This month EGM had a massive three page article about Nintendo's approval process, or lack therof, and how it's turning Wii and DS into garbage dumps for shovelware. It's truly shocking how low Nintendo's standards for third parties are in comparison to MS and Sony, and they're not doing anything to rectify it. Also, they pointed out something that even I missed-- in 2003, Nintendo changed the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" to just plain the "Official Nintendo Seal." Basically, with Sony and MS, even though crap does end up on their systems, they at least have a huge approval process that devs must go through to minimize the ammounts of utter garbage on the system. Nintendo has no concept approval process at all though, so anything goes, including crap like Chicken Shoot which is a straight up port of a GBA game!TimstuffIt is why I do not have the wii yet.
I have my Wii for the games Nintendo makes.
And a few quality Third Party games.
Other than that, that's what I have my 360 for.

Isn't this coming from a publication that is on the edge of bankruptcy? Publishers want to make money. Thats why gaming sites are here to rank games.

EGM's parent company is going bankrupt, but EGM is still the #1 gaming mag in popularity. If Ziff Davis goes belly up, EGM will obviously be sold to another corporation like Viacom or News Corp (both of whom expressed interest in publishing it).

I really like EGM compared to the other publications as well. I need to read this article. Going to be interesting.
What do you expect from a System that practically caters to non-gaming casuals who don't know better?
Developers, most of them, are simply not taking the Wii hardware that seriously, despite the notorious claims of astronomical surging sales. Sure there are some games that are at least caliber to some degree that will be on Wii to cater to desperate sheep and some core gamers. But in actuallity, shovelware, minigames and more shovelware will and only flood the Wii library like the ebola virus. Simply because it caters to non-gaming casuals who don't give a damn about Red Steel or Manhunt 2.

Dude are you serious right now? I have NEVER seen as many crap games as were released for the PS2. How the crap do you think it wound up winning last gen. Kids buy SHOVELWARE. The byproduct of being the most popular system is an excess of these junk titles. Movie and TV tie-ins, Dora the Explorer games.....etc... etc...
You honestly wnat me to believe that at this point the PS3 would turn these games away? I call B.S. on that one.
*OH* wait, yeah they don't have to because nobody is making any games for the PS3 because it's tanking soo bad.
Part of the reason why i think Wii will not last as long as the other 2 consoles.Navy_SealzThe PS2 had the worst case of shovelware ever and it outsold the hell out of the others.

I'm basically on your boat on all of your statement.

Yes, but PS2 had hundreds of games to cover up a few bad ones, Wii does not.
So the PS2 generation cows were all casual non-gamers? I agree that they aren't taking the hardware seriously atm, but they will go were the money is and seeing as the sales are slowly, yet steadily dropping, they won't be able to spam shovelware. Shovelware has nowehere to go but down from now on. And its funny that you descripe sheep as being desperate since the only reason people own 360's is for Halo and the only reason people own PS3's is because they are gullible and desperate, I mean they threw out 600 bucks to play 1 or 2 games that won't even be out for another year. What do you expect from a System that practically caters to non-gaming casuals who don't know better?

THATS EXACTLY WHAT I JUST SAID....THANK YOU.
There is actually someone else with rational thought here. Anyone who owns a PS2, (which is pretty much everyone) has to admit that it is the single worst example of SHOVELWARE in gaming history.

Not in its 1st year :)It didn't have enough shovelware for it to become a 3 page article in a magazine in its first year.

It also didn't have Wii-like sales within its first year if I recall correctly. It started selling very well when word got around to allthe media outlets about its dvd-player, and later GTA3...that games started the ps2's gaming popularity imo.[QUOTE="flclempire"][QUOTE="jet052006"]The PS2 had the worst case of shovelware ever and it outsold the hell out of the others.[QUOTE="flclempire"][QUOTE="Navy_Sealz"]Part of the reason why i think Wii will not last as long as the other 2 consoles.ZanuffC

Not in its 1st year :)What?, the PS2 had pretty good 3rd party support even in its first year, it even launched with SSX which got a 9.4 score, while the only game i can think off that is out on the Wii (that is also 3rd party) that has gotten a AAA, is re4 which was seen on 2 different last gen consoles.

C'mon, that's not true. You won't see "YOU'RE WINNER!" at the end of each race.
But seriously, all this shovelware (a few examples of which was actually on the PS2 in Europe) doesn't mean the Wii has no good games. There's still the first-party, and the third party that's actually trying.
People once complained that Nintendo was too strict with it's process and third parties, now they go the opposite route and people still complain.
How unsurprising, everyone and everything is damned for one reason or another. :|
-RPGamer-
It wasn't their strictness in terms of quality people had a problem with, because that's been a farce since Superman 64 anyway. It was their strictness when it came to violence in the SNES days, and their ridiculously high royalty fees in comparison to their competitors.
Every successful system is a "dump" for shovel-ware (PS1,PS2,SNES,GBA,etc.),but they have a lot of quality games to back them up.
The Wii doesn't have a lot of quality games, but it hasn't even been out for one year.
Since this is a common occurrence, I fail to see the significance of EGM's article.
