When it come to consoles the Xbox 360 is currently the king of RPG (western or eastern). Since when do handhelds factor into this scenario (they're not the same scope in terms of development, the same market, or even the same generation)?-RPGamer-

since they started gettting much better JRPGs than the 360 and PS3 combined

I heard this about Ninja Gaiden Sigma, I think.Jandurin

It's still the definitive version of a multiplatform RPG (something the 360 doesn't have) and better than every JRPG on the 360.

You're right though, I shouldn't bring up multiplatforrm titles. It's not as if Lemmings ever talk about Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect or Bioshock when dicussing their console

I barely see any of those discussed. Most people were rather unimpressed with Eternal Sonata, Mass Effect was pretty good, and Bioshock sucked.

Well if you don't see those games being discussed then Lemmings must not be discussing them.

[QUOTE="zekere"] There is no JRPG king, because the genre is slowly dying due to the lack of inspiration with game studios . Lidve

Lack of inspiration? What happened to 329 JRPG games that followed same "bring 5 crystals/elements/whatever" to me than well talk

They were more or less clones of eachother for years,it was about time someone finaly see that most of them are just copy copy copy with different main characther

What many consider the golden age of JRPG's is in the snes era. Games like chrono trigger, final fantasy 5, 6 and secret of mana were alll vastly different game types that had both completely different gameplay styles, and very varied settings.

PS2 has a Madden coming too I believe, is it now part of the discussion when comparing sports games? Are you really going to waste our time with cross-gen comparisons when that's clearly not what the TC meant for this thread?

knight-k

Of course he is. He has to do whatever he can to keep credit from where it is due :o

Well then let's stop playing around like children and speak plainly for once. Knight-k, you are not arguing (in this or any other topic) because you are standing up for the DS, or the PS2, or the equivalency of gen to gen or handheld to console or anything of the kind. You arguing because that is what fanboys do. You are as transparent as celaphane, and it's boring.

You think that arguing against the 360 is a win for the PS3 somehow, and you're very careful never to mention that it is the PS3 you're really fighting for, not the DS or PS2, because it will not look good in a comparison. But the very pains you take to keep your real motivations in the dark are what makes it so obvious.... and pathetic. Man up for once in your life in these forums. Admit that the 360 has done better in RPGs of all kinds than your beloved MGS4 delivery device.

LMAO oh I love making fanboys like you angry. Thanks for the honesty, but you didn't really need to admit you are a troll. It's obvious. Unfortunately, you're a troll who's really bad at reading people. You've confused angry with tired. So very tired of fanboys and trolls like you.

Are you frustrated because I said something that hurt you, because what I say is true? Really why so frustrated? See above.

Ok and what do MGS4 and RPG's have in common? Wtf? Hmm oh maybe you're still frustrated because MGS4 had a 10...because really I don't get the link with 360 RPG's and MGS4? Nothing in common, just pointing it out.

And yes 360 has more rpg's than wii or ps3. Although most of them are mediocre, there are some good ones. There you go... good boy.

I'll tell you a secret too but you probably won't believe me although it's true....you may think I'm a ps3 fanboy (but hey I think you're a 360 fanboy too) but I don't have a PS3. The only "next-gen" system I have is a DS. And I still play on my PS2. (because there are so many great games, and still coming out...and let's be honest it still kicks the ass of every next-gen console). I don't consider the DS a next gen system, I don't think anyone does. As for the PS2, you are correct and I could buy that argument.... except it's disingenuous since you don't enter PS3 threads and hold forth on the PS2, only the 360. Something can be true technically, after all, yet still be a lie if it wasn't your real motivation, only a convenient defense after the fact.

But I still think PS3 is the best out of the 3 if I look at everything (games, reliability, future, online) and hey I like to argue here, this is a forum right? Everybody has his opinion if you like it or not. You have the right to your opinion. I have the right to shoot it down.

Anyway thanks for that long fanboy rant of yours. And you were brief? It really made me laugh Then you must laugh really easily. Do you laugh at grocery lists too? Here's a good one for you: Turnip! One of those guys who types lmao at every stupid thing, like anyone actually believes you laughed at any point. ;) here's a cookie. I prefer salty snacks. Got any chips?

Nah. The PSX era can easily compete with the SNES era, even against gems like Terranigma.

They probably could. The three snes games came to me immediately when I read his statement, I don't know much about the PS's jrpgs besides the final fantasies and chrono cross.

