[QUOTE="too_much_eslim"][QUOTE="Timstuff"]This month EGM had a massive three page article about Nintendo's approval process, or lack therof, and how it's turning Wii and DS into garbage dumps for shovelware. It's truly shocking how low Nintendo's standards for third parties are in comparison to MS and Sony, and they're not doing anything to rectify it. Also, they pointed out something that even I missed-- in 2003, Nintendo changed the "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality" to just plain the "Official Nintendo Seal." Basically, with Sony and MS, even though crap does end up on their systems, they at least have a huge approval process that devs must go through to minimize the ammounts of utter garbage on the system. Nintendo has no concept approval process at all though, so anything goes, including crap like Chicken Shoot which is a straight up port of a GBA game!Timstuff

It is why I do not have the wii yet.

Isn't this coming from a publication that is on the edge of bankruptcy? Publishers want to make money. Thats why gaming sites are here to rank games.

EGM's parent company is going bankrupt, but EGM is still the #1 gaming mag in popularity. If Ziff Davis goes belly up, EGM will obviously be sold to another corporation like Viacom or News Corp (both of whom expressed interest in publishing it).

As someone who has read EGM for many, many years I can say this... They should sell it back to Steve Harris.

Yet sony let this crap onto the psp

http://au.gamespot.com/psp/strategy/pimpmyride/index.html?tag=result;title;0

No-one ever said that crap never gets onto Sony and MS's systems, but at least they try to keep it out. With Nintendo, anything goes, so there's a disproportionately large ammount of shovelware on their systems compared to the others.

To give some idea of how poorly Wii software has trended heres a list of all the non-Movie games currently on Gamerankings that rank at or below 50%:

Escape from Bug Island
Far Cry Vengeance
GT Pro Series
Legend of the Dragon
Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal
Pool Party
Rapala Tournament Fishing
Rampage: Total Destruction
Super Fruit Fall
Tamagotchi Party On!
Wing Island
World Series of Poker

And a number of those actually received some hype.

For comparison heres the PS3 list:

Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire
Sonic the Hedgehog

Yes, you are seeing that correctly, not even the worst the PS3 has to offer can match the worst of the Wii, it doesn't come within two points of that.

Lastly the 360 list, it bears mentioning that the 360 has been out for the last two years now, as neither of the other lists feature downloadable titles this list omits them:

Bomberman: Act Zero
Cabela's African Safari
Hour of Victory
Kengo: Legend of the 9
Pimp My Ride
Rapala Tournament Fishing
Sonic the Hedgehog
Two Worlds
Vampire Rain
WCP - All In

Based upon this despite being out only around half to a third as long the Wii has two more games with an overall rating of under 50% than 360.

Chicken Shoot should have gotten AAA at least.

People once complained that Nintendo was too strict with it's process and third parties, now they go the opposite route and people still complain.

How unsurprising, everyone and everything is damned for one reason or another. :|

Well I can't say I'm suprised by the article, there is a lot of shovelware on the Wii. Then again I am not the one whose actually buying every piece of crap that comes out on the Wii. I have like what? Eight great to decent games (both third and first) so far and I'm happy.

Come on now, be an educated gamer and pick the games that you like and don't worry about the shovelware. They'll be thrown into the bargin bin soon enough. (Jeez did we sound like this last gen?)

That's what...5 games in a time span of over a year? Ouch. Guess you'll need your PC a lot then, because it doesn't seem the Wii offers much. But don't worry...after Kart, Wii Fit will be just around the corner!

While I'm sure that the actual statistics are exaggerated, I agree that the Wii is getting a lot of lame games. I see where everyone is coming from with the complaints and I am not happy either but I believe that it is deliberate. After the N64 and the GCN Nintendo would much rather get back with the 3rd parties even if it means allowing them to make shovelware. I hope that soon enough such sacrifices will no longer be needed. We all also have to remember that these 'lame' games are perhaps lame only to us - gamers who have the means and experience to pick out much better titles, in our opinions. I'm sure that the a lot of casual gamers still find this 'shovelware' entertaining else it wouldn't be made as no one goes about making products that turn zero profit. As long as we get our good games then I really don't mind if a tide of poor games comes out to please the casual and 3rd parties.

