My Xbox One hasn't had a lot of great games.

If people upgrade their hardware they want remastered games not backwards compat ones that look like 360

That's why people upgrade PC to get best version of games.

I hope these new xbox ones will fix issues with the gaming library and improve old games like owning a powerful PC does.

Glad the rest of us don't have your Xbox One. Ours has great games. Maybe yours is under warranty still?

Xbox - Fable, Knights of Old Republic, Halo 1-2, Dead or Alive

Xbox 360 - Mass Effect, Gears of War, Halo 3

Xbox One - Halo 5 (meh) Halo MCC (meh) Dead Rising 3 (meh) Sunset Overdrive (meh) Ryse (meh)

It's been meh on xbox one its been wonderful on the xbox and 360

@kvally: Of course. Its an option and that's great in free markets. I am not interested in either. I'm looking at upgrading my PC this fall.

I know I overpaid, but I am happy with my new Alienware Area 51 machine I bought a few months ago. I hope I don't have to upgrade next month already though :)

Hey that's all that matters. People buy Humvees when they could get an SUV for a lot cheaper. You value it then enjoy it. I don't have that kind of money, and don't need a whole new PC just a GPU and RAM

Yeah... I'm done with Microsoft for good. By that, I mean I'm not buying any new hardware from them: no Xbox 1.5, no Xbox 2.0, no streaming boxes etc.

And if any of the console makers put out a streaming service system in the place of a traditional console, they can go screw themselves.

They pretty factually gave up on it. The sales were poor and they were losing money so they moved projects to the NX so they could make money on them. If it were selling competitively they would still be releasing games on it throughout 2016 and we wouldn't be hearing anything about NX right now.

Yeah that's not totally true. I have a capable PC but still play Half Life and Deus Ex. They don't look any better than when they first released. I play a 360 game BC I don't mind it looking like a 360 game.

Kotaku has a slightly different rumour (if I understand correctly): http://kotaku.com/sources-smaller-xbox-one-coming-this-year-more-powerf-1778634446

Slim X1 this fall (aka same sepcs?). "and next year Microsoft will release a more powerful version of their premiere console.". Xbox2017 will support Oculus Rift apparently.

I think its more likely we'll see just a Slim this year, and a more powerful XB1 next year (as Kotaku article says).

And its weird that the source in OP says he's unsure whether the new console will be backwards compatible, when Spencer emphasised that future consoles will be backward and forward compatible.

The small upgrade from X1/PS4 to NEO is something Phil doesn't want. He wants BIG, not little.

Phil (regarding NEO): ""I'm not a big fan of Xbox One and a half," Spencer told Game Informer. "If we're going to move forward, I want to move forward in big numbers."

I am looking forward to the small bump we get with NEO, and I will be looking forward to the larger bump with Scorpion.

Yes and that is the classic DC he will do dissing the PS4 Neo because they were catch pants down by sony.

He is such a big fan of big upgrade that is the reason the XBO turn out like it is in the first place.

If you think again that from Polaris 10 to XBO there is a small gap then you are blinder than i even though possible Blackace.

Oh i remember now that lemmings think there is no difference from 720p to 1080p or even worse a 1440p capable of Ultra GPU.

And even Polaris 11 was demo running VR,so even if MS goes for the smallest fun factor here still a 14CU Polaris GPU would run VR.

The more powerful xbox console is sony's answer to the neo from what I read on kotaku. It's just a better version of the xbox one while there's another version of the xbox one they are planning to release which is a slim model. There is no such thing as an xbox 2 yet.

A 4 year cycle isn't that crazy. Sega and Microsoft have done it before and most of Nintendos console cycles lasted 5 years. Last gen was waaaaaaaaay too long and the younger gamers seem to think that is the norm. It's not. Give me new boxes please!!!

Iterative + generational leaps from the same company in a close-ish time frame? They'll need to get their PR 100% spot on for this to fly. Kinda excited but also confused at the overal strategy here. Time will tell I suppose.

Right now, far more interested on the NX.

@aroxx_ab:

Exactly.

Xbox Scorpio isn't going to be a modest upgrade of Xbox One. It's likely to be the closest we get to a generational leap.

New AMD APU with Zen CPU cores Vega GPU and High Bandwidth Memory 2. It's not going to compare to an ultra high-end enthusiast 2017 gaming PC, but should be pretty good, and more than enough to run Rift. Expect it to be more powerful than PS4K. Then watch Sony release PS5 two years later in 2019.

This is why I tend to believe Kotaku's article more. I think we'll get an XB1 Slim this year (no graphics power upgrade), and a proper upgraded Xbox next year.

