So, I guess i'll take that for no...

Next time, i'll try to pay games monthly...

Leejjohno

again, if one can't afford the service, then one shouldn't buy it. doesn't matter if its monthly or yearly. $50 isn't going to break most people.

But *ALL* people *ARE* being ripped off if they do pay.

Do you pay your car company an additional $50 a year so you can drive on motor ways?

No, but some people do pay to use tollways, for people that don't, there's the regular roads and more traffic. It's a choice, if you knowingly pay and it's your choice, it isn't a rip off. If you don't like paying for xbox live, then don't, just enjoy your free psn and pc online. I prefer xbox live to either of those, therefore I pay. I'm sure 50 dollars a year is a big deal for some, but in my opinion if it is, then you should pick another hobby besides gaming.

clone01

no. but you do pay on some toll roads. if you are so empassioned about this, might i suggest you use a free service like PSN or Steam. sorry, but it just doesn't really bother me that much. it comes down to very little money when taken in the context of gaming in general, which is a fairly expensive hobby.

Toll roads are government schemes, I didn't realise a pl company could tax you for using their services.

And according to freedom of speech, which so many of these fine countries are supposed to have, I have the right to complain about absolutely anything I want.... In otherwords, I like using XBL, I just think it should be free to play all these online games which we host.

And guess what, XBL not being free is number 1 on my **** list. Get used to it because people are complaining for a reason. It *SHOULD* be free.

actually, toll roads are set up the way they are to provide superior road surface and less traffic for a fee. that really isn't a tax system, as you pay to use it up front. unfortunately, if you really feel the service should be free, you shouldn't be using it. that's the only way to really get a message across to a corporation. that, or start a petition.

But you still pay for it anyways. Brilliant. Way to get your message across.

I will pay for it. I would just rather have another couple of games a year added to my quite meager collection than pay for using my console and my internet connection a second time over.

I don't have a job, but I can afford to play games, I just find that the £80 I have spent on XBL in total would be a nice thing to have considering the decent games coming out in the near future and the fact that my only income this year has been Christmas and my Birthday.

Why would I use a service like PSN where I know virtually nobody who has a PS3 AND plays on it. I have a small collection of friends on xbl and I enjoy playing with them on a regular basis. How can I have that on PC? Even though it is superior, most of my friends are ignorant to that superiority.

That is why I suggested a gamers strike, and imo that would be the single most effective thing we could do to them, but I doubt many people could stand being away from XBL for a lengthy period of time. the larger population is probably addicted to it.

Let's face it, the majority of decent games on the 360 are only good online.

the guy in charge of XBL is a genius, making people believe that PAYING to PLAY a game you already PAID for is 'cool'.

People ALWAYS forget that 'XBOX LIVE' is also on PC, ALL its FEATURES, and EVERYTHING, I repeat the EXACT SAME LIVE on XBOX is the EXACT SAME THING ON PC, yet, initially they wanted to CHARGE PC gamers, but PC gamers as smart as they are, REFUSED to PAY, thats why 'XBOX LIVE' on PC is 100% FREE. yet they still charge 360 players, why because 360 players are willing to pay, so why should they stop.

FACT: if every 360 gamers refuses to PAY for LIVE, MS will make it FREE. but people just cant get enough of Halo and Gears, and MS knows this, thats why MS will forever keep charging 360 gamers for XBL.

Anyone who thinks MS CANT AFFORD to make it FREE, or the FEES the gamers PAY actually help them make it a better service, is either a kid, teen or a complete idiot.

so why is XBL a paid service? because people refuse NOT to pay for it. nothing more, nothing less.

Thank you for reading. please feel free to agree, disagree, flame, ice, shield or whatever.

xxThyLordxx

lol what do you want a protest? a hunger strike? its 4$ a month thats like a soda a week

dont pay if you dont wanna play online simple as that

Alright, since your so eager to argument with me... let's have it.

First of all, you can't pay monthly... you pay full price one time (yearly), just like any game you buy in a store. So stop saying it's only $4 a month or this a day... I can't pay like that. Chances are, if you had a X360 from the start plus paying Live from the start, you probably own the most expensive console of all time (Oh and let's not forget the HD-DVD add on). The only reason people are paying is because they've accepted, but things could of turn around if they've had chosen the second option (I remember there was the ability to play online for free at first). And that, for Microsoft, is easy money.

Second, it's not about the price... it's about the concept. Since, I buy a game full price, I expect full features unlocked... Just like any other system out there. If anything you can keep whatever features live offers, just let me the ability to play online. It's not like I have any dedicated server to play online in a nice P2P system.

you completely missed the point. Its because they are WILLING to pay. Sony has a smaller user base and is making less profit than MS, and their online is free. I'm sure MS can do the same.

possibly, but many users, like myself, don't mind paying. you always have your choice as a consumer.

its not really a choice..you NEED it to play games like COD4 online. Without online.. COD4 isn't one-third the game it is.

