wii looks great on mine.lol i absolutely hate this console.... outside their AAA titles, most of their games have terrible controls

GundamGuy0
lol na mine is top of the line, i have to admit the graphics on certain games like metriod and super galaxy look good
but other games just look terrible imo....actually i should go try my other wiii games... last week i played dragonball and it looked better than before for some reason hahahah
Unless Nintendo makes some serious changes and begins to care about hardcore gamers again as well as finally managing to get some decent third pary support then yes, I sure am.
At this point I'm confident that The PS4 and Xbox...whatever it's called this time will be the only two consoles in my entertainment center.
EDIT: Should Microsoft and Sony decide to go the Wii route next gen, then I'll be putting the money I would've spent on the next iterations of the Playstation and Xbox into a new PC and I'll become a full time hermit. Hopefully, they won't be stupid enough to abandon their core audience in the name of "expansion".
[QUOTE="Justinge3"]I sure have. Nintendo has realised that they can make tons of money off a console with motion controls, many family games, and last gen graphics. I highly doubt nintendo would make a powerful console next gen, seeing how much sucess in terms of sales the Wii is having. I just give up. This was the worst holiday season for the Wii. They havent realeased an AAA title for like six months, and that is pathetic! There are so many great games for the 360 and PS3 right now, I might not even be able to name all of them.

You do realise that sony went nearly 2 years without making a AAA game.
Did you just use LOGIC in SW?I think its funny everyone keeps saying Nintendo is abandoning its core audience, hell, it looks like they are doing the same thing they always have.dotWithShoes
You mean they've always dumbed down their games for the masses?

nintendo isn;t the only company thats guilty of doing this. Just look at the new prince of persia game. The fact of the matter is Nintendo is capable of making quality games. Metroid prime 3, SMG, and SSBB are indicators of this. After owning a GC last gen and the Wii this gen (not to imply I don't own other consoles as well), I have given up on them. The N64 was their last great home console imo.
Next gen I will definitely wait before owning a Nintendo home console.
Nah. People complaining about Wii never owned/played a Nintendo system. If so, they've been cryogenically frozen since the SNES era and woke up saying, "Nintendo still gets bloody games and is the king of 3rd party support, right? Since the N64 all you could expect out of Nintendo is 1 mario platformer, 2 Zelda games and some other first party stuff. So far they've delivered game of the year Mario platformer, AAA Zelda, AAA Metroid. They haven't changed since the N64. You either like Nintendo games or you hate them. The Wii gets alot of shovelware, but cows and lems act like Ninty puts guns to people's heads and forces them to buy it. Most of the Wii shovelware flops in sales compared to the good games... as it should be. I don't play FPS so for me, PS3 and 360 only get maybe 4 good games per year anyways. With the T-Company vs Capcom fighting game, Mad World, a glutton of JRPGs, and Nintendo syaing that they're working on a new Mario platformer and a new Zelda, their 09 looks better than 360 imo. All i'm interested in is Heavy Rain (for a console that I don't own and therefore will never play), Alpha Protocol and crossing my fingers for Mass Effect 2. I'm probably one of the only people who thinks that. When you look at Nov NPD, the top ranking 360/PS3 games were all shooters. For most 360/PS3 buyers, thats the only genre they are interested inSenor_Kami
Are you me? This is exactly what I think. The gaming industry is going down the tubes because of too many shooters. My theory is that the reason that FPSs have taken off so rampedly lately is because of the casual gamers. In this case it is the 20-30 year old casuals that are attracted to blowing out the brains of other living organisms. Sure there are the actual gamers who play these games, but I'd say that the majority are the above mentioned. Going on xbox live with a headset almost proves it.

There were loads of great N64 games between Rare and Nintendo back then.
Nintendo have vastly changed since the N64. Nintendo games are a shadow of their former selves.
Nintendo tried to make the GC like the PS1 by making it easy to develop for and making its games pick up and play, it also had stupid limitations (1.5 gb medium and 24MB ram) and far less interest by this point by the market.
What really makes it terrible though is just how shallow the games are because they are pick up and play orientated. Hardly any first party game I can remember on GC and Wii ever really holds my attention for more than like half an hour.

