Xbox 720 Announcement Delayed From April To May

Well, delays are not always a bad thing... if anything, being more of a SONY fan overall, this brings the 720 back into the "mystery realm" again. That is a TON more hype then I had for it before. Who knows exactly what the delay could be for (if there is one at all), but you have to think it probably had something to do with the PS4 reveal. My biggest guess would be it has something to do with "allowing used games" afterall. That would be the best move for Microsoft IF the rumors were true. I think that Microsoft probably fully expected SONY to block used games, and now they are scrambling and trying to switch their plan. If one console allows used games (even if you have to buy online passes) and the other doesn't... I think that could spell disaster. It would not be to hard for them to change their plan around this new structure but still charge for passes like SONY might.

Yeah, this is just a guess, but I seriously doubt they are going to try and respec the console this near reveal. That would take time and money that Microsoft may have, but would put them in the red financially for a couple years, and also set them back at least a year. Microsoft isn't stupid, they must see the slow start that SONY got off to with the PS3 after a year delay and etc. etc.

Hell maybe they are adding Windows...

The only thing that has come from MS was the countdown by Major Nelson to E3.  Absolutely nothing has been confirmed.  Just rumors rumors everywhere.

I do notice a huge thing going around not just on gamespot but every gaming message board I visit.  People are getting absolutely restless. And are dying from any morsel or crumb of information from MS in regards to the next Xbox.  It is the funniest thing to see.  I get a kick out of it.

Maybe MS realized they have 6 Kinect 720 games and 1 new IP they can show and they know that this is crap compared to what Sony has offered so far. LOL good though because now they will push to make more games and Sony wiill do the same and Nintendo will do the same and all the gamers of the world will be in Heaven in 2014 when all these awesome games come out.

If true, then hopefully for good reasons. Microsoft have some great things to bring over into the next-gen (not so much Kinect), so i'd love to see a 360-esque system with a bigger focus on graphics, and a bigger push from them in terms of first-party (not including XBLA).

What do I make of it? Most likely that Sony caught MS off guard and now they feel they need more time to effectively counter.

They are trying to get rid of the Always Online and blocking used games.

They could delay it until 2014 if necessary to change the specs. I agree it seems WAY to late now though to hit a 2013 launch unless the specs are 99.99% final.

If it's just a matter of bumping RAM from 4 to 8GB, or maybe going with a higher CPU clock speed, that would probably only cause a slight delay. Although at some point if you are hitting a 2013 window not only do specs need to be final, but production would have to be getting ramped up in the next few months.

Not totally true.  They are stuck with what they have in silicon, but they can still tweak frequencies.  

What do I make of it? Most likely that Sony caught MS off guard and now they feel they need more time to effectively counter.

The next Xbox was reported to be announced in late April, something that Microsoft insiders had confirmed, along with corroboration by way of the registration of the xboxevent.com domain. Now it seems, however, that they are delaying it to late May, pushing it periliously close to E3.

What do you all make of this?

It's too late to re-spec a games console without a) taking a massive hit as far as finances are concerned, and b) delaying the console's release by at least a year, giving Sony a clear playing field. No, these things are planned well in time. It is possible that maybe Microsoft was taken aback at how high specc'd the PS4 was, but they will not re-spec the next Xbox.charizard1605

Yet Sony surprised their own devs when they announced the PS4 recently with 8 GB ram while their games where targeted on half that amount so Sony can but MS can't ?

And maybe they won't have to as nothing about the next Xbox is even announced .

Word on the street is that The Nextbox is actually Kinect. Just a new Kinect.
