So I took a look at Amazon's best sellers list for July and found that Xbox One S is at #62 for the month. While the PS4 Black Ops 3 bundle is at #20.

Here's the link.

So according to Amazon, the Xbox One S didn't sell any better than the original Xbox One in a typical month. Given that Amazon has been a reliable indicator of how console sales end up for the month, what's the likelihood of PS4 outselling the Xbox One S for July's NPD?

Note: July's NPD coverage goes into August so preorders and sales from the first day or two of the Xbox One S will count for July.

UPDATE:

Just checked June's rankings and it seems that June is when most of the preorders occurred.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2016-06/videogames#1

This explains the really low numbers for July. There's verry little chance of the PS4 outselling the Xbox One slim now. This reminds me of the Batman Bundles last year.

Literally the exact opposite.

Xbox One S was sold out in the UK by yesterday, which was a day before it had even launched there.

Well perhaps in the UK it's doing well. We'll just have to see.

It is currently doing well on amazon. It's at #6 right now.

The slim only started overtaking the PS4 on Amazon two weeks ago and is still ahead. Gamestop said it was most pre-ordered item at its store worldwide. And like Charizard said the 2tb model sold out immediately in the UK. Sales are not underwhelming so far they probably exceeding expectations.

This is why I don't like going by Amazon's current trends. It seemed like the Xbox One S was trending well, but when the month ended it sank to #62.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it selling well. Just wondering why there's such a large discrepancy between the trends and the actual standings.

I'm not sure why Amazon puts prepaid Sony cards and various controllers on the same list as consoles and videogames.

That be counting sales for the whole of June? I just noticed the slim taking the lead over PS4 last two weeks of June.

Today to see Slim is 4th in hourly charts and PS4 is 16th

Mind you this is only the Amazon hourly chart for United States.

Gears of War is very popular in the United States and UK, i think sales increasing could be due to that game coming out soon?

NO OP.

It's flying off the shelves they said they were sold out at several retailers.

Digital foundry and some youtubers got them and were showing them off.

Well, we can close this thread up now, lol. It's the complete opposite. What he could do is post that PS4 sales are underwhelming. Look at how far below the Xbox they are. And the nearly 40% drop the PS4 last month? Yikes.

I guess this proves that some are just gonna wait for Scorpio and let's remember this is a slim model, (4K rendering is just a bonus) and why buy a slim when everyone knows the real deal Scorpio is right around the corner?

I'm not obsessed with sales(not a jab at the TC) but I certainly do a little reading about them here and there, and from what I read its selling quite well. There is also the Gears 4 version which comes out in around 2 months.

Well the Amazon chart I posted only counts July, Although NPD will count June's preorders along with July preorder and the sales for today into July's NPD. So there's a very high chance of Xbox One Slim taking July easily. But those July numbers from Amazon made me question that assumption.

Actually its proves the opposite gamers like the price of the slim and are buying it now and ignored the doom and gloom some sites tried to push.

2tb sells out before even launches in the UK, Most pre-ordered item at Gamestop, beating PS4 on Amazon all the evidence so far is painting a very different picture then what you wrote.

NPD is only a couple of weeks away i believe we should know then how well the slim did compared to the PS4 within America.

To be honest, I think it would be surprising and very damning if it DIDN'T perform better than the original PS4 in its launch window. Now is exactly the time when the __ number of people who want one badly are going to buy it. It's a brand new system with slick new looks and features that launches with the old version of the system's already large and established library.

Maybe it's just me thinking, *why replace what is working perfectly fine* is what I mean by that. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad S is turning out fine but I for one never have a problem with the actual Xbox One size, I just think it's alright the way it is, same for PS4.

I agree. That's why when I saw the charts for July, I was surprised to see it at 62 and not ahead of the PS4's 20. It was trending ahead of the PS4 for a good portion of June and July, like it is right now. Last I saw it was at 4.

I'm not sure I really need the XB1S for now, but I do need a new controller, if they're doing $150 trade ins for Xbox Ones at GameStop just toward the 2TB XB1S, but if they offer that for the $300 500GB model I might, after all I need a new controller for one because I'm moving further into unmanageable stick drift on my controller. That'd be at least $60, so taking my $150 trade, add $60 for the controller I'd of bought anyways, the difference on an XB1S upgrade would be about $90. Maybe the Microsoft Store will offer an equal or better promotion in the coming weeks as the 500GB/1TB models release.

Or maybe what I need is a new controller. They promised new design has sturdier analog, wasn't quite sure what the improvements are. It's not like my controller had an issue with the grip rubbing off like on PS4 controllers. My problems with the sticks are mechanical, in the modules, hopefully that's addressed. Most my stick drift problems are fixed by blowing down into the housing of the affected analog. I've come to the conclusion the stick drift comes from the rubbing off of the plastic under the thumbsticks when the thumbsticks rotate around and against the edge guard for the module. It doesn't look like much but on very used controllers you can see that line from playing, and that comes off as plastic dust from the frictions. So, plastic dust eventually seeps down under, blocking the sensor on the analog module. I could be wrong, but from the looks of it the modules detect motion on the outside of the module by measuring rotation of the axis with external sensors, making them vulnerable to such dust accumulation under the module housing. That to me seems to be why to avoid stick drift I must always blow down into there before playing and on occasion while playing. Or, maybe it's not dust from that, maybe it's just that accumulated funk that seems to make its way into things, like when you open a cellphone open even though you haven't opened it since the day you bought it and it's all kind of funky inside? Maybe it's something like that, I dunno, air seems to take care of it. Anyhow, I want that new controller, I hope they sell it seperately so I can get it if I don't put down for an XB1S.

There is no doubt that it will get a bump because it is just coming out, but I think it will probably fizzle out pretty quick since it's only a slimmer xbone with 4k

The controller has bluetooth i think thats cool feature if you PC game. I have to plug mine in to game on PC.

The slim is really small you could carry it anywhere easily now as it has know battery pack. The console has a 4k Bluray can do HDR gaming unlike the xbox one and PS4. I see what people want one its a good price.

I have not got 4K tv so i not bothered and not likely to upgrade, but i am interested more know in HDR gaming when Scorpio is out, so i may have to look upgrading my 1080p tv to 4K..

What's telling is how much more PS4 software is still selling than Xbone software on Amazon. Why is no one buying any games to go with there new Xbone S? Looks like it really is selling because its a 4k bluray player and not because of games.

Digital is huge right now did Ubisoft not say recently 75 per cent of their revenue was digital?

I would not be so hasty. There are a lot of people re-buying for an S Model and the thing has been on preorder for the better part of two months. The sales, at least for this month, will be strong for the S model. Microsoft was also very smart in giving the S model an incremental upgrade in the hardware instead of the typical mini-model revision we tend to get in a half-gen. This means that buyers looking for a cheap used XBone will have to decide if it is worth waiting for an upgraded model or settle for the price of the original model.

The only thing to be extrapolated from this position in the sales race, and can only be extrapolated if it remains low from now on, is that the S Model has not greatly changed the demand curve for the XBox brand name. After all, the Bone was teetering in and out of the top 100 before the S model was announced. It is reasonable to expect a big surge in sales from current owners wanting to upgrade. It is looking unreasonable to expect some kind of resurgance of the XBox brand in the console space as a result of that.

Why is digital not hurting PS4 physical software sales then? Stop making excuses. This thing is selling well early on to people with 4k TV's looking for a deal on a 4K bluray player. As far as gaming goes its the same exact console that hasn't been selling for the past 3 years only without a power brick.

I bet there are a lot of people buying for the 1st time as well. Why do you cows always have to try and spin any MS news into something bad?