What games have been 'dumbed down'?The funny part is that next gen, MS and Sony will do the same thing Nintendo has done this gen.Zhengi

debateable indeed.
i dont think MS are going to be overjoyed with the 360s success simply because there not first and they havent completly recouped all costs. there first goal was to be first..which has failed. there second goal was to be profitable which is still waitn and see (there profitable now but what about losses incurred from the 360s launch?). out of sony and MS, i think MS are the most likely to do an about turn, a nintendo so to speak, for 2 reaons. 1) the sony strategy which MS used has come to an end. with sony hemoraging money from the PS3, MS wont want to repeat that mistake. nintys business strategy looks far more tempting now...far more sustainable. 2) they need to stop competing with themselves. the windows brand and windows itself is taking an almighty hammering and haveing both platforms underminign each other silly is not helping in the slightest. i think we are going to see a divide in MS between there console and PC gaming divisions simply becuase MS needs to give ppl reasons to upgrade their PCs and upgrade windows. by having a low end console using the wii strategy and aimed at a wider demographic (i hate to use the terms but hardcore and casual games from day 1), they can keep 2 distinct platforms that dont eat into each other and get a bigger lump of the pie. the last thign MS want at the mo is seeing alternative OSs getting a foothold in the home market. if that happens then game support increases..then more ppl take up linux and *does doctor cox impression* are u seeing the pattern here? :P.
sony on the other hand...well u have to understand the way sony thinks. they are a hardware company first and a multimedia company second. anythign less than cutting edge and sony simply cant understand why they would release it. also note that sonys definition of cutting edge is lots and lots of horsepower and very high benchmark figures. they also have huge stakes in music and movies among other things. i remember an interview a while back with one of the high end execs at sony when the EEEPC came out. he was asked somethign like "so will sony have an answer to the EEE PC?". he replied "no..we dont take steps backwards". this is sony personified...this is how they think and how they work. i could go on with other examples. the very idea of sony doing a ninty would, frankly, disgust sony. despite the PS3 not living up to playstation standards...they will not budge on this. if i had to predict the PS4 now i would say that the PS4 will be a multimedia center..it will be high end...it will benchmark very well and it will look very pretty. itll probably be a little easier to develop for but thats about the only concession sony will make. oh and i dont think theyll release for 600 dollars again..i thinkthey learned form that mistake. but id be pretty confident in saying that the PS4 will be the most expensive console next gen at launch by about 100-150 dollars.
so yea...sorry for the rant. but out of sony and MS, i think if either of them are going to do a nintendo..itll be MS.
[QUOTE="Zhengi"]The funny part is that next gen, MS and Sony will do the same thing Nintendo has done this gen.foxhound_fox
Lips, Scene It, and Avatars show that they are interested in that market. In fact, their goal is not to be the hardcore machine. Their goal is to be the entertainment hub in every living room and they're not going to accomplish that by merely catering to the hardcore. Sony has the same philosophy as MS. Zhengi

What does this have to do with anything I typed? So because there are core games that means you are going to ignore what MS has published to try to entice the non-gamer games? And how convenient of you to forget that Nintendo has more core games than non-gamer games released. Double standard or just flat out hating going on here?
The fact is that MS wants to increase the install base. They thought that going after the hardcore gaming audience will give them a PS2-like user base and this is turning out to not be the case. They will make changes next gen to become profitable and meet their goal of being that entertainment hub in everyone's living room. Sony will also work hard towards getting that 100+ million user base. Going all out for the hardcore is not going to accomplish that next gen if it didn't this gen. Failure after success doesn't not instill contentment and will force them to move to the current path that Nintendo has set for the gaming industry. There is no going back unless MS and Sony want to continue losing both money and market share.

