I know VR isn't for everyone but why doesn't Microsoft at least provide the option to for people that want it? I just got an Oculus quest the other week and it's been pretty amazing playing games like Half-Life Alyx, beat saber, super hot VR, and Skyrim VR modded. Google Earth VR is absolutely amazing also. VR has made great strides in the last 4 years and will only get better with games like Star wars rogue squadron for example. VR or augmented reality is the future whether people want it or not so the lack of VR support for Xbox potentially puts PlayStation and PC at an advantage over time as better games come out and more people want VR. Do you hope that Microsoft gets their act together and at least offers the option?

They will do VR when VR is advanced enough to not having to wear a wired sofa on your head

That's a plus as we need less gimmicks in gaming not more.

I mean Sony has half arsed it and barely supports it why should MS.

@i_p_daily: The added immersion is not a gimmick, it's a game changer. Ready player one is the future whether you accept it or not. I'll be in VR with a treadmill within the next few years while you guys are playing Halo 7, Gears 8. Google Earth VR alone is more mind blowing than anything Xbox has out out in the last ten years

Maybe they'll cave, maybe they won't. Even though MS isn't developing VR games, they could at least allow it on the platform.

You can blame Kinect for that. Since Kinect flopped, Microsoft have been much more cautious moving into new gaming tech.

Yeah, best just to ignore him. The guy is an obsessive VR hater despite the fact that he has never played a single VR game, lol. Freaking sad dude.

With concern to the topic, absolutely MS has dropped the ball by not including VR with their new consoles. Having VR is a huge advantage for a console and for PC, and that advantage will only increase as the tech grows and evolves. Good PC VR, with an appropriately powerful rig, is incredible. Most people that hate on it simply can't afford it, so they try to downplay how amazing it is.

And that's fair. If you've tried it out, meaning you've actually put in time with quality VR, and you still don't like, then yeah, it's probably just not for you. The immersion can be overwhelming. Some people just want to stick with flatscreen.

The only thing I got out of Ready Player One is how much Spielberg has lost his touch over the years. The movie could have explored VR in intriguing ways but it was nothing more than a mere skin. The movie was literally "find the Easter egg" and Spielberg trying hard to be edgy while being so out-of-touch with current generations.

Anyways, I would suspect if VR ever became mainstream, other companies will jump aboard and Microsoft is no exception to that possibility.

Easy to spot the VR nutjobs on here.

The majority of gamers disagree with you, just because YOU like it doesn't make it the BEST THING EVA lol.

That is correct I've never played one, however you're asking a VR nutjob that are 110% invested in it and think its going to take over gaming and be the normal way to play games.

My advice do some research outside of system wars.

No problem. Yes, VR can make you sick, VERY sick if you're not careful. Your brain has to get used to it, but it really depends on the person. Some people feel nauseous right away, others after a while, and others not at all. If you play it and feel nauseous, stop playing. Take a rest, go back to it the next day. Play in little spurts until you begin get uncomfortable each time, then stop. Having a fan blowing on you helps immensely. Don't play on an empty stomach. Just take your time. After a while your brain will adapt, and you will no longer feel sickness. This is how it worked with me. I got nauseous here and there at first, but in time I adapted. Now I never get sick, not even a little bit. I can handle any VR game with ease.

Well, that might be your problem. RE7 is one of the first mainstream VR games. The tech has come a loooong way since then. Half Life: Alyx is a great place to start to catch up. It's not what I would call "hardcore" VR, but it is amazing in its own right. But that's just one title. There have been tons of great VR games since RE7, which you can't even use motion controllers/finger tracking with, not to mention the fact that the game was not built from the ground up for VR.

It really is. I mean, good VR is revolutionary, seriously. It gives you feelings that flatscreen just plain can't achieve. Have you tried No Man's Sky VR yet?

And these reasons are why VR will NEVER go mainstream, or "the future" that TC insinuates. VR is never going to surpass screen gaming.

The simple fact health effects is a factor, you already lost mass potential demographics.

