Yahtzee concludes Resistances 3 >>> Gears 3

I don't really care about this guy, he is far from funny, but I really did like his review of Demon's Souls. I always think of that whenever his name pops up around here lol.

No different than any other person with an opinion, really.

But while I watch Yahtzee for lulz more than anything, I can take more from his review and respect whatever he says about a game more than most reviewers because he doesn't use a numerical scoring system. He doesn't say something in a review, and then go and render it null & void by plastering a number on it. You hear what he has to say, and draw your own conclusions from it.

I agree, Resistance 3 is the hidden gem this yr that know one rly seems to know about. heck I even enjoyed dead island more than gears 3. only enjoyed horde mode this time around.

The point being, that if Yahtzee is taken as a source that Resistance 3 is "better" than Gears 3, they're also accepting from the same source that R3 is a blatant rip-off of HL2 (the whole Ravenholm level, chimera being human conversions like the combine, etc...). He makes some good points. His style is always to bash games though, not for no reason though but he will harp on about the negatives way more than he does the positives. Is Gears a forgettable franchise to me? Yeah, yes it is, it's fun whilst in lasts but there's nothing particularly great about it, even multiplayer.

The series is just to samey, arguably a bunch of videogame series' are like that but a lot of them have huge memorable sections and or narrative to it which bring it above the Gears franchise, like God of War (ok III had a crap story but nonetheless)

Anyhow, I can't really comment on the Resistance comment because I only played 2 for three hours and got bored of it, but it's still not enough to make a fair comparison.

Agreed on this. Most of the stuff they complained about was nonsensical.

But the issues you listed don't exist in Gears of war 3 though.

Calling the Gears series forgetable us asinine. No the series doesn't possess great SP aspects. No the series doesnt possess great MP aspects. However, Horde is easily some of the best co-op of all time. Gears always releases with top notch visuals. Great cover mechanics. When you think of executions in a shooter, chainsaws, curb stomps, you'll immediately think of Gears. Resistance 3 had a much better SP campaign, the MP in both are equally mediocre, but Gears 3 shines brighter everywhere else. Actually co-op other thab lazy co-op campaign with no matchmaking. More polish, better stat tracking, better party system,etc.

The game is hardly "hidden." Just because it didn't garner massive sales and acclaim doesn't mean it's unknown. The Resistance games do have a decent sized fanbase.