So you're telling me the first Super Mario Bro's wasn't easy? That SMB3 wasn't easy? That SMW wasn't easy? That SM64 wasn't easy? They were all easy to win, Hell... SMB is beatable in 15 minutes.. under an hour if you go through every thing and finish it 'straight through'.. Thats how gaming should be. Should be easy enough for ANYONE to play, but have parts difficult enough for only the really good to do as well.I sure have. I agree with you. I don't know about the rest of you, but in my honest opinion, either 360 or PS3 should have been the ones winning the war so far instead of the Wii. Here's why.
OK, when the Wii first started out, debuting, it looked like such a good console to buy. There were lots of hype about it, & such. Lots of people wanted one & are buying them out in stores, (which was back in November of 2006). Now, fast forward to present, 25 months later. The Wii hype is dying down. People admitting that they regretted their purchase of it, people admitting that their Wii's are collecting huge amounts of dust, & people admitting that they haven't even touched their Wii systems in about a year or so. What happened here? What happened to all of the hype that it used to have? Poof, gone, diminished. It's now nothing more than a has been, nothing more than a flash in the pan. Plus it looks like that people are starting to wake up about it. I'm quite surprised at the 40 million or so gullible Wii owners, thinking that they're going to get hardcore games. Instead, they've been fed on junk, except for 1st party games. The point is, the Wii ain't nothing more than a over-hyped, hardcore, gimmicky piece of junk. I'm so happy that I chose to buy myself a used 60 GB PS3 over it back in April earlier when I made the decision.
And what a right one that I made. Look at the reasons at what we're getting for a measly $250 for the Wii.
1.) Expensive Virtual Console prices for such great ancient games; not to mention the fact that you can't even carry nor WiiWare games onto another Wii console, which means that should your precious Wii system gets lost or stolen, or if you even sell the thing, then you're SOL in that category.
2.) Casual, Gimmicky crap that gets real old after a while (Wii Fit, party games, etc.)
3.) Horrible Graphics.
4.) Terrible online (Come on, a "friends code" system?).
5.) No Audio CD or DVD playback.
6.) Most of the 3rd party game selection are PS2 ports, as well as remakes of games that we already played ages ago. The good number of games comes from their 1st party games.
Now, both the 360 & PS3 has a real selection of 3rd party games, better graphics, better online, can play CD's, DVD's, & Blu-Ray discs (PS3 only). Plus just like Nintendo, they both have an excellent selection of 1st & 2nd party games. Plus the prices of what you buy things from X-Box Live (including from X-Box Live Arcade) & PSN doesn't exactly cost too much.
It's got to be real hard for those people who are Wii fanboys, especially when they don't either have a 360 or a PS3 to go along with it, or refuse to purchase either one of them. They can go ahead & stick to their precious console all they want, but they're the ones that'll be missing out on a lot of great stuff that are out on the 360 & PS3, & then they'll regret it in the long run. how Nintendo managed to succeed with over 40 million owners is beyond me. It is both ridiculous, & ludicrous.

it can be applied to DS. they have the same "theme" so to speak. personally, i think wii only sells because its cheap and people who dont play video games end up buying it. MS and Sony are dropping prices while Wii has been the same since launch. If MS and Sony didnt shoot themselves in the foot, wii wouldnt be a big hit but supposedly there are more casual gamers than real ones.I already have. I gave up on them after the N64. IMO the N64 was Nintendo's last true console. Gamecube was a joke and same with the Wii. Yeah Nintendo does have quality there with SMG, SSBB, Metroid Prime 3, etc but what else is there? Majority of third-party game are shovelware and only a very small hand few of third-party games are decent. Most of those decent games are ports (RE4, Okami, etc). Nintendo seems to rely on the same franchises. Mario, Zelda, etc.
Yes I gave up on the Wii. After SSBB I only use my Wii for emulation purposes. Which is extremely sad considering I play 360 and PS3 daily. Nintendo seems to care more about non-gamers and releasing mediocre Wii franchise games (Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Music) then releasing quality games. Is this what Nintendo is going to be doing year after year? Release 1-3 core games and go all out casual for the rest? Give me a break. Nintendo is not what they use to be. Nintendo of today is a joke compared to Nintendo of the NES-N64 era.
