[QUOTE="gaboi09"]

[QUOTE="WilliamRLBaker"] OOOOOOOOOOOO you mean like how sony provides servers for 3rd party games even though its a free service then?WilliamRLBaker

Thatreally dosen't make any sense, itwill stillcost you 50 dollars a year to play ANY games online with xbox360 no matter who provides it 1st or 3rd party

if its on sony'sPS3 regardless of whether it's dedicated serviers on1st partygames or per to per on 3rd party games it's still aFREE service to allit'susers. You trying to turn this around and point the finger at sony in some kind of way is really rediclious.

and you often try to do the same thing with no developer know how or any thing you make statements as trying to show microsoft and 360 looking bad so why shouldn't i do the same thing? As for that its a perfectly valid argument since bluray actually makes out constantly there are no dedicated server games, infact he is on record as saying only one game on xbox live is dedicated server and thats Final Fantasy 11. Sony doesn't pay for 3rd party servers, why should microsoft? oh because they charge money for the service? a service VASTLY superior to psn in every way? Id rather they put that money into keeping xbox live the superior service instead of providng dedicated servers i have no problem playing the games on xbox live, and all a dedicated server gurantees is you never play a game with people outside your area cause if you play on a dedicate server too far away and it will lag just as badly as any client side game on xbox live.

What you saying dosn't make any sense.

you taking this vastly superior crap you're spotting makes no sence when I feel the most important thinkin online games is who the game runs and the number of players it supports online.

what by vastly superior are you taking about talking to people on xboxlive...who aren't even playing the same game?how the **** dose stuff like that make PLAYING THE GAME ONLINE better?

Nothing you said changes my original replay to what I said, u just come off abrasive and mad. what I said was fact if you can't deal with it...tough.

Metal Gear Online is run via a Konami Dedicated Server. Last time I checked, Konami is a 3rd party. XBL uses Peer to Peer. There is no such thing as a "superior peer to peer service". EG. UFC 2009 uses the same peer to peer matchmaking on XBL as the PSN version. They both use Gamespy matchmaking. The only difference is it costs 50 bucks a year for the XBL version.

[QUOTE="Jamex1987"][QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"] Dedicated servers are never free.HuusAsking
You can easily run a server from your home pc and play on the 360. I wish more games would do this. It doesn't cost a thing.

The big problem is security. A big reason why Live and PSN are still mostly clean and free from the darker influences of the Net is because they're both closed networks: tightly controlled and regulated by their respective central command. A walled garden, IOW. By keeping the membership solely to end-user consoles and servers owned by or at least registered with the console makers, they keep the garden walled up. Start bringing end-user PCs into the mix, and you risk getting holes punched in the wall. If you want end-users to be able to run console game servers, you'll have to do it very carefully: most likely using specialized, closed, signed, and protected software (with plenty of phone-home diagnostics) to ensure any new "gardeners" don't try to hack at the walls.

You can get network manipulation on every system already, and every PC is vulnerable just being on the Internet. Sometimes you can be too paranoid of security risks.

Fighters are generally P2P. Not everything using GameSpy is P2P, nor are most games on the 360.

Halo 3 is also Peer to Peer.

Most games on XBL are Peer to Peer. The only game that is no is Final Fantasy XI, which requires a monthly subscription fee because it is an MMORPG.

Now go ask Konami how long those servers will stay up. In fact, ask them where their servers came from. Betcha at least some of them once ran MGS3:S's online network...which has been taken down.

They stayed up longer than the EA XBL servers. XD All servers eventually come down when nobody plays the game anymore.

Quite simply, peer to peer is hostless. You can't have a host advantage if your system is hostless. Not only that, the lag's a killer.

But they were taken down while plenty of people were still playing the game. And with no recourse since MGS3:S's netcode, IIRC, couldn't be updated to become client-hosted.

At least the EA server takedowns are understandable since they bring in new games in close proximity. The lag time between MGS3:S's online going down and MGS4O's going up was much more significant.

Not enough people played MGS3's Online to justify keeping those servers up. Seriously, MGS Online has never been popular. Even MGS4's Online isn't popular. People don't play MGS for Online play. They play for storyline.

Best for consumers would be dedicated servers, the ability to set up your own servers, and the server-client network like Live uses predominantly right now, and let the gamer choose. That way, when servers are shut off, the game does not become a coaster.

Mentioned it earlier. If the servers are going down, at least update the netcode to allow client-hosted games so the game can keep going. I'm sure EA isn't doing this for obvious reasons, but other non-serial games that are being EOL'd would benefit from this one last boon.

Completely agreed. Especially important for games that are not getting sequel treatment. Thats one benefit to Live's model if nothing else. I can still chuck Halo 2 in and get into a game if I want to. Granted, servers would be nice as well, certainly.

Hey TC maybe you should read it again its says that you will be able to host your own servers not that you have to.
