I don't play PC games anymore. Not saying they are bad, but just simply I'm not interested in any of their offerings (not to mention my 8800GT is now getting outdated)

I finished Portal saturday, and yes, it was great. But hermits can keep their PCs, I'll be a console gamer 'till I die.

If by outdated you mean able to play almost every game at 1680x1050 at 30-60fps then sure.

The increasing prevalence of DRM has largely driven me away from PC games. If and when motion controls and their pointer accuracy can bring more RTS titles to the consoles I'll have little use for a gaming PC anymore.

Digital rights management. Its a way for companies to prevent piracy. There are multiple methods for doing so, so I'm not going to explain any of them here.

Digital "Rights" (*snickers*) Management. It's any type of software whose sole purpose is to restrict how many computers a game can be used on. Supposedly it's to stop piracy, but the pirates usually manage to get around it. Which means all these restrictions really end up doing is harass us legitimate consumers and take away our second sale right.

Hilariously enough, PC gaming can actually be cheaper than console gaming if you know what you're doing. It's a bigger investment initially, but it gets cheaper as time goes on. Brand new games are $10 cheaper and there are always tons of sales on Steam (I got GTA IV for $7, for instance). After an initial investment of $600-$700 for a very capable rig, the upgrade costs are only $200 or so every few years.

digital rights management...basically restriction on what you can and cant do with the game. some DRM is perfectly reasonable...like steam and the system used in alpha protocol. other systems are downright daft....like ubis DRM where you need a constant internet connection even for SP games and if it drop....the game immediately stops working and will do so until the conection is restored. incidentally.....dont buy ubi games on the PC unless your internet connection is rock solid. id try and persuade you to boycott ubi games on all platforms for this nonsense but thats really up to you. also if you think consoles are going to get away with non intrusive DRM for much longer...think again. codes for online play are already in. capcom have already used ubis system on the PS3.....this will only get worse on consoles also. publishers want the second hand market dead and buried asap.

It's something I've rarely had a problem with, except Ubis which prevented me from playing the damn game for the first week it got released. :x It can be an issue but I've never had many bad experiences with it. :)

Precisely. Now take into account the price of console games, the initial price of the console, extra peripharels such as extra controllers, HDD, etc, not to mention online gaming (yes PSN your time is coming) insanely priced DLC and avatar clothing which you guys seem to get suckered into. Consoles are probably on par with PC gaming in terms of price. And value for money? PC all the way.

The Pc is superior, I buy all my mulitplat games on it when they are available for it. The problem I have with it is that some of my favorite games dont make it there, and I have to play the inferior console version. Also I think consoles have the better exclusives this gen as well.

I don't even care that my PC costs more than a console.

I don't get why that's ever a concern for anyone. It's like people don't realize that computers are an essential tool that powers the world of today. Without em we'd be in the stoneage. There's just so much they can do. Can't say the same for consoles. Consoles do about 0.001% of the things PC's can do.

But from a gaming standpoint PC's still outclass console by far. Not to say consoles don't get good games, but the fact is that the most 3rd party support is on the PC's, and there is absolutely no limit to what game a PC can play. It's not like a console where RTS games are hindered by the fact that consoles don't have precise controls, or the ability to do so many tasks at once, or an fps game where they need aim-assist to function properly, and even then are much much slower paced than PCs there's still a lack of precision. And if there ever does occur a problem there happens to be these things on all PC's nowadays called USB ports, and they support thousands of peripherals including controllers.

PCs succeed in all areas of gaming. Consoles don't.

You don't upgrade a PC every year. Every 4 years, MAYBE. And yes you can get a 360 for $299 because it's old technology. I can get old PC parts for much cheaper than I can brand new ones. See lucfonzy's post directly above yours. He explains it better than I do.

There's also the fact that there can be literally thousands of free mods available for any game, which adds hours upon hours of gameplay to games, further increasing their value. Console gamers, on the other hand, pay $60 for Modern Warfare 2, then spend $30 more for 10 extra maps, 4 of which were in the first Modern Warfare.

I always forget to add in the MOD argument when it comes to PC gaming! Well done, yes, PC's allow you to customise your game.. get this.. However you want!! Craaaazyyy... and the best part... its FREE woooaahhh.

Not to mention the heaps of free official DLC we get.

Yah, he should literally play the hundreds of other games worth playing on the PC from throughout the years, and start downloading mods people have created for the thousands of PC games out there, and play with those too before he comes to the conclusion that PC gaming is good.

That's a link to a thread that shows how to build a computer that will max most games out today for $635. And I love this argument that you have to buy a completely new computer every year. Where did that come from? Like I said before, you upgrade your video card maybe every 3-4 years. How long was the Xbox out before the 360 was released? 4 or 5 years?

If by outdated you mean able to play almost every game at 1680x1050 at 30-60fps then sure.

I can't play Empire Total War and surely not Shogun 2 unless I go for lowest setting And my CPU is dual core.

I can play Empire at medium on a single 8800GT, high when i enable SLI, but i do have a quad core and the game is quite CPU intensive.

Hmm, I'm going to be a little "out there" and say that neither of you are familiar with PC gaming.

I never play on pc for games but i do know people who do it and they spend LOTS of money in the process.

I'm going to go ahead and say that you made that up. Like xromad01 said, you're getting a computer anyway, so why not make it nice? I can build you a gaming capable desktop for the same price that you can buy a Dell laptop.

Doesn't mean they have to.

I have my computer here that cost me $600. Plays everything I want it to play on high-max, and also plays Crysis around med-high settings. I typically play every game I own at 1920x1080 as that's what my monitor supports.

And I have a friend that has spent probably $2000 to juice his rig, so he can max out everything, and get the best out of his sound system. It's overkill, and he didn't need to do it, but he wanted to because he happens to very much enjoy adding to his PC. He tells me it gives him great joy to install new hardware in it.

I could say the same about console owners.

What about those people, and I know you are out there, who bought an Xbox 360 on release. And then bought the Elite. And then bought a limited edition Elite. They then bought limited edition controllers for their limited edition Elite. Now they are buying the brand new Xbox.

I'm sure there are also people out there who like to add some funky lights to their Xbox. Put it on a fancy stand. Buy a 52inch plasma TV, better yet a HD Projector and get 7.1 surround sound.
