They could, but there's no guarantee that they will. Why should we be hassled at all with something that has never managed to do what it was supposed to? (DRM does NOT stop piracy!)
I didn't say DRM was a good thing. By principle, I think it is an insult to the average consumer. But at the same time, the nuisance of DRM is greatly exaggerated, and you can still resell stuff.