Its better than both Wii and PS3 online.. /thread.. Furthermore pc gaming as a pc gamer is not a legitimate argument.. The console system is a closed system, and MMOs for one game cost 3 times more than XBL.. Cost should be a non issue, I mean I spend more havign my tv on a month.

Ahh, this. A gold membership is what..8 bucks? If you can afford a TV, an xbox 360, maybe even a headset, and $60+ dollar games, paying 8 bucks a MONTH isn't nothing.

If they made it so you pay £40 for exclusive demos, video coverage, special offers and gaming news I would probably get it anyway. Price is not the point here.

I have to say this is regularly a hot topic. In a different thread on the same topic this is being hammered about. Your entitled to your feelings, and opinions. In a free market society, like ours, MS has a right to charge for whatever they deem they provide to their customers. The "it should be free" argument is weak imo, because it's against some very basic freedoms that my country tries to stand for. It shouldn't be free, it should be whatever MS wants it to be. Use it or don't. That's our freedom.

actually, you're the one who consistently decides to pick a fight with me. i really don't care all that much. as i said before, the consumer always has an option, which is to not pay. if you feel so slighted by the deal, i suggest you use a free service like PSN or Steam.

[QUOTE="clone01"] oh, careful, you'll get the ridiculous "bu...bu...bu...it doesn't let me pay teh monthly, i have to buy teh year. teh monopoly!" ;)clone01

And this is why Microsoft knew people would pay for a free service on other system. There marketing is brilliant...

yes. it is. still, you seem to be one of the only people on this board who really cares.

Infact I don't care... but i'd pretty mad if they made us paid for PC gamers... Yes, they tried and failed, since Live is now free for PC.

[QUOTE="Bebi_vegeta"]Alright, since your so eager to argument with me... let's have it.

It's not like I have any dedicated server to play online in a nice P2P system.

clone01

actually, you're the one who consistently decides to pick a fight with me. i really don't care all that much. as i said before, the consumer always has an option, which is to not pay. if you feel so slighted by the deal, i suggest you use a free service like PSN or Steam.

How did I pick a fight with you when I first quoted Verge? Please, atleast admit this is your doing.

"It's cool to pay to play a game you already payed for."

Kid its $4.50 a mounth to play some games with my friends. I could care less if it was for free or paid.

cainetao11

It's not 4.50 a month, it's $60 (or 50 in the states) a year.

Yes, now divide that by 12, as in months.

is that how you buy games now? Montly based?

what, exactly, am i doing? the only thing i've repeated, time and time again, is that if a consumer does not agree with the fee of XBL, then that consumer does not have to pay.

[QUOTE="Verge_6"] To you. And you have just stated that you have a reason for paying online, and that reason apparently justifies you paying for the fee, or overrides your revulsion with doing so to an extent that you would rather have the service than not have it. I rest my case.cainetao11

Look, all I am saying is it should be free.

Think of it as being limited, not being provided. That's how it looks from my seat.

Not the car company, but the government. I believe it's called Registration.

[QUOTE="clone01"] no. but you do pay on some toll roads. if you are so empassioned about this, might i suggest you use a free service like PSN or Steam. sorry, but it just doesn't really bother me that much. it comes down to very little money when taken in the context of gaming in general, which is a fairly expensive hobby.clone01

Anyway, many toll roads are privately owned.

Well you are kind of right. The reason live has a fee is because a lot of people are willing to pay but is the fee really that big of a deal? I would understand if it was was around $15.00 a month or $150 a year but it's only $50 a year or $30 if you know you to find deals.

I paid $30 for two 12 month cards when they were on sale, with the bonus month each, I paid $60 for 26 months.

Just need to know when to buy, and even the regular price, 39.99 from microsoft, for 13 months of play isn't that expensive.

bu...bu...bu...the principal. /sarcasm. what cracks me up is that people here complain to no end that the service should be free, and then they pay anyway.

Exactly bro. Complaining is basically telling everyone you want xbox live. You just want it on your terms. But that's what I and others defend here. They have a legal right to charge a fee regardless of what some think. We have a legal right to not pay for it.

Such as?

finalstar2007

DLC, Arcade games, Community games, Movies, Game/Music Videos, Gamerpics, Themes, Updates (NXE) & Inside Xbox features? That said, I'm not trying to defend the cost of XBL Gold itself, since Silver members can access all that anyway...

.

All of those stuff are on sony's ps3 for FREE

I never said it wasn't. It just means in the end they're making a lot less money than MS in terms of online.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ps4 online cost a monthly fee now MS have shown how willing people are to pay for online, but at the moment, yay for Ps3 owners.

Wait a minute? I am suppose to care how much money they make? Its awesome that Sony is making that sacrifice of not making people pay for PSN. BTW they still make money of it from DLC.

that's why I refuse to pay for live, that's why I refuse to pay for cable tv.. they're both overpriced and anyone supporting them just continue the cycle of allowing them to charge at high prices

some people here are defending freedom just for the sake of freedom.. why not defend the lobbyists who shape the government behind closed doors while you're on a brigade for freedom
