Xbox One S Sales Underwhelming so far? UPDATE: It appears not

Because there is literally no evidence of this happening, but a mountain of evidence people are retreading.

@charizard1605: Sellout is a useless metric without context. How many units sold? 5? 50? 50,000,000? Microsoft has a history of using sellouts as a part of their marketing strategy. At the 360 launch MS shipped in small and frequent bursts to ensure "sellouts", they also made sure that the retailers had "sold out" signs to create artificial demand.

Nobody wanted the original Xbone, I don't see how changing its spots will significantly increase sales.

Stop when you get to the post where someone says they are finally getting on board with the XBone with the S Model.

Great news for the game for sure! I am buying the PS4 version and the Microsoft Windows version next week. I see that the X1S is only two spots behind it at $400.

Not a cow, but Amazon has been wrong about twice this whole generation. I'm not saying it will be underwhelming, I was just confused since their trends said preorders were at the top but total sales weren't.

If I were a Lem, I'd be more concerned with how much better the $400 SKU is doing than the 500gb S model. This, more than anything else, points to retreading original Bone users who are less price conscience than any typical mid-gen console adopter.

More and more, this looks like a one month bump before a return to business as usual. It also remains to be seen if there is even a market for second-hand XBones as a result of the retreading owners.

Wouldn't surprise me. Why would any informed consumer buy this now and not Scorpio in just a little over a year?

I fully expect it to sell well launch initially. Hell even the Wii U did that. The real test will be the longevity.

By the time sony cuts the price the XB1 Slim will have taken the USA by storm and it'll be too late nobody wants an old product when a new one is out.

This generation is wrapped up right now bring on the neo or get out sony imo.

This is a huge swing in the console war mid gen upgrades do people stick with the ps4 or go with the fancy xbox slim just like i dunno man lets find out.

It's not an opinion that the 500GB model is tracking way behind the 2TB model in sales. At least currently. We will see what things look like when that SKU drops but it has been swimming upstream since the announcement at e3. I am rather confident in this assertion. In 2016, people paying $400 for a console are previous owners upgrading, not new buyers.

I also believe Neo will not have an effect on new adopters, at least not directly. Second-hand sales of used PS4s as a result of upgraders may push PSN adoption and software sales. That is a side of the coin I am iffy about with the XBox since the basic model is now only $250 as it is.

I wouldn't be worried at all with the good fall lineup Xbox has it'll sell great going into the holidays. People buy new tvs at Christmas time. The same people still on the fence about Xbox One and wanting a 4K player to go with a new tv will buy one.

The rebranding seems like a success to me. The only people I see hating the new Xbox are the usual suspects here.

You guys need to worry more about Neo and PSVR than X1S. It'll do fine for what it's meant to do.

Anyway, trends said the xbox one was selling well through preorders but it ended up ranking extremely low. So that could mean that they won't be winning the July NPD unless they really turned it up yesterday. In the previous NPD thread, the consensus was that since NPD tracks into August, preorders will count for July along with the sales on release day. If Preorders weren't as spectacular, then there's a chance that the Xbox One S won't make it to the top.

I'm in no way saying that this will happen for sure given the success it's been having since yesterday in the UK. I'm also not saying that it won't continue to sell well, but I'm just bringing up the possibility that it could still fall behind the PS4.
