Only an idiot would say that.

Not my thing to have superpower governments watch me all the time, but to each his own.

Then I highly suggest you get off the Internet, and never use a cellphone. But my comment was aimed at you claiming an entire group of people are idiots for not buying into the whole "Big Brother" thing. Whatever, I guess.

Do you like the government agents standing outside your door house looking through your windows all day watching and monitoring your every move?? Making it digitally possible doesn't make monitoring any more comfortable :?

HAZE-Unit

I think that's precisely it. The intangiblity of being watched digitally concerns relatively no one compared to how outraged everyone would be if cameras were installed in vehicles or homes. But why would the government even need to do that? Digitally they have all the info they would ever need. "Public safety," "acts against terrorism," etc... certain key phrases are enough to force compliance. For all the bitching and griping Americans give their politicians and government officials they seem to be okay with banking on goodwill and "for the greater good."

So why aren't you allowed to know what they (the government) are up to? Do you not as a citizen have a right to be fully aware of your governments intentions and plans? Why is it when a person like Snowden is truthful and transparent between his fellow citizens he is labeled a traitor? Why is it okay to betray a country's people but not the government?

I've said it in another thread, but Xbox One will not be plugged in near me at anytime (at home or friend's house), unless its at work since I kinda make games for it.

Understand that with the shakey ground the 1st and 4th Amendment now stand on in this country, I do not want to run the risk of jokingly or sarcastically saying something in my own home or in my personal space, then being thrown in jail for it without a trial.

Melodramatic? Absolutely, but that exact scenario happened in the last 6 months in the US. You can throw away your rights for "teh microsoft vidyagames" if you want, but I rather enjoy the country I grew up in, and will try my best to uphold what it once stood for for as long as possible.

does this really, truthfully bother anyone?

HAZE-Unit

Do you really, truthfully do not see how it does bother people ?? what a ridiculous and pretend to be naive of a question you got here, why do people pretend to be dumb when I know they are actually smart people? do you like to look dumb?

But I'll answer your question.

Do you like the government agents standing outside your door house looking through your windows all day watching and monitoring your every move?? Making it digitally possible doesn't make monitoring any more comfortable :?

This puts everybody on risk of being exposed to the world. The government could and they probably already took control of a lot of famous, powerful and influential people in the country ( Also internationally famous/powerful I suppose ) by threatening them with exposing their privacy thanks to the NSA practices.

They could easily accuse a regular guy of being a terrorist with this kind of surveillance....The possibilities are endless and Im not talking about Xbox here, Im talking about the whole operation which is PRISM.

You guys should care, you should defend your rights and privacy, I don't know why this generation is so freaking lazy of doing anything ( and Im not pointing fingers at you only here, Im talking in general )? why no protests? Why no prosecution?

Did the government really hypnotize you to this level? DO SOMETHING!

i understand people's feelings regarding a perceived loss of privacy but it has no effect on my life. this has been blown out of porportion and people are making mountains out of mole hills. do you really think that there's going to be people constantly monitoring you? even if they are, i don't care if ms or the government knows that i ordered a pizza last friday. i don't care if they know whether i sit on the left or right side of the couch.

Read the documents on what was leaked; it isn't a 1:1 person to overseer, its software that is collecting and compiling data on all things you. Then, should you ever be a person of interest for whatever reason, they'll have anything and everything they'll ever need. Do they care that you ordered pizza last friday? Not really, but they might care if you joked about burning down that post office you don't like cause they have long lines, and now thats all they need to lock you up. So yeah, no thanks.

LOL, they already got caught red-handed handing out Skype text chats, voice calls, and video calls, all for free to the NSA, and you seriously think they're gonna protect you and stand up for your privacy after that?

FYI, according to the article, Microsoft could have told the NSA to go fvck themselves and to bring a court order before anything, but they didn't, and that says a lot of things about them.

lol. There is software that is officially only used in prisons and some schools that can automatically ID people, and their actions. Such as 'climbing' 'waiting' 'talking' 'agressive bodylanguage' 'anxious bodylanguage' and can send red flags to the operators when something fishy happens or when it reads that someone is behaving abnormally. With a mic, that software gets a whole lot more information to index people with.

I'm not too bothered by Kinect 2.0, but you people (not you Casey) are just completely ignorant about the balance of power between a government and its people. The balance of power is not so much about whether they do that, but about whether they can. They have the power to legally arrest you and detain you without a fair trial on the basis of nothing (Guantanamo). So if you say suspicious things and have a lot of money, they may decide to erase you from USA society just to be safe. Probably they won't, but they sure as hell can and that upsets the balance.

The proper way to lose your privacy (because that seems to be unavoidable), is to have the governments lose their privacy likewise. If you want to prevent a completely powercrazy government, you shouldn't have their role be to rule over all people but to guide society into working the best it can. (Human behaviour is determined by the role its given.) They're not above you but with you, so they should lose all privacy likewise. (Which is almost impossible to do because the government needs so many things to remain secret. That is why, for people to lose their privacy safely, we are going to need a global government.)

::cheers for NWO::

Absolutely. The whole thing makes the required kinect for the XB1 seem even more creepy. I'm sure as shit never getting an XB1, and this is one of the biggest reasons. If either of my roommates gets one, I'm not letting them set it up in the living room. They can have that bullshit in their room.

