he says because of HARDWARE LIMITATIONS  this isn't going to sit well with the lemmings

Either way.....
Nah its simple.
Epic got lazy because Blu Ray affords them more room.
So of course there going to be lazy about compression.
It has more to do with the space of BluRay then the lack of space on DVD 9.
In other wordsif there were no BR then Epic would just need to compress.
I honestly would not be suprised if UT3 is on 2 DVD's for PC, UT2004 was on one DVD and was 5 GB's uncompressed (or something close to that). I am willing to bet that it pushes at least 10 GB's, if not more. More weapons, more maps, more vehicles and characters etc means more data. I can't wait to use the Dark Walkers :DDSgamer64
it doesnt really matter, after you install the games you only need one CD from there.
epic is really showing sony some love. they might eventually jump ship for good. because it seems like they've got the ps3 hardware all figuered out. more maps and mods and k/m support for the ps3 version FTWKlash47
Have fun with your inferior console version !
PC FTW !

Hmmm. I wonder how big UT3 is compared to most other FPS games this gen. UT3 might just be huge by comparison, but I don't know. Ah well, that's the price of having a system that comes out first of a generation. Still, lots of great games seem to fit just fine. Plus, with the hard drive, downloading the other maps would be easy. At least for those with hard drives. Those without... well, shame on MS for trying to convince people it isn't pretty much mandatory... and shame on those buyers for believing them.
I'm still getting it for the 360, though. My PC can't handle UT3 too well, and less maps is nothing compared to the hassle and money of upgrading.
Who buys UT on a console, cows with out a PC thats who
and you can simply download the maps on the 360, but you guys wouldnt know much about downloading anyways....

And if cows dont have a high end PC? Feature wise, the PS3 has everything the PC has (I think).
Edit - Im talking about UT3, NOT the hardware.

 Here comes the denial.
Compression = killing graphics. Also, do you have any idea how much more processing power would be required to stream data off a dual layer disc then it would a single layered one? The 360 drive is not fast enough to spin and stream all that data at such a high pace, it is easier to store a game on a single disc on one layer if possible and it will stream without massive loading times. So even if they can fit it onto a single DVD9, it is going to have longer load times.
I think the world agrees that microsoft screwed up with not making the HDD standard. I'm not fussed on blu-ray/hd-dvd as there are just as many people saying it's completely unnecessary as there are claiming it's needed. I think NEXT GEN is the gen whereby that kind of disc will be necessary.
What is necessary THIS gen however, is a hard drive. You can cache data, store files. It makes disc space much less of a problem, and microsoft were incredibly stupid not to include it just to make a more affordable version. I understand their logic that nobody used the xbox hard drive last gen, but that was LAST GEN. Of course you need a hard drive now.
A short game like GeoW took up most of 1 dvd. Bu Bu compression. Lazy Devs. What a bunch of Damage Control. I cant wait unitl a 9 level HayLow 3 ships.iwo4life
Gears took up most of a DVD? :? Oblivion is huge, has gabillions of hours of audio and gameplay and only took up half a disc. Let's not be fanboys now. Halo certainly isn't having issues with disc space - heck look at all the content the game has. You think they'd be throwing in something like Forge if they didn't have room for more than nine levels, as you said?

Actually, with UT2004 you did not need the disc at all, it was all loaded from the hard drive.

Was that a mis-type? Because honestly, that really is sig worthy. Did you just say the PS3 has everything the PC has in terms of features? Where you talking about the game, or the machines?
Please say the game...
Well this is a big deal, especially for xbox 360's future.

the 360 has AAA titles without the need of a new format.i dont see ur point and i wouldnt be surprise that this guy mark rein make some comments when the version of UT for the 360 comes out.he is just that kind of guy that is nice to something when one of its products is coming out for certain system.he is full of it
HS uses 10 GB of sound FX audioo work, as much as 1 dvd!!!

anyone who wants to play this game the way it was ment to be played needs to play it on the PC. unreal was released on the ps3 and dreamcast and never really took off. unreal championship was good because it was pretty much a console version. get the pc version which will be on DVD 9 not bluray.

Whoa pedro.
The article says maybe and that they might have to ship with less maps.
Nothing set in stone yet, so put your fanboyism away there buddy.
Plus if... and thats a big if, I wanted to play it I would play it a PC where it belongs.
But with the Sony suck going on everywhere I guess you can gloat.

Well imagine if 360s AAA titles used bigger format discs (more space), they would have been so much better, with so many extras!

Oblivion, however, used a lot of the same models over and over (i.e. you'll see the same tree many times, the same rock, etc., etc., etc.) They just use the same object multiple times on a map. Also, the game recycles the same four songs over and over. Also, many characters share the same voices, thus the same lines with the same voices many times. All of it is compressed as well. That's why it all fits on a DVD.

jxditu
Well either way its best played on a pc and ps3, and not the 360.
Sooner or later MS might have to release games on HD-DVDs. Mainly because every year everyone expects more and more from their console's games and DVDs just wont cut it. TheHater86If they don't want people to buy their games that would work....

Yes they will magically become so much better an with more extras. Sure the DVD-9 is showing it age but it is not time to pull out the shotgun yet. With the Next Gen then yea it would be time for the DVD-9 to go the way of Old Yeller.
But it doesn't matter UT3 should be played on the PC, that is where it started and that is where I'll play it on (just have to upgrade my PC)

GeoW was 7.1GB. Perhaps there was redundant information on the disc but that is only to push critical info to the outer edge for speed reasons and to ensure the transfer rate was high enough for tard pack core users.
Oblivion is the most repetitive POS I have ever played. Same assets in every town. Every table was the same, every chair was the same. Every cave has the same texture, every oblivion gate has the same texture, every elvish ruin had the same texture. Huge game that gave you plenty to do but not exactly the most varied game I have every played. By the 3rd oblivion gate I was like uhhh.
H3 will ship with a MP and a SP disc. Believe. Finish the fight.
[QUOTE="Art_424"]Lazy Devs!!!!! (Ooops Im using a Cow phrase, sorry):lol:Tom_Brady860
.....
Nah. I starting to believe its marketing.
They need to get a few 100000 people to get aPS3 for this game.
So Epic makes iffy comments about the competition, which won't get the game till next year.
But when its released Epic will find a way to have the better version on the later console version.
