Hmm, I'm going to be a little "out there" and say that neither of you are familiar with PC gaming.

I never play on pc for games but i do know people who do it and they spend LOTS of money in the process.

I'm going to go ahead and say that you made that up. Like xromad01 said, you're getting a computer anyway, so why not make it nice? I can build you a gaming capable desktop for the same price that you can buy a Dell laptop.

Nope i didnt make that up.

Whatever. I have a nice gaming pc ( 5870/i7 920 cpu) and it sits very comfortably next to my xbox360, ps3 and Wii. I enjoy gaming on all of these platforms. I dont feel the need to claim pc gaming is better when i am enjoying games on consoles every bit as much as any game i play on pc.

ok i see that term a lot, what is DRM??

Something people worry about for no reason because they are not smart enough to mod it away.

A pc capable of playing games at console standards can probably be bought for less than what a consoles costs and it's just lovely how the platform scales from there. Wanna play on your tv with a controller? No problem. It's not even hard to set up. Everyone here are able to learn how to do it (with little effort I might add).

There's only really one valid reason to get a console and that's exclusives.

pc is only expensive if you want it to be so.

720p, 60 fps, high settings? Not so expensive and beyond what the consoles manage.

the thing is they may be doing that because they want to not because they have to. there are people who like the best of the best and are willing to pay for it. if thats measn 3000 quid a year then so be it. these are hardware enthusiasts..they love technology. they love to see it in action. the point is you dont NEED to spend 3000 a year to play PC games...its a choice. an option. an extra luxury for those who want and can affoard it. thats the great thing about the PC...you have that choice. you can have a PC ranging from a fancy typewriter to something thatd around console levels to something that has a GPU that has more raw processing power than the PS3 and 360 combined.....X2. its your choice.

Exactly. That $635 PC I posted (which is probably cheaper now) was the same price as a launch PS3 (including tax) and will play Crysis at 30 FPS, high settings with 4x antialiasing, at 1680x1050 resolution. I'd like to see a 360 do that.

Better is always going to be a subjective term in this instance. It's gonna come down to the end-user.

I, however, love PC gaming, and couldn't game without it.

Buy a 52inch plasma TV, better yet a HD Projector and get 7.1 surround sound.

lucfonzy
Please help me understand a contradiction: why is it whenever we say we prefer to game on a couch with a gamepad, it's always "oh, you can do that with PC too", yet whenever it's time for the cost argument, all of a sudden the good TV and sound system is supposedly a massive financial burden. Either you'd like to game on a home theater, in which case you need that equipment regardless of whether you game on PC or console, or you don't really think it's worth it, in which case a monitor and a pair of speakers will work just fine with either platform as well. The benefits and associated costs apply either to both platforms or to none.

It would be one thing if PC gaming was treated as an equal by developers but it clearly isn't. Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire aren't coming out on pc this year, maybe they will next year, maybe they won't. Maybe it will be like GTAIV and have all sorts of bugs that take a few months to fix. Maybe it won't.

If you like playing the maybe game with developers then by all means stick with pc. I prefer getting the console version on day 1 knowing that my console is what the developers designed the game around.

I'll buy a pc exclusive if it interests me but these days it is rare when so many pc exclusives are either MMO or RTS.

Glad someone atleast TRIED to give PC gaming a shot. :P Now go play Stalker - Shadow Of Chernobyl using the L.U.R.K mod. :) I recommend 1.05. Version 1.1 sucks really bad.

WhenCicadasCry

YES.

Along with Crysis, SoC was the first game I got with my new PC last week. It's absolutely fantastic, definitely one of the best games I've played so far. A greater introduction to PC gaming was hardly possible, really. Even Crysis seems mediocre in comparison. I even wrote my latest blog about it.

I'm about halfway now, so I'll play it again with that mod sometime after I finish it.

Never left the pc.. i am playing some indie rpgs though right now. Avernum 4 and Eschalon 2... really putting my 9800gt and core2duo to good use...lol... These 2 indie rpgs are great pc games...but sys wars would shun them due to the old school gfx... in the mainstream pc world, I can't wait for Civ5 and where's my Thief 4, Homm6, Witcher 2, Gothic 4 and Gal Civ3? Damn it!

lol well thats a pretyt good reason but you could always upgrade it for next to nothing if you can find some deals. i mean, i admit, im thoroughly suprised...

Thats not a good reason... an 8800gt can play any pc game out right now. at max or near max settings at up to 1920x1200... its a bs reason.. I was using a 8800gts 640mb before it fried and I got myself a 9800gt replacement... It worked like a charm on every game! Even Crysis at high settings.

It does work in favor of consoles when it comes to new releases from major developers.

Being pc-only means missing out on a lot of big releases. Even the new Ron Gilbert game is PS3/360 only. Being a pc elitist these days is a joke.

That goes for ANY gaming platform base on your statement. Fanboyism in any way is a joke. It has nothing to do with being specifically a "pc elitist".

Everything you just said is base on subjectivity and one point of view. What you find as "better" someone can easily claim is not. It falls in the category of personal preference.

When it comes to new releases from major developers the pc version is more likely to be skipped or delayed. That isn't a subjective statement. As I said the pc is not treated equally by major developers and I think that is pretty obvious.

For every PC elitist there's a console elitist who knows absolutely nothing about PC gaming.

your view is not valid, if you talk about the future everything seems to go in the way to browser gaming or games that get processed by servers. I dont see such a big problem with DRM.