Sure, the PSX era was just as varied with games taking place in dark churchs, evil manors, a metropolitan building, war torn worlds, steam punk, water margin, etc. Some of, if not atleast 40% of the greatest JRPGs of all time were in the PSX era.

Among (this gen) consoles, the 360 gets has more JRPG (and variety is a factor) and gets multiplat ones sooner (another thhink to consider), so I'd say it is the console RPG King.

Of course, including handhelds, the DS wins.

I think by the time this gen ends ( 2012 me thinks ) the 360 will truly rein supreme in the overall RPG genre but I'm going to agree with V.V. on this one and say the PSX up to this point in gaming is the stand out RPG machine....... for now. ;)

Thank you kind sir, you made me laugh again. Have a chip. These are potato chips. Get me some Doritos if you want to be a decent host.

Again why so frustrated? Did I hurt your feelings or something? This is weird. I addressed this above, yet here you are repeating yourself. Reading comprehension FTW.

And yes I laugh with people like you, who call someone else a fanboy,troll,...while you my friend are a fanboy,troll,.. yourself. Hmmm... also weird. Someone needs to reaquaint themselves with the definition of a troll.

But hey please keep trowing those pathetic rants my brief responses to your rant are rants themselves? Really? at me so I (and many others) can have a laugh. Turnip.

when ppl say "jrpg king", they refer to 360 having more and better ones then PS3.

jrpg king is a current gen console phrase.

Yes, but, handhelds were always considered separately because they can churn games out like butter. And I still don't know what all of these DS JRPGs are... I mean, there's revenant wings and?

The world ends with you, Mario + Lugi, Final Fantasy 4 remake, Pokemon and revenant wings are all AA or above

Crystal Chronicles, tactics advance 2 and etrian odyssey and final fantasy 3 are also good

FF3 is only a remake for japanese people, for us it's a brand new game

[QUOTE="Jandurin"]Yes, but, handhelds were always considered separately because they can churn games out like butter. And I still don't know what all of these DS JRPGs are... I mean, there's revenant wings and?MarloStanfield

The world ends with you, Mario + Lugi, Final Fantasy 4 remake, Pokemon and revenant wings are all AA or above

Crystal Chronicles, tactics advance 2 and etrian odyssey and final fantasy 3 are also good

I don't see how that completely squashes the 360 list?

The World Ends With You, Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, Final Fantasy Revenant Wings, Pokemon Pearl/Diamond, Final Fantasy Fables, Lost Magic, Etrian Odissey, Final Fantasy Christal Chronicles and Rune Factory, Final Fantasy Tactics A2, Heroes of Mana.

The only remakes are Final Fabtasy III (which was originally never released in America, so for the great vast majority is a completely new game) and Final Fantasy IV, whose graphics were so drastically changed that feel like completely new experiences.

I do

and on top of that there's 20 times as many JRPGs coming out for the DS many of which will crush everything on the 360

[QUOTE="Zhengi"]You can't proclaim the 360 as JRPG king with such mediocore scoring games. The DS is the JRPG King.Jandurin
Handhelds have a different standard. Anyway, you can't count games that are remakes or rereleases :x

Even without counting the remakes and rereleases, you still have games like Pokemon, TWEWY, Rondo of Swords, Heroes of Mana, Rune Factory, Izuna, Shiren, Eterian Odyssey, Magical Starsign, Mario and Luigi, FFXII, FFA Tactics 2, Hoshigami Blue, etc.

That's a lot more than the 360. So please, don't give me this remakes or rereleases excuse. The DS holds it own especially against the weaker 360 lineup.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the Dragon Quest games. It has Dragon Quest: Rocket Slime and Dragon Quest: Joker. It's also getting the mother of all JRPGs, Dragon Quest 9.

Bioware have set up a handheld group as well so it's getting 1 or 2 WRPGs as well. If only Obsidian would jump in :(

I agree with you there. But let me ask you a question, and be honest.

Right now, at this very moment, would you say 360 has a stronger jrpg and wrpg lineup in comparison to Wii and PS3?

No, we must consider handhelds! Handhelds and consoles and mobile phones and everything must be considered contemporaneously! For the record, I've never played ANY of the DS or 360 JRPGs, so I really really have just been trying to get a list of DS games.

Also can't forget that the DS stole the mainline Dragon Quest 9 game. That is huge.