Skype calls were monitored way before the Microsoft acquisition, homie. And again, that's the same thing as what Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc. are doing. All calls, all texts, all emails. It's all monitored, yet Microsoft is being attack for doing it. It was announced a while back that all calls and texts on a Verizon phone since April 27th were saved, but close to no hate on Verizon. This is all overblown cowshit.Microsoft wants to get the information on how they are assisting the NSA out there. If they want it out there, it can't be bad. If they hid it, without the command of the NSA, that's when you would need to be worried.

They could have told the NSA no -- sure. But they are probably helping them in a way far from what is assumed. Again, if they're trying to get permission to release the info, it can't be bad.

My plan is to unplug the system when I'm not using it. It's not the Governments right to know what I do in the house that I pay for and I maintain. I don't want to feel like I am in a police state and that is basically what something like this leads towards. I hope they do away with this.

My stance is that it is illegal for a random man to just be peeping into my windows, so why should the Government be able to do it.

Exactly. This is an atrocity and a violation of basic human rights and a violation of the fourth amendment. The argument (oh sorry "stance") of "I dont care" is utterly juvenile when it comes to matters like this. You don't see anyone in a political debate shrugging and saying "I dont care" about the holocaust (one of the worst atrocities comitted by a police state) and expect to be taken seriously.

Thank god Casey is no longer a mod, the thought that that ignorant man possibly held power over this board, however arbitrary it is scares me, atleast GS higher mods have better judgement in these matters.

I honestly still dont get why anyone would want to buy a more expenisve console that has worse specs? Do people really want that next-gen Kinect that badly? Dont say its the games either because none of those games are even released yet and could just as easily end up being huge turds just as much as Sonys lineup.

But its not about having the exact same views, its about facts.

  1. Fact is, a lot of people care about the USA and it's increasing surveillance.
  2. Fact is, a lot of people care about this Xbox/NSA/Surveillance debacle
  3. Fact is, I dont care that you don't care
  4. Fact is, this is violating the fourth amendment.

Those are four fundamental facts that you simply cannot deny.

Four fundamental facts that you have been tittering around with the weaksauce stance of "I DONT CARE LULZ"

ClassicRockFTW

You can't deny those facts, I don't give a flying fvck about your worthless opinion, but you keep acting like those aren't facts of which I and about 20 other System Warrios keep pointing out to you. Now tell me Casey, of those four which ones aren't facts? Get over those facts? LOL Why don't YOU get over the fact that no here in GS one cares about you nor respects you, get out of here and stop trolling Casey.

It surprises me how many still think this is a conspiracy theory & calling others idiots for believing in it, when Obama himself declared it as fact.

And equaly surprises me how many aren't getting the concept of personal privacy =/= illegal activity.

"why should you worry if you're not doing something wrong" is equally absured to "let me install a camera in your bathroom, why should you care if you're not doing something wrong".

The herd mentality level of intellect is really alarming in our society.

Now the Xbox One is being slammed hard for its always-on Kinect and mic, potentially letting the US government spy on everyone's houses at all times with no court order - a direct violation of the 4th amendment according to the ACLU.

  ClassicRockFTW

That is incredibly unlikely.

What if your dad has a lapse in judgement and makes a poor joke about being a "won't say it cause the governement will track me."  Now he is in prison for ten years.

Don't beleive me? ? ?   Someone made a joke while playing Leauge of Legends and is now facing 10 years in prison.  Google it.

It's your socratic discussion method.

It puts people on the defensive. They're not used to that.

It also made him a lot of friends and enemies. Check his Apology and you'll see: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13726 or http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1656

Yeah, that case is some BS. The kid was clearly joking, and he's been in jail for months already over the joke...

Incredibly unlikely things happen all the time. Almost every day in fact. Actually, I could point some that, sadly, happen every day.

Lol @ people saying who cares. Idk about you guys but If there was a possibility that someone was staring at you in your room watching you do everything and listening to you, you wouldn't be bothered? Does the "I don't have nothing to hide so idc about my privacy" still apply? Do you have curtains in your house? Do you lock your doors?

But if I'm not mistaken, at any time, they could tap into your Kinect and watch right? Or listen in?

Then how exactly do you know "its not really that" then? Besides the "lock your doors" analogy. Look, the government tracking my phone calls or texts or whatever is one thing.... the government being able to record me in MY HOME is another. Not happy about that idea.

You can disable Kinect, but MS PR is too dumb to shut you up with fool proof tutorials. But, I think it is time for them to make sure it can be disconnected entirely, the bashing the is annoying enough for me to agree the change needs to be made.magicalclick
Yeah, they're whining to the NSA about wanting to disclose what they do, but why not just allow the XBox One to function without the Kinect? This would also stop people from worrying about what would happen if their kids broke the Kinect or something. The console should retain functionality without the Kinect...

You are a coward if you think letting government or any big corporation spy on you is ok. For now this is still America, but it wont be for long with sissys like you that just "dont care" about anything. There are not enough real men left in this country to stand up to this shit I am afraid.

Well no crap. Not everyone will get monitored. Just an unlucky few, right?