Excuse me? The fact that I want to own something I paid +$30 is not a valid POV? That I don't want to risk the games I paid hard money for to be unplayable one day because they shut down their verification server? Or that I might want to sell some of those games one day (or at least give them to a friend)? DRM reduces purchases to little more than a long term rental.

But most of us know you as a loud-mouthed PC hater, so meh, why bother thinking your opinion matters?

People will always think someone is a hater if they dont confirm to the views and opinions of the majority around them. I have a gaming pc and ejoy the games I play on it, I dont care if people hate my opinions here, chances are I hate theres as well.

[QUOTE="Birdy09"] But there are cracks so.... whats the really big issue? a few more minutes of effort and you never have to deal with DRM again.

Running code from a cracking group is like accepting a syringe from a stranger and sticking it into your neck. You have no way of knowing what's actually coded into their crack; they could be helping themselves to your game keys/Steam account & password or even installing a keylogger. If they're willing to help pirates rip off developers, what makes you think they'll have any qualms about ripping you off?

I dont know, I'l just continue to ignore "Virus/Hacker Fearmongering" and continue to do it for yet another 10-20 years without ever being a victim of anything. seems best. You realize these "Pirates" as you call them are just coding enthusiasts right? hidden agenda or not. No suprize from you though, as usual ;) finding a negative out of something thats good.

So a sequal or successor to a console game is not on PC? SHOCKER! "Major Developers" you mean those published by Microsoft and Sony.... mainly Microsoft in this case... whoa ... such a giant list of games my heart bleeds.... *goes back to playing Heroes of Newerth, a game better than 90% of console major releases, and hasnt been reviewed y GS, or retail in stores* I guess only "major" games exist and are great.... haha i wish i was that ignorant, must be nice.Birdy09
L.A. Noire isn't a sequel and both it and RDR aren't published by MS or Sony. Most Square Enix and Namco games skip the pc as well.

Oh Hi dc337, coincidently posting at a similar time to Lowe0 :) , I like pointing that out wether I'm correct or not :D RDR's predecessor was still console only right? only its Rockstart, so regardless PC Gamers will eventually be able to play it. but I guess I forget that mainstream games and mainstream gaming is only valid apon release... i guess these games are just that good that they have no value later? hmmm. And yea, most Sqaure Games dont, but then again quite a few do, I mean, thier real upcoming money maker Final Fantasy XIV isnt coming to PC I guess? MMO you say? well at least its better than that FFXIII average game by a long shot =). That and thier wildly better version of Last Remnant, not much of a good game, but nothing Sqaure has done recently has been outstanding, infact this gen ... so .... are they "Major" at the moment? I thought Bioware was the new fad RPGs? you know... those ones that are born and bred on PC?

Glad someone atleast TRIED to give PC gaming a shot. :P Now go play Stalker - Shadow Of Chernobyl using the L.U.R.K mod. :) I recommend 1.05. Version 1.1 sucks really bad.

DraugenCP

Ew, you're playing Stalker unmodded. :P With the Lurk mod it propels Shadow Of Chernoybl to a gaming masterpiece.

A healthy sense of cynicism never hurt anyone.

Not really, no, but thanks for playing. I don't have an alt, although I think I've been accused of being just about every other non-PC gamer on this forum at one point or another. I should be getting dogtags for it, Battlefield-style.

What are you implying here, that I am posting as two people? Unlike you I can be honest about the state of a platform and not wrap my identity in it. Only fanboys go to great lengths like making multiple accounts to defend their platform. I'll play on the platform that has the games, and recently that isn't the pc.

I said most of their games don't come to the pc, and of course their MMO will. Make all the defenses you want but the pc is missing out on some pretty big releases this year. As Avid-Gamer said most of the best pc releases these days are console ports, but maybe I'm posting as Avid-Gamer as well.

I don 't understand on why PC gaming is so great. You always have to spend more money just to upgrade your components. NerubianWeaver

Here's a 3 yearold 8800GT running Crysis

In your opinion, the best PC releases are console ports. Your opinion, however, does not change the fact that the PC still has the most highly rated titles; even ignoring the fact that the vast majority of PC titles never get reviewed by websites like this. You may say that you don't like what the PC has to offer, but to claim that it "does not have the games" is false.

1) I just find it hilarious that you 2 are always in the same threads posting negativities solely on PC Gaming, to the point where its a funny coincidence, oh and, as Vandal has said, someone is in denial, its not us. Its you. Once again, the database doesnt lie. and the fact that alot of great games are not reviewed aswell (see my xfire tag of the game played this week for example).

2) Consoles are missing out on many Good, Great, Superb games aswell, but, isnt what your doing defending? Your idea of the "best" and mine are very different, RDR is just another blockbuster title that will be shelved, and apperenlty its not worth playing in a few months time? I guess I can claim that the state of Console Gaming, Mainstream " major  " gaming is so unhealthy to the point where your games cant keep your attention for longer than a day or 2 so badly, that you need the next hyped marketing fix to keep you going? Heroes of Newerth - 300 Hours, £15, more tournements than 90% of console games, probably a good 1000 more hours in it. No reviews. but oh noes, im missing out on . oh wait, I have all consoles! :o

AND cheaper.

slvrraven9

Darn right it is cheaper. I just bought Mass Effect (awesome game and already beat it) off Steam last Saturday for $5. Best $5 I ever spent on a game. I can't wait to play Mass Effect 2.

Birdy09

When did having something new to play become a bad thing? I really have no interest in sinking 300 hours into a game - to be honest, I'm ready to move on after 10, and there's always something else for me to play at that point.

Birdy09

If you're accusing me of something, then spit it out. Otherwise, I assume that I've heard the last of this nonsense?
