The hardware is the same and open gl supports all the features of dx. If this feature is not there and it is useful it will be added.

I don't know much about hardware but to me it seems like both the PS4/Xbox one are just integrated graphics systems and are somewhat like computers once were without dedicated GPU.metal_zombie

By the way..

AMD has published a demo that presents this technique, the demo is written in OpenGL using an extension. No Direct3D support was announced yet, but I guess it will become a part of one of the next DX versions. The OpenGL extension used internally by AMD was announced, but it is not yet public.