If you need to see at history, they've attempted to make 3D go mainstream many times since the 80's, and every time they end up being just fads that whimper away until the next time they try to bring it back and subsequently fail again. There's always going to be the fewer people that say "wow 3D is super cool and immersive" whereas the rest will say "wow this is straining my eyes and giving me a headache, I'll stick with 2D."

VR will always fall into that place because health effects are a huge factor that turn people away from these things.

It's neat some people are enthusiasts about VR and seemingly less prone to health effects, but let's not pretend you're the vocal majority here and it's not going to be the future of gaming as TC claims.

VR actually has way more potential in other industries, not gaming.

Well, as I said before, fair enough. It definitely isn't for everybody. As for flatscreen, I'll never give it up even though I'm a fan of VR. I hope flatscreen is around forever, quite honestly.

Yeah, you just have to take your time. The brain needs to adapt. A lot of people don't have the patience for that.

But if you can stick it out, it becomes amazing. Being comfortable in VR is literally out of this world.

It’s funny how people think EVERYONE should like VR. Sorry but real life doesn’t work that way folks.

Well I definitely don't think that. I can fully understand somebody wanting to stick with flatscreen. Some just like to stick with what they know, and that's cool if that's your thing.

@subspecies: Well I don’t care if flat screen is around forever, just as long as it’s around during my lifetime. It certainly isn’t going anywhere for quite awhile at least.

VR just doesn't have that much traction.

@subspecies: You can't expect people to have the patience to put up with something that's hurting them, 'adapting' may or may not happen. That's why you probably see more than many people, people dismissing these things in mere minutes they put the goggles on, because it's hurting them. You can't expect people to put up with that just because you do.

VR may be a cool innovation, but impractical in the world of gaming.

Like I said before, VR will prove to be way more practical in other industries that's not entertainment. I'm excited to see how VR can train doctors, astronauts and many other professions. That's going to be the true future of VR.

Don't think you have anything to worry about, lol. Like you said flatscreen isn't going anywhere. And it shouldn't.

Ok.

But yeah, it takes time to adapt. With some people, it might not even happen. But when it does, and if it does, it's amazing. Good VR gaming is simply that--amazing.

@subspecies: There's no doubt good VR gaming exists and is "simply that--amazing", yet it significantly shuts the door on so many that value their health more than they value putting an electronic device on their head.

Sorry Sub, I know you're passionate for this stuff, but you're always going to be on the losing end of the argument when health is a major factor that turns people away from them.

You should NEVER prioritize an electronic device over health, and you should not expect anyone to be that way just because you can.

VR will be around for people like you that have the tolerance to break past the side-effects, but that's why it will only ever be a niche offering.

Is there news? I highly doubt it because they're investing in VR AR already.

VR is great. I only has PSVR but its honestly quite an amazing experience. Now just waiting for GT7 online VR user only 24 man race, the immersion is gonna be out of this world. Make this happen Sony.

I'm skipping VR, waiting for Elon Musk to break through with a neural link interface. VR is the future's 8-track.

But, it's not hurting your health. You just have to get used to it. A little nausea isn't gonna kill you, lol. When you get accustomed, you feel fine, just like with flatscreen gaming.

They did a really good job with it. Just flying around is so, so cool. Then there's building low-orbit bases and going out to the deck of your frigate in VR and jumping over the railing and falling through the heavens to an alien planet below--in the middle of a radioactive storm. Unbelievable stuff.

@subspecies: I don't think you get it. VR is not posing significant health risks, yet health nonetheless is a big factor that turns people away the same way 3D does.

People at the end of the day want comfortable entertainment, not entertainment that agitates because of the technology they chose to run it on.

Lol, okay, dude. Like most other VR gamers, I just like gaming in VR. Don't really care what others think. And, again, it's not hurting you. You just have to get used to it, then you're good. If it becomes a problem, then stop playing, plain and simple. Otherwise a little nausea at first won't kill you, lol.

Have a nice day! :)
