Microsoft is now BEGGING the Obama administration to finally let them disclose what is going on with NSA.
http://allthingsd.com/20130716/microsoft-asks-attorney-general-to-intervene-in-request-to-disclose-prism-info/

They're scared sh*tless that this is going to kill not just the Xbox One, but what little worth their brand name still is worth.

Reminder: The Guardian revealed a few days ago that Microsoft is fully cooperating with the NSA, allows full access to encrypted emails and messages, and lets governments around the world spy on Skype calls and video without even a court order.
Microsoft has also been caught lying, claiming that this cannot happen just last year.

Now the Xbox One is being slammed hard for its always-on Kinect and mic, potentially letting the US government spy on everyone's houses at all times with no court order - a direct violation of the 4th amendment according to the ACLU.

This is actually a failure of massive proportions.

First I thought, it was just weaker hardware but the games would redeem it.

Then it was mandatory kinect.

Then it was no indie support.

Then now it's violating privacy and constitution.

Only MS under Ballmer could this have happened.

Happening because of the government, so MS, Apple, Facebook all have to comply. Its the governments fault not these corporations fault.

I could put on quite a show with my Kinect (if I had one) for anyone willing to watch.

If a couple suits want to watch me get freak nasty on Dance Central, I'm game.

Maybe the Prism controversy will lead to MS getting rid of packed in, mandatory Kinect. That would be nice.getyeryayasout

Yea, but then how will we change the Cable TV channels on the Xbox One?

Using buttons and analog sticks?

/GASP!!!

Since this thread has been done to death Ill just copy/paste my comments from another one.

prism-slide-4.jpg

Microsoft was the first company to voluntarily sign, approve and support the PRISM program which the NSA started.

As you can see Skype is also on the list which is owned by microsoft and is also a big feature on the xbox one. But you can see that things like voip, video conferencing, videos, email, chat and so on are all things supported by the xbox one via the camera and microphone in the kinect. Kinect is also required to be hooked up in order for the system to even work. The most trouble is the final notation called "Special requests" which essentially means anything the NSA wants.

My source for this comes from the washington post http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/special/politics/prism-collection-documents/

Microsoft also has a patent in place that allows them to watch users for the MPAA and RIAA.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/the-extent-of-kinect-2-s-visual-drm-is-beginning-to-emerge/0116138

The NSA's PRISM program has several loopholes and work arounds for spying without a warrant.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jun/21/new-details-emerge-nsa-warrantless-snooping-americ/

So who is to stay they dont monitor users and if a red flag word is detected they decide to start watching you. Here is a list of keywords they were forced to disclose as being red flags in monitoring social media

http://www.fortytwotimes.com/3626/heres-the-ultimate-list-of-keywords-to-use-to-let-the-government-know-its-cool-to-spy-on-you/

Even as a hermit and being biased towards the PS4, I'm reluctant to directly blame MS.

I rather doubt they'd have the option of refusing.

It's because of people like you is why people like Snowden are being ostracized and charged with espionage while the government slowly posts cameras at every block because "ITS NOT LIKE I HAVE ANYTHING TO HIDE, ITS NOT LIKE ITS VIOLATING MY RIGHTS AND THE AMENDMENT OF MY FOREFATHERS". Do you really want america to slowly turn into a surveillance state?

It's an argument that never ends;

Im sure you've figured out by now that people won't like the government spying them on a whim.

People with strong american values would definitely not appreciate this.

Your stance is a joke, yes people are obviously bothered by this.

Look up the Snowden case, his leaked documents show a plan to turn america into a surveillance state, and there was a massive backlash against the american government because of that. So obviously people care.

TL;DR Weak argument, thinly veiled as a "stance".

But it may be a slippery slope. You may not be doing anything "wrong" now, but they idea of what 'wrong' is may change. And then what?

4th Amendment

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I bet you sincerely think you're being clever.

0/10 get out of here, troll.

i asked if you were a terrorist. i wasn't accusing you of being a terrorist. that's a distinction you seem to have missed. how am i trolling? you're the one dishing out the insults.

You're acting stupid, I don't even know why im replying to you, you're obviously a troll or an extremely edgy fedoracore outlaw that doesn't care about anything except MLP.

What a crappy thread. No one gives a shit really. Just the people who literally exist to complain. Sad sad lives.

So then what are you even doing here if you're not going to contribute anything? You're just a waste of bandwidth, no more better than the shills that spam advertisement everywhere.  You don't care? Okay fair enough. . While theres no official statistic, you can be sure that yes, a lot of aren't hypnotized gerbils.

I must point out that these days they give Nobel Peace Prizes to people who just got done giving a speech on "why we should stay at war in Afghanistan."