You're hyping games that don't even exist yet, or are not announced at least. By that token, I can hype Gears Of War 2, Forza 3, PGR 5, Bio-Shock 2, Fable 3, Crackdown 2, Dead Rising 2, etc.

Also, I bet people 24 years ago didn't care about E.T. The Game, either. But I'm sure with all this newfound cash, Nintendo has plenty to spend on new landfills.

The problem is that shovelware doesn't have to sell well to make a profit. That's how the shovelware industry on the PC has always worked. Make a crap game on a budget of pennies a day, and if a few hundred people buy it, it's paid for, and anything beyond that is profit. Release 10 games like that, and your business is bringing in a healthy ammount of green. That's how games like Big Rigs get made, and unfortunately, that kind of business is now invading Nintendo's systems and they don't give a crap as long as they're making money.

I don't and don't plan to anytime in this lifetime is the current course continues. Also you can't blame crap products just on "capitalism" and aside from that handful of games that people are generally looking forward to on the Wii it is a crap product thus far.

Overpriced? The only reason Wii is so cheap is because Nintendo greedily wanted crappy obsolete outdated hardware so the production costs would be lower, meaning more profit on each console sold. 360 and PS3 are true technological successors and where the real gaming is to be found this gen. Any Wii game, except for the overrated inept control input, could have been done on a Gamecube 6 years ago. Hell, Brawl doesn't even use the Wiimote to begin with, it might as well have been a GC title.

Nintendo has no concept approval process at all though, so anything goes, including crap like Chicken Shoot which is a straight up port of a GBA game!martingm1983

It is why I do not have the wii yet.

Isn't this coming from a publication that is on the edge of bankruptcy? Publishers want to make money. Thats why gaming sites are here to rank games.

Ziff Davis publications... yeah. They used tomake another magazine didn't they? "OFFICIALU.S. PLAYSTATION MAGAZINE" wasn't it? ... interestin'.

That's cause EGM is biased against Nintendo. Why didn't they ever criticize the PS2 for having crap? The PS2 had plenty of it and no one complained at EGM.

Plus, if it was true that Sony and MS go through all the process, then they would not end up with garbage such as Bomberman Zero and Super Rub a dub dub. Also, PS2 had Ninjabread Man and the rest of the popcorn arcade games. Like I said, just more biased "reporting" by EGM.

No, no, they're laughing, you're stuck with an overclocked gamecube that plays kids games.

As long as I get Brawl, mario, Zelda and Metroid and Kart, i'm happy, I have my PC for my other gaming

That's what...5 games in a time span of over a year? Ouch. Guess you'll need your PC a lot then, because it doesn't seem the Wii offers much. But don't worry...after Kart, Wii Fit will be just around the corner!

Never said that was all i was getting, just all I needed to make the purchase worthwhile, remember the low price doesn't require much to make the syustem worthwwhile unlike the overpriced 360/PS3

And any PS3 or 360 game could've been on their predesesors if they hadn't had a graphical update. I can do that to. And isn't the whole point of a company to make money?

The lack of approval seals was a major cause of the video game crash. Just throwing that out there.Swiftie101

lol, and guess which company ended the crash;)

Hey its not nintendo's fault the system of capitalism has its flaws, they are just exploting it, its what you get for voting for republicans

Runningflame570

I don't and don't plan to anytime in this lifetime is the current course continues. Also you can't blame crap products just on "capitalism" and aside from that handful of games that people are generally looking forward to on the Wii it is a crap product thus far.

Sure you can, products sell based on supplyand demand, the Wii has very high demand regardless of what you believe its quality to beand is cheap for Nintendo to produce and sell

Im not sure if Nintendo systems have more bad games than the others, but it does make sense that Nintendo would lower their standards: The main problem with Nintendo's consoles has been 3rd party support. I guess Nintendo would want more games even if it meant some were crap.