And for those talking about Xbox 2 etc and starting a new cycle/generation, I think it's obvious that this isn't happening anymore. This plays in to what Phil Spencer & Co has said recently about all your games now will carry forward with you with future consoles. So it isn't really starting over with a "new cycle/generation" like in the past... it'll be similar to PC where your library will move with you, on whatever hardware they release (this sounds like Xbox's plan, but not sure about PS/Nintendo).

The difference between what MS is doing and what Sony is doing is you can bet 100% that if MS is releasing a console powerful enough to play Oculus Rift the games WON'T be cross compatible with xbone.

lol at fanboys who tried to bash the way sony was introducing their more powerful version of PS4 saying fans would be upset. With Xbox 2, it will official mark the end of xbone's life span full stop. Perhaps Xbox 2 will be able to play xbone game disks but it sure as hell won't be the other way around.

Good ol MS looking out for their ever faithful userbase buy cutting all ties and saying sink or swim.

@Bigboi500: I'm curious, why the change of heart? As long as I've been here, we've butted heads when it came to Xbox. Not only as a platform but as a brand. I'm really surprised to see you say this. No, not pulling fanboy wars or anything. You've been rather reasonable in your defense of the Xbox in the past so it fascinates me as to what would have you off the boat.

lol that was a LONG time ago, I doubt you saw my posts the times when I was a xbot. I fell out of love with MS when they killed the first xbox only 4 years in. I felt robbed lol others obviously don't feel the same way but that is kinda the same thing they are doing here so yeah, I am chiming in on it.

If Sony was doing the same thing, I'd be done with them too. For me it has little to do with being a fanboy and more to do with your own personal standards for how you want a company you support to treat you. We should expect some gratitude for buying their products and it's a gesture I don't take lightly.

Honestly releasing an new xbox is a GREAT idea...but as soon as I heard about 2 versions I already saw the writing on the wall. Infact I think even this revised version will be more powerful than the original xbone (think PS4neo) and it WILL play the same games as xbone, however when they release the other upgrade it will only be compatible with the new xbox 1.5.

That is the way I see all this going if the 2 versions turn out to be true, MS trying to phase out the original xbone in the span of 1 year leaving all base buyer with the option to upgrade to 1.5 or 2 or have nothing.

Another article about the rumours from Polygon/The Verge further explaining things:

@casharmy: Take note of the details in the article such as:

"More clear, however, is that "universal compatibility" is a core principle for the system. Scorpio is currently being designed to support all Xbox One software."

Nice try. I'd be more worried about Sony's future plans in this area because at least MS/Spencer have said that they want future consoles to be backward/forward compatible. Sony has mentioned no such thing.

I'm not "trying" anything.

You asked a question and I answered it. You can play fanboy wars in your own little world for all I care, I just gave what I feel will play out in this scenario.

Honestly, you aren't very bright if you think xbone will be able to play cross platform on a system powerful enough to run Oculus Rift when it can barely keep up with PS4 but I wasn't trying to convince you of anything, those were only my personal thoughts. Believe what you will, I didn't know you were trying to make an argument of it lol.

I need to see games that take advantage of extra hardware.

I think I may be with you on this one. As exciting as new hardware is, I feel like there is more magic to pull on the current hardware. Uncharted 4 is a great example of this. And if Sony and Microsoft are doing this solely for VR then they need to aim higher. The rumored specs at a console price-point will be quite under powered by this time next year. There will be a new Titan and a 1080Ti by the time the updated consoles come out which will move the bar for VR yet again. And making the Oculus Rift compatible with the new Xbox is kind of a silly move for M$. Who knows if Oculus will even get through their preorders by the end of the year, let alone have the stock to move into the console market and go head to head with PSVR?

Microsoft and Sony seem to be putting a ton of money into VR and we don't even know if it will catch on. Maybe Nintendo is doing the right thing by holding off. From a business standpoint this rumored move my Microsoft doesn't make much sense either. Their box will be more expense, the compatible headset will cost more than the PSVR and this Xbox VR functionality will be available a year later than the competitions. Sony could have this thing wrapped up by then. And by that time mobile VR will be in it's 3rd generation. This makes no sense.

-An Xbox 2, revealed around Spring next year.

I don't know why you all think this will release in 2017, 2018 at the earliest seems likely which will make the Xbox one 5 years old, a perfect time to release a new system.

@charizard1605: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/microsoft-release-new-xbox-consoles-2017-article-1.2649621

Microsoft is planning to release two new gaming consoles within the next two years, according to Kotaku. The first console will be a smaller version of the Xbox One, which is slated to launch by then end of this year; and the second will be a more powerful version of the current that'll launch in 2017.

The 2017 version, dubbed Scorpion, is expected to have a powerful GPU for virtual reality. Sources familiar with the matter told Kotaku that Scorpion might be able to fully support the Oculus Rift, and that Oculus and Microsoft are trying to form a partnership.
